C8 Corvette vs 992 Carrera S vs 2021 Toyota Supra // DRAG RACE, ROLL RACE & LAP TIMES

Thomas and James put some of the most exciting new cars head to head. The C8 is a proven entity on our drag strip, but how does it compare to its more expensive rival, the Carrera S? Also along is the new and updated 2021 Toyota Supra, which packs the least punch of the three, but might just be light enough to hang in there. Thomas also does a hot lap in the 911. It's been like this since the c5 zo6 came out in 2001. By the late 1990s with the C5 and even more so with the C6 that followed, the Corvette, with its ancient leaf spring suspension was having a hard time putting down power effectively. Even though GM placed the transmission at the rear of the car for more weight on the rear drive tires, connecting it to the front mounted engine via a torque tube, it was difficult to launch as well as the rear engined 911. At this point Porsche started taking the straight line stats on the upper models (911s or better) while the Corvette Z models began to become track stars with great lap times (as were the Camaro SS variants).

@@chirazi I am actually thinking the C7 Corvette has a big problem with that Cylinder Deactivation feature. They are saying you need to get a manual car and drive it NOT in ECO mode. So, there is that. I wouldn't complain too much, but it is just so hard to part with $80k and know you have to fiddle around with buttons every time you drive it, or do some damage to your engine. I don't get paid to drive. I have a C6 Z and thinking it is either C6 ZR-1, or get my car tuned up, or wait for the C8 Z06, which I can only afford after somebody else puts 100,000 miles on it. Love the Porsche of course, once I win the lottery. Thanks.

I've seen detailed reviews on utube range so dramatically on the new C8 0-60 time, from 2.6-3.6sec which is an absolute HUGE difference! A few reviewers spent the time figuring it out and accordingly there is a very specific setup in the driver settings that makes all the difference to achieve the quickest time. Its not just launch control, so im curious where the C8 sat in the 0-60 in these races??? Oh, and i think the new Carrera S is actually turbocharged even without the nomenclature which gives it a torque boost.

I've got Eagle F1s on my 981 and they're decent all round tyres but the limit of grip isn't incredible, so a proper track tyre will definitely make a huge difference.

As a veteran valet I can tell you that the Supra feels great to drive and the build quality is amazing. I've driven just about everything except a Veyron, but Toyota and Lexus never fail to impress. Even 15 year old Camrys and Avalons feel much more put together than some $300,000 supercars. The cheapest feeling cars are Maserati, Jaguar, Range Rovers, and Chevy cars and SUVs. These cars feel so insanely cheap inside that you wouldn't believe it unless you've driven one. Toyota may not have the quickest cars, but their build quality is like nothing else.

Former valet, and I totally agree. Although I blame the job for giving me a love for Porsche and BMW. British cars are extremely dissapointing and I'm sad I never got to drive the LFA Lexus brought to advertise at the Ritz I worked at.

As a Supra owner I can’t even imagine what the other cars would feel like. I went from an impreza straight into the b58 platform and it feels so quick but they made it seem like the Supra was just walking behind them, wow.

Motor trend had the C8 a tenth faster in the Quarter. Nothing in this drag race lines up with anything I've seen. Either the Vette here is disadvantaged or the Porsche is a unicorn in some way. I honestly thought the C8 might lose, but thought it would be super super close at least. Either way still impressed for the price.

What does the "Boost" button on the Porsche do? I know this 911 Carrera S has 2 small turbos, so I assume the Boost Button temporarily turns up theBoost for launches... But how much extra horsepower does it actually make?
