Very cool part, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other goodies 3D printing holds in the future. My brother actually 3D printed some mesh covers for those side vents and the brake cooling ducts in the front bumper for me, they look great. I don't think I'd do this mod on my daily driver, but I was thinking that after it's installed, it seems like it would be easy enough to have a spare set of inner fender liners that didn't have the holes cut into them, so you could block it off for daily driving, then just remove a few screws and install the modified one for track days.

Thanks for another great vid, Chris. I'm disappointed to learn the stock configuration is just for show, and I'm also disappointed I hadn't noticed this all the times I've had the wheels off. Anyhoo, what I want to know is this: I see this video was done BEFORE you removed the BSM. 1)Did you notice any difference in road/wind noise after installing the ducts with the BSM still on? 2) Does the added down force and increased airflow with the ducts mean that installing the ducts AND removing the BSM is a wash? 3)Now that the car has both mods do you think the wind noise and/or aerodynamics are better or worse? I like this mod and I really like the aesthetics of removing the BSM but I'm worried about wind noise and aerodynamics. Maybe doing both mods is the way to address this.

@unclebans23 жыл бұрын
Actually if you remove that block of plastic piece you get hot air from the engine bay out the sides. Most track cars remove them. If it's a street car, only remove the driver side or water might destroy your ECU. They're blocked of so water don't get in contact with the computer in rain or car wash. There is some guy who measured the air pressure in the wheel well and found no significant high pressure zones there so letting out air from the wheel well doesn't do much for a street car.
@napoleoncampos67703 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you. His statement that the vents are not functional is not true. They function as heat extractors, although the route to the engine bay is not exactly direct, as you mentioned to protect some of the components. Blocking off the engine venting, and adding wheel well venting, does not add much, if anything, in terms of performance.

Cool item but over time you will get cast off from the tires, especially if you do a lot of high speed highway driving or in the rain. Screens are an easy fix for the first issue. Nothing can be done about the second but no one drives Vettes in the rain, right.
@richknudsen57813 жыл бұрын
Kinda pricey but Chris thinks we C5 owners are mostly cheapskates but you never know.
@richarddobreny66643 жыл бұрын
I Don’t quite get it, it looks like you are extracting air from the wheel wells and not from under the hood. If that duct lined up with the exhaust manifolds, then I can see it extracting hot air from under the hood. Scrapping that cover piece looks to be all you needed to do? I always thought they were functional on all the corvettes. They were touted as functional way back to the Trans Ams. Maybe I’m missing something
@mycorvettelife3 жыл бұрын
They are not functional at all in stock form. The battery box completely blocks it from the engine compartment on the passenger side, plus that blank plate. The purpose is to reduce air pressure in the wheel wells and reduce drag, thus creating downforce. This principle can be seen in action on most modern GT race cars.
