I bought my 2002 Z06 brand new back in 2001, about a week before the Trade Center came down. (I walked out of the WTC about 20 minutes before the first plane hit, but that's a story for another day). I now have 164,000 miles on the car and just had a new clutch, half shafts, differential, rear brake lines and a few other goodies installed. I LOVE this car. I still get compliments, comments and waves. C5 Corvettes rock the house!

Mine is a '02 Corvette C5 convertible one owner me. When they built that car they use some of the old and some of the new and put it together that's why it's special. And it's the best money for your buy.

I haven’t owned mine for 10 years. I got my 2004 Corvette in 2021. The previous owner had it for 12 years. Took great care of it (had to sell it for health reasons) he cried the day I left with the car. Almost 3 years later, I totally understand. I’m only 41 years old - I’m never selling it.

I special ordered my black on black 2001 C5 in 2000. It has been my only car the past 23 years! (looks just like yours). I owned lots of new Corvette's between 1972 and 1985 (only Corvettes during that period), but when I saw the C5 the first time I could not believe it. I had to have one and once I bought it, I knew I would never sell it. Still looks and runs better than the day I bought it. Fortunately, I work from home and rarely drive during the daytime and never in bad weather - so just turned 80,000 miles. People still ask me if it is the "new" Corvette when I park. I spend more time detailing it than driving it! With all the mods I have done over the years, I have to say the most enjoyable upgrade was the custom VetteEssentials interior - best money I ever spent - wish they were still around.

Got my C5 in June, earlier this year, and absolutely love it. It's a 2001 convertible with the 6-speed manual transmission, has almost every option that was available from factory, and a street-legal stainless steel racing exhaust to top it all off. It's loud, but my God, the sound it makes on throttle is something else. Had the clutch and throw-out bearing replaced this week as the latter was leaking, and some other, likely 20-year-old parts that were starting to show their age, so it should be good for another twenty years now.

No I enjoy the C4 because the seats hold me in place for more aggressive driving and being down on hp there are few surprises. The C6 (2006 Manual) has plenty of power for the street plus the magnetic ride provides a great ride and handling. Moving to a C7 would not increase the fun factor that much.

Bought my 2004 Auto Coupe on 9/26/2003. 144,000 miles later, I am still in love with it. It still turns heads, even though the only 'modification' has been window tint. And for a 20 year old car, that has been somewhat of a 'daily driver', repairs and maintenance has been very minimal. I am dreading it, but I know the 4L60 is a time bomb at this point, but I'll cross the bridge when it blows. 🙂 (literally)

Excellent video. You covered everything. In April I bought my first corvette, a 1999 FRC. Only 1,040 in pewter metallic. Not the rarest color but still low number production wise. Only had 18k miles on it ; garage kept , 100% bone stock exactly what I wanted. I don’t plan on modifying the car. Love the gauge cluster, seating position. The stock seats on the FRC are even worse than the sport seat. But I overlook them since I’m not tracking it. Love the pop-up headlights, best looking corvette, sleek and exterior lines that is unparalleled. Love the 6 speed manual, super smooth. Z51 suspension is great. The last owner only drove about 800 miles in 6 1/2 years, which is never a good thing. The tensioner pulley had a slight squeal so I Brought it the shop and he replaced the tensioner pulley, other pulleys and both serpentine/AC belts. Also installed LED headlight bulbs, by LASFIT. Drastic improvement in lighting. Original Halogen bulbs were so outdated I don’t ever plan on selling it. At 59 years young I’ll be keeping it forever. CTEK charger for winter storage and I’m set

After multiple track days, canyon runs, adventures and just everyday drives to work, this is the best car I've ever owned. My dad bought a 911 in 1996, and it is definitely a fun car. It's a car that rewards those who know how to drive. But, like you said, the price of admission is way higher. My brother and I inherited it now, but it is in a different state. I see myself taking it for a while, but the issue is maintenance. To change oil for example, you need special tools, and impossibly small hands. Or take to some dealer in a major city? Corvette seems an easier sports car choice for me, regardless of the sentimental value.

