C7 Corvette Interior Sound Deadening Material Install

This video shows how to install interior sound deadening material MAT 66 in a C7 Corvette. The video shows seat and carpet removal in order to install the sound dampening material. The video also shows the installation of sound dampening material.

Great step by step video! I did this with my 1992 Acura NSX when I restored the interior.... I used a similar but different name brand material called Dynamat... I used a roller also.. saving this for my future C7 Stingray purchase !

I did this to my 2017 Grand Sport. I did the floor below the seats, the sides up to the console and the rear hatch area. It made a huge difference. I think it took me 3 afternoons, as I took my time and did not want to rush and start breaking trim pieces. I used the Dynamat. FYI, the Noico is a little easier to install and there is no aluminum to cut you fingers.

Well for about the last week I have been working an hour or two at a time sound proofing my 2017 convertible. I have spent about $100 on materials which include; Siless Black 80 mil 36 sqft Sound Deadening mat | Sound Deadener Mat | Car Sound Dampening Material | Sound dampener | Sound deadening Material Sound Insulation | Car Sound deadening Noico RED 315 mil 20 sqft Сar Sound Insulation, Heat and Cool Liner, Self-Adhesive Closed Cell Deadening Material (PE Foam Sound Deadener) . My thoughts are the 80 mil is pretty great and easy to apply and following up on the thicker than most use on the 315 mil foam as the second layer. My intention right now is to use the 80 mil and the 315 mil foam on the cab portion and in the trunk only use the 80 mil. Actually both are pretty easy so far, but it is taking a lot of time, and at 56 years old I just work on it a short time and take a break. Its winter time here in Indiana and I am not driving it, so there isn't a big rush. But my brothers, if you do this yourself, I think it will take between 10 - 20 hours of labor. Ken

8:55 T27 is super-rare. Those screws are T30 Torx. It’s a common mistake to make. If you use Torx bits that are undersized, you will eventually damage the fastener.

Hey there, thanks a bunch for the video! It really helps to understand how the seats and floor carpet come out. I noticed the foot rest on the passenger's side was not covered -- is there something preventing that piece to be covered, or just not a good idea?

5:43 This all-metric car uses a 10mm screw on the seat belt attachment, not 1/4”.

Thanks a ton! I might tackle mine this weekend now! Mine is a convertible as well. Do you notice a difference with the road noise? I am using noico 80 mil and noico rollers

Yes, I did notice a difference. The big difference was around the console/shifter area with heat and sound. I guess some people may not notice but I notice everything in my car. GM did do a good job on the installation under the carpet. The sound dampening just made it better. I apply sound dampening material on my 1969 Corvette also and the roller broke when applying the material but the Noico Roller is much better. I did put two layers of material around the console area.

@@TheWhatisright I just wrapped up my install, your video was extremely helpful! Thanks a ton! The car feels very nice and quiet after the install. I was getting an intermittent airbag light after the install; my passenger side seat connector wasnt locking fully so I did the zip-tie fix and all is good now! Thanks again!

CorvetteHop, I have 2017 Z51 Convertible, and thinking about doing this as a winter project. Did you think about doing anything in the trunk or further behind seats. I saw in comments you used 2 layers around console.

Yes, I did do all behind the seats and the trunk area. I did not record all of it because it would have made the video very long. I did show behind the seat in this video.

Great step by step instructional video, but why would you do this??? I love how loud and rough the ride is in my C7 as I want to be reminded that I'm driving a performance car and not some family sedan. I actually HATE that my C7 is QUIETER and smoother than my 2013 C6 GS!

I also love the exhaust noise but I do not like the road noise. I could actually hear rocks it the Bottom of the car. This sure helped.

I don't see why Chevrolet doesn't do this from the beginning. Can't be that expensive, and we all know about the road noise.

The majority of sound comes from the rear tires and you completely missed the rear wheel wells.
