How much hp gain did you get from the exhaust? What was the gain over stock?
@HorsePowerObsessed4 жыл бұрын
I didn't dyno before the exhaust but AWE did and showed a 19hp difference.
@Rickstop4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what the exhaust cost but for the performance gain, the air filter seems a much better deal. $150 for a 10hp gain vs 19hp for what is easily $2500 plus installation. I don’t know why every C8 owner wouldn’t get one of these. Especially when you consider the filter has to be replaced at some point but your stock exhaust will last forever.

And don’t get me wrong, I want to get a new exhaust for my c8 which was finally built last week, but the filter seems to be a no brainer.

You can get good gains from a K&N, but there are some great youtube tests that show K&Ns provide almost no filtration. I think the K&Ns had like 5% more flow and let 44,000 counted particles through, vs 1 particle for the best air filter.
@HorsePowerObsessed4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That's exactly why the nanofiber filter of this air filter is so important. It maintains factory like (possibly even better) filtration with a higher flow to allow more performance as well.
@FFE-js2zp4 жыл бұрын
@@HorsePowerObsessed It's a statistical marketing game, though. For example you can double the flow of any air filter with the exact same filtration efficiency by using two of them in parallel. But you also pass twice the dirt particles into the engine. So its easy to double the flow by doing 50% less filtration and at the same time advertise identical filter element efficiency--just double the pleats. If you have higher flow you have less overall filtration, in all cases. K&N is a pretty extreme case where you are running essentially no filter except for the big chunks like leaves. It's a tight screen more than a filter.

Now that blogs are showing the new carbon fiber air intake, this will require some thinking. I think the Blue filter could favor a Corvette that looks closer to stock in the C8 that the new carbon fiber intake. You have that beautiful custom intake that goes with the red valve covers that will not fit over the new custom intake. Another choice. Given how beautiful the HPO custom cover of the stock air intake intake is, it demands a lot of compromise to abandon that and go to the carbon fiber intake with all of the design. (Makes me wonder how crazy people will go with the flat plane crank Z06 when choosing in making modifications. It doesn't matter that GM does it for you, you will do it yourself. Then Linginfelter (Sp?) will do it for you like they did with the Turbo kitted Z06's of the past which got to something like 776 horsepower with a factory warranty. I love the stuff that has been done with the HPO cars, but some of all of the warranty may be a trade off. Hopefully most of the C8's will be robust enough to handle all the changes and have no issues. Really good job. I've sent for a couple of those wallets too. AF

@king-o-vetts98994 жыл бұрын
This is what I learned from your dyno sheets. On both dynos, the second run picked up power. The stock run gained 2.84 horsepower from run 1 to run 2. With the new filter, run 2 picked up 2.70 horsepower over run 1. To get a 12 horsepower gain (actually 11.39) you compared the first stock run with the second run with the filter. I noticed that when you showed the dyno sheets you put your finger over the stock run number 2. Comparing run 1 stock to run 1 with the filter the gain was 8.58. Comparing run 2 stock to run 2 with the filter the gain was 8.55. I am in no way criticizing the filter. Eight and a half horsepower for just an air filter is pretty good even though the added airflow contributed by the exhaust should favor an increase in intake performance. I also admit that without data that is just a non-definable guess.
@HorsePowerObsessed4 жыл бұрын
The stock run was the top one and the second one there was one of the aftermarket filter tests. The stock runs were all within two horsepower of each other. The best performing filter was the same, all within 2 hp of each other throughout all six runs. The dyno is consistent, the gains are consistent, it's all good, my friend.

Again an interesting test... and again where’s the rest of the story? There is no indication as to the efficiency of stock filter versus the other products tested. The performance gains boil down to one thing... LESS PRESSURE DROP THROUGH THE FILTER increasing airflow (combustion air) to the power plant. Two ways this happens with air filters... 1) Reduce the filter media ability to capture Particulate so less pressure drop through the filter or 2) Increase the amount of media surface area that the filter can capture particulate with. In the case of scenario 1) you are reducing the capture efficiency of the filter to reduce the pressure drop through the filter increasing air flow through it... at the expense of more particulate circulating through the power plant. In the case of scenario 2) increasing the media area requires more physical space to accommodate the filter and its increased media area. Think: The flat HVAC filter at Home Depot versus the Pleated HVAC Filters @ Home Depot... So the questions your Filter Manufacturer has NOT answered how did he achieve the reduced pressure drops through his various options and at what cost to particulate capture efficiency? High performance power plants need high performance filtration imo.... GM has worked the science on this for sure... Could this after market filter cause GM to say... After Market Filter = No Power Plant warranty because more particulate is passing through the power plant? .... Hmmm..... (Post script... I spent a large amount of my career designing, building and maintaining a wide variety of Clean Rooms for various applications of “Clean Research and Manufacturing”... I have NEVER seen a “washable” filter media used in these high efficiency filter requirements...)

GM spends Billions on the C8 sure will not shim on $40-60 retail price, probably adding 20 for GM, per car if GM can say the C8 get 507 instead of 495 HP GM tries to save money everywhere GM can but if it can boost 12 HP I would think GM will let customers pay for the better air filter, may be included in the Z51 package adding $50-100 more to the package
@HorsePowerObsessed4 жыл бұрын
It's not necessarily just more expensive, there could be EPA regulations as well because if it breathes better, there is likely more exhaust, too. There are a lot of reasons GM could have decided to stick with a more restrictive filter over just cost alone. Now with that said, in the future offering a "GM Performance Intake" for this car could be a real possibility. GM could purposely be leaving areas to improve upon later with another purchase necessary to unlock more power.
@allsportsexpert4 жыл бұрын
@@HorsePowerObsessed Appreciate your reply. Breath better means more oxygen for combustion means more complete combustion. A little more CO2 but a lot less unburnt Carbon and NOx and CO One of the smog control is to recirculate a small amount of exhaust gas back for further combustion, decreasing power
