Thanks for coming onboard. The channel format has evolved over the 3 years and has finally settled to what has been delivered in recent months, that is 1. regular (near) monthly C64 round up; and 2. show cases of new or upcoming C64 games, all topped off with the popular vote for C64 game of the year.

Some amazing work done for the C64 ... unbelievable that some of this is possible. Considering the quality of releases recently, im sure the Alien port can also be easily modified to run on a stock C64. Never thought i would be interested in the C64 again.
@RetroGamerNation4 жыл бұрын
Eric originally targeted the Aliens project on a stock C64 before suspending work on it. I think he has a particular vision for how the game should look/run on the C64 and won't compromise with a half effort.

Great presentation RGN. Very much appreciate your reflection and transparency on Zeta Wing. Some amazing games in development. Empire Strikes Back and Pig Quest look outstanding, but also looking forward to Soul Force and Parallaxian. Any coverage you can provide on the latter two titles will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@RetroGamerNation4 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that Parallaxian is on hold due to personal issues (hope all is ok with Jon). I can’t reveal too much on Soul Force other than it is indeed wonderful and in retrospect it was the reason why my enthusiasm for Zeta Wings was originally understated.

@@RetroGamerNation First of all, thanks for the kind wishes; I was ill for several months but in recent weeks have been able to return to coding, with some work done for my good friend John Henderson's C64 game, The Wild Wood, and there should be a video + detailed blog article on my website about that in the coming days. Hi, thanks for the feedback. The bezel is just one single PNG with the screen section being transparent. I originally sourced the bezel from retroarch/libetro forum (I think) and made some adjustments to make it suit my needs. Then its simply a matter of having the overlay sit on top of my captured game footage when using Final Cut Pro on Mac OS.

I wonder why people are giving a developer grief about developing for an accelerated C64. I hope it was more along the lines of being a little disappointed as opposed to being verbally aggressive and toxic. I only have original hardware so the Alien game wouldn't be for me but it's not like he owes anyone anything.

yea.. I agree but at the same time.. when you start modding hardware like that it's not really a C64 to me anymore
@Frisenette4 жыл бұрын
@@philosoaper the NES, Megadrive, Atari’s and Amiga is allowed various expansions and chips. Why not the C64‽ The absolutely crucial point is that it should be something that is historically correct and plausible. IE. Not something from an imagined past, or some weird concoction released years after the production end of the C64. The REU with its DMA chip is a good very underutilized example. Another is one of the 2 or 4 Megahertz expansions that was released commercially in the main period of the C64. The Super CPU does not qualify as it was released years after any serious commercial activity on the platform, and relies on hardware that would not have been commercially sustainable or even available in the 80s. These types of expansions are available to anyone today. Either through Ultimate style cartridges. Or if all else fails through emulation.

@@philosoaper C64 didn’t and doesn’t exist in a vacuum. And why exactly don’t you think smallish expansions or alterations to hardware should exist? It’s something that’s been going since the early days of the 2600 and on from there.

It's a shame we don't see this kind of community and quality on the Amiga as that would be another great platform for this kind of stuff and would be great to see how far developers could push it but to be fair, making games on the Amiga compared to the C64 would use up a lot more time being that it's more capable so it's understandable why the results on newer games on the Amiga are not as impressive as we see on the C64, still it's a shame because the Amiga just like the C64 has a great communty behind it.
@RetroGamerNation4 жыл бұрын
I was hoping to cover the Amiga this year as a regular feature but I am a little disappointed with what we have seen for the Amiga in 2020. Besides Tiny Little Slug we have just seen ports and non-commercial grade releases. As a result, I've dropped Amiga coverage unfortunately

how do you accelerate the c64?
@RetroGamerNation4 жыл бұрын
A C64 itself cannot be accelerated. The U64 has added firmware to increase the CPU speed, the Turbo Chameleon is effectively also a FPGA replacement and allows you to increase the CPU, the SuperCPU is again an addon that effectively adds hardware and extra grunt but is very pricey. If you don't have any of these then you will just be left with using the SuperCPU version of WinVice.
