C6 Corvette Headlight Lens Replacement Guide (EASY!) - Base, Z06, Grand Sport - RLSebring

In this video, we go over how to replace the headlight lens (lenses) in your C6 Corvette whether it be a base, Z06, Grand Sport, Convertible, Z51 (Z-51) etc. This is a great DIY, and can be done with basic hand tools in your home and garage.
These cars have a very common problem with the factory lenses cracking, crazing, discoloring and hazing. The only long term fix is to replace the lens on the headlight assembly with a new plastic lens.

Hopefully this is helpful information for C6 owners. Replacement assemblies can be anywhere from $400 to $1000 depending on condition, and aftermarket housings are even more! This is a DIY way to clean up your car in a BIG way.

Thanks for this! Really helped. One thing I would like to add. After removing the lens, what saved me hours of work is that I scraped about 2" of the old polyurethane adhesive out of the lens channel and then poured about 1-2 ounces of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol just above the adhesive (make sure the lens housing is level) and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. It loosened the bonds at the base of the adhesive enough that I could pull the adhesive in one continuous piece. You just want to make sure to use even pressure and pull forward at a 45 degree angle. If you let the Iso alcohol sit for too long, the adhesive can get really slimy and loosen the bonds too much that it will break in sections. Also, you want to keep a dam of Iso alcahol in front of the area you are pulling and don't let it run dry as it evaporates very quickly. Hope this helps others.

So glad to see this. I just got a C6Z yesterday and the only thing that the seller wasnt correct on was the condition of the headlights. I almost didnt buy the car because of it because i hqte the way they look when theyre hazy. I thought the only option was new assembly or the C7/C8 style lights which im not a fan of and theyre very expensive. The stock headlights are the best looking ones imo so im glad I found this

This video was super helpful! I just finished doing my own after one of my lenses got a giant crack in it. One thing I noticed, when you initially bake the assembly to loosen the seal, I found ~300⁰ works fine so as to not melt the plastic pieces. Also making sure no plastic pieces are touching the metal parts of the oven helped mitigate melting problems. All in all, great video, thanks for posting!

Dude that looks killer! A little labor for a fraction of the cost of a replacement. I might have been cool to see you try to polish and “restore” one vs replacing the lense. Nice work as usual!

That doesn't work with these lenses. There are literal cracks that go all the way through the lenses. When it happens they aren't salvageable. Most other headlight assemblies you can restore, which I've done many times. It's too bad these are different.

@@Greenlightfilming; you are correct. When these units “craze” they don’t just get cataracts. They crack straight thru making them unfixable. Anyone who thinks this is an easy or quick job is in for a rude awakening. Its a tough, job and you better have a lot of patience

When you put the headlight with butyl tape in the oven at 200, did you turn the oven off after it hit 200 prior to putting the headlight in?

At the 5:35 mark, what'd you use to turn the 9mm nut while holding the stud with the e4 socket? I don't think I'm going to be able to get a 9mm wrench in there to turn

great question, im wondering the same, buying the lenses on ebay with new gaskets, all you really need is the butyl tape then go to work...looks to be 9mm and 9mm is the common size to buy one ebay, what size mm did you end up working with?

I had Chevy dealer replace lenses on my C6 Corvette and in less than one year the clear coat is already peeling off big time. They say it's still under warranty they say they're going to repaint the clear coat on them. I don't know if that's going to work. What a mess. What should I do?

If their replacement parts have failed, I'd consider looking into the RLSebring kit like I showed here. Give them another chance if you'd like, but they shouldn't be painting clear coat on the lenses. There's a UV coating that's on them. Not paint clear coat.

Why go thru all of that hassle for the stock headlights when IMO THEY ARE not very good looking and the amount of light they throw is sub par at best. I’m sure with better HID or LED bulbs they will be improved but again why not just replace with the awesome, and much better looking Morimoto XB’S?? I AM ALL LED on my 2011 GS Convertible manual 6 speed except for the front headlights. Rears are Morimoto’s. Side marker are all LED. Interior LED kit is on the way. And license plate lights and backup lights are all LED. The front are a PITA from what I can see and hear. Whole front end/bumper has to come off and then there are a ton of Torx #15 screws and clips to remove all the while you are not scratching your paint!

Morimoto shit is over priced as hell, and make the car look ricer to me. I love the clean look of the stock lights. I have VetteLights line LED side markers and Eagle Eyes smoked tail lights and I replaced my lens and painted my housing matte black (on red corvette) and upgraded fogs and Hid's to VetteLights and it's WAY nicer and lights are bright as hell. The light output and light spead from my friends morimoto headlights aren't as good as the upgraded Hid's and fogs I got from VetteLights.

They have a led projector kit conversion. Only reason I'm watching this video. I like the looks of the headlights especially because they are paint to matched but they need to be modernized and need better light output. If you want a paint to matched morimoto you may be spending 2k

I prefer the stock c6 color matched headlights. The c7 look alikes seem out of place on these IMO. Was happy I went this route.
