C5Z06 - LS6 valve spring job

The LS6 had a bad series of valve springs in 02-03 and it's a good idea to change them regularly if you are racing. This video will show you how to replace your valve springs (and valve seals while you are at it, it can also be a good idea to put new spark plugs while you are in there).

How many psi to hold the valve springs up?

60psi worked for me

Would it be possible to use those valve keeper tool that you smack it with a hammer? Or there's some reason prohibit it's usage, just seems to be a very time consuming job to install the spring compressor for every cylinder.

Great video! I'm tackling this tomorrow and my question is, is the retainer clip a one piece or are there two per valve to hold it? Trying to determine how many to order since there so cheap.

I just wish there wasn't youtube know it alls that sit in mommas basement and whine about anything and everything to try and sound important. Thanks for the in depth vid frog. No one else explained in detail the compressor set up needed to hold the valves. Picking up a Z Wednesday and this is the first mod.

Hello why did you remove the compressor hose when you had only swapped 2 valve springs ?

Because the hose only keeps pressure in one cylinder (the one you are working on). Once you are done, you have to move your hose to the spark plug hole of the next cylinder so that it keeps your valves up when you do the next cylinder.

does that valve holder keep the valves from falling into the motor ?

+Julian Simental No, that spring compressor (what you called a "valve holder") just compresses the spring. He didn't show the part where he plugs in an air compressor so the cylinder is pressurized so the valve wont drop in.

JDMricist what can you do if a valve drops in? Magnet?

If you can still grab it with a magnet you'll be lucky otherwise you'll have to pull the whole head off

I dropped a valve and was able to rotate the engine until I saw the valve pop back up. Watch the video on my channel of my struggles so you don't follow them lol. I have no air compressor either.