I absolutely love a performance modified C5. I've had my '99 mn6 coupe since new. Now I'm 48 years old and its been through a few stages of modifications. Forged pistons, rods, crank, WCCH ported heads, 2 different cams, 3.90 and 4.10 gears, Centerforce clutch, Fidanza lightweight flywheel, Kooks LTs, Novi 1500, suspension and tire upgrades etc. Worth every penny over 25 years of ownership. And in the grand scheme of things I've saved money in comparison to those flipping their fun toys every few years. I've also had two other C5's along the way. Another coupe and an FRC. Treat the car right with maintenance, upgrade whatever needs replacing. They are a blast and great for longterm ownership.

I had a yellow 2001 model bought used in 2005 with very low miles. Had it 4.5 years and put very low miles on it myself. It was in the shop 4 times for electrical component problems and the rear suspension had parts, similar to tie rods, that were worn causing a weird sway feeling that also made the rear tires have odd wear. Although a great looking car and fun to drive I sold it. Would love to have a C6 ZO6.

The base 996 911 from that era used to be had for around 20k a few years ago. Prices have gone up. Drawback of those is maintenance costs and the IMS bearing fix in the 996.2. Having had one of those once. even though it was a fun car, I'd go with the C5.

Im in the market for a used corvette. I took out a '98 C5 last weekend, and it was a visceral experience. The engine, no matter how hard I pushed, kept wanting to go faster. I pushed hard on corners, and it responded very nicely. Brakes were great, unlike my last hot hatch. 6 speed manual of course. However, big minus, the seat slid forward one inch at hard brake, and then hard accel. I guess theres a kit that fixes it, but I got a bad gut feeling about this particular corvette being problems before buying. Still searching.

Everything you say about the C5 is spot on for me. I've had mine 3 1/2 years now. But I do have an important question for you. 1st- is your T-56 trans stock or modified? 2nd- if stock have you ever had any issues getting into gear or feel the shift going in hard? I replace the clutch fluid at every oil change so that is fresh. I have approximately 127,000 miles on her now and no transmission work that I know of by the previous, original owner from the repair paper work that I have. Most of the time the trans does just fine but I know that you live in Minnesota and I am in Portland Oregon where it gets cold and rains a lot and notice my issue is more of in cold weather but not always as sometimes in 60-70 degree weather. Mine is a daily driver and no garage to keep her in at night. Although a daily driver by now you know that I am very adament about keeping it in as new condition with preventive maintenance and following the maintenance guide. Kept pristinly clean, cermic coated / waxed at least once a month or as needed. Upgrades to better parts when replacing parts such as brakes and shocks etc. Back to the transmission any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance of any help that you may give.

Warm helps. What year C5? Earlier ones should use Dex Merc in the tranny vs the newest dextron. Try the antivenom mod to loosen things up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3S7ZpqOotSghc0

@@Toys4Life My Vette is a 2000 w/ Z51 package. I've been using DOT 3 brake fluid in the clutch as that is what was recommended. Here's what happened this morning. 1) started the car. 2) clutch in to shift into 1st gear. 3) everything felt fine. 4) got rolling and as I shifted into 2nd gear the clutch pedal went all the way to the floor before engaging. 5) finally got into 2nd. 6) shift to 3rd not so easy, pedal to the floor. 7) got to the gym and could not get into reverse. Took some time and pushing clutch in and out several times, finally reverse. 8) leaving the gym the clutch pedal still very close to the floor but able to shift and drive. 9) by time I got to work it is more normal now but still not as it had been with it engaging by time half way pushed in clutch pedal. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.

I have a NB1 Miata that I've had for 8 years now and a E46 M3 for 11 years. I'm considering getting a C5 Z06 to add to my collection of forever cars, but the additional costs of insurance and ownership, and the lack of space is weighing that down lol. The 996 911 shown at the end is not as fun to drive as you may believe. You'll need to jump into a GT3 to get more of that raw sports car feel, but we've missed that opportunity... a 996 GT3 is $100k and a 997.2 GT3 is a lot more than that nowadays. I don't see any value in that.

Hey, a question about headers. I know they obviously bolt to the engine block, but are there flanges where they bolt to the exhaust pipes or do they need to be arc welded? I don’t have a welder.
@Toys4Life
@Toys4Life 4 ай бұрын
All long tube headers will not bolt up to your factory mid pipe. You would need to modify it or buy the header companie. Many shorty headers Will bolt up to your exhaust, but it is generally agreed they offer minimal gains.
