The SID chip only had three audio channels, but they should have been enough to play both the music and the sound effects, so I don't understand why there's no in-game music in this port.

There is in-game music but it's been switched off. Check the title screen a few seconds into this video.

OMG! It is the same music! I've never noticed that! Even the arcade version has this music. It plays whenever you manage to spell EXTRA to get an extra life.
