Learning with the FT5DR, not quite to same steps. I’ll need to learn a little more about my radio, and where the different menus are located. Thanks for the overview

Hi Joe, thank you for watching these videos. I guess it’s time for me to buy another radio or two. Had a new Ham come to the club meeting last night with the new FTM-500, Now that’s a sweet radio and sounds awesome! I even used my FT3D with the Speaker-Mic/Camera and sent it a picture … looked real good on that screen! I wish I had the radio so I could make a video for you. 73, Ken

Thank you. Yes I will continue to focus on the Yaesu System Fusion. How do you like your FTM-300DR? I love mine. Just take digital one step at a time and you'll be OK. Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss the next one! 73 "The Fusion Elmer Guy"

@@thefusionelmerguy2234 I almost got the 100DR to get into the digital but I'm glad I waited and they came out with the 300DR. I really like this radio although I have lots to learn about it. Definitely got subscribed. I haven't seen any other channels that take the time to walk through the steps so pretty much anyone can understand. I need to watch your other videos because I'm confused what the difference is between wires-x and fusion.

I’m sorry that it has taken so long to answer you, but I just found a bunch of these comments that I had missed. To answer your question, FUSION is the ability to have both FM (Analog) and C4FM (Digital) work together in the same Radio/Repeater, this is made possible with the Yaesu’s Automatic Mode Select (AMS). Wires-X on the other hand is a VOIP protocol used by Yaesu to link repeaters to repeaters and to individual Ham Radios. A Wires-X node is much like EchoLink or IRLP nodes. Wires-X does NOT come with each Yaesu repeater sold. The repeater group that buys the repeater will decide whether or not to purchase a Wires-X node (HRI-200) and how it will be integrated into their system. So, just because you have a Yaesu FUSION Repeater in your area, it does not mean that there is Wires-X on it. Also, if there is a Wires-X node on the repeater, it could be using a different DG-ID than the one that you use to talk on. You have a separate Wires-X Menu in your radio for setting up Wires-X DG-ID’s and other related things. Hope that this helps. 73, Ken

@@thefusionelmerguy2234 thanks but have not been able to find even the most basic procedures. Again, I am somewhat confused having done a little with DMR. How do I get to a room or person? Just enter the number? When done with chat, do you have to “disconnect” like with DMR. I wave watched lots of excellent videos but have to admit this most basic thing never covered. Video with a qso from start to finish?

I still haven't been able to connect to fusion and pretty much hate the FT-5 except for the aprs. Im sorry my frustrations are coming out on your comments, but Why would they make finding the repeaters such a pain in the ass to figure out, then add another level of confusion by not having the repeaters do the same functions that you also have no idea what they are. Also why wouldn't the gps function do all that for me? Also if I want to pick what room I would like to enter, NOPE cant do that. So far, I cant stand fusion also cause I cant even get into it. What's amazing is that this radio was so promoted as a radio to get on digital in minutes. LOL Ive owned it for a month and haven't been able to pick a room, the time it goes on the shelf is getting longer and longer.

Yaesu digital is like 1 1/4 meters. Some areas have more activity then others that have none. Where I am ,there is ONE repeater that is still in AMS mode (up on a mountain at 9,000 feet ) and only a handful of people who have radios to use it. I have a FT70DR and FTM7250 that program easily from the key board. I found a wires x repeater while driving thru Tucson, Phoenix, LA and a linked group around KC and had no problem join the group. There are 3 of us using it as UHF simplex and it is amazing the range a HT has from INSIDE a house. Where are you located?

Where did you come up with this frequency? My Google searches have come up with various frequencies being used throughout the US.
@thefusionelmerguy22342 жыл бұрын
This is a frequency that had been suggested by John Kruk at Yaesu. They did some research and found that this would have the least adverse affect. Nothing is 100%, there has to be some give and take. Remember that the "Band Plans" are set up to follow how the bands are commonly being used by the Hams. Agencies DO NOT ACT, THEY RE-ACT! They will not give you something if they don't see a need! STANDARD ARE SET BY YOU, agencies just make it official! Hope that this is helpful. 73 de KA6SUB "The Fusion Elmer Guy"

Be sure and check the SQ setting in FM mode. If SQ is open (0) - no XMIT.
@thefusionelmerguy2234 Жыл бұрын
Why are you going to FM to check the C4FM squelch setting? When you open the squelch, whether in FM or C4FM, the busy light comes on. That is all you need to know! Save yourself the extra work and set the Squelch in the C4FM mode by watching the Busy Light. Set the squelch so the Busy light is either flashing or the first step that the light is is fully off. It is true, while in the GM mode, the radio will send out a beacon only when the frequency is not busy (Busy Light is OFF or Flashing). Remember that even if the squelch may be open (Busy) you can still press the PTT and talk! Thank you for your comment, 73, Ken KA6SUB

I enjoyed your review and setup of C4FM. Recently I purchased a Yaesu FT70DR which is my first radio with Wires X capabilities. Using the radio manual is quite a feat, I am able to depress the ‘F’ key and then ‘AMS’ and connect to the gateway of WiresX but I’m not really understanding the writeup in the FT70 manual to advance any further, Will you consider going through ALL the steps necessary to setup WiresX on the FT70DR in an upcoming video. Apparently I need need to register with Yaesu and provide my HT ID, how do I determine that info? Thanks for you time KB5WRL

Wouldn't it make sense to have a Yaesu-specific call frequency be a frequency that can be accessed without reconfiguration of automatic step intervals on Yaesu radios?
@thefusionelmerguy2234 Жыл бұрын
ExtremeSquared, I think in all fairness you should ask John at Yaesu this question, all I can do is give you my opinion based on what they had put out at the time they came up with it. In my opinion based on the videos from Yaesu, they were looking for a frequency that would fit into most band plans using the best hamming practices. Thank you for the question.
