I bought a C8 HTC Z51. I was never very big on convertibles but the new HTC is the best of both worlds and the HTC to me is way more exotic looking with the top up or down. It’s also nice to have the little rear window that can be opened with the top up.

@@FredsFullThrottle yep Fred I got 2500 miles on mine now I’ve owned 8 corvettes in my lifetime every generation except a C1 and a C6. This new C8 is unbelievable Great power I’m averaging 23 miles per gallon handles and brakes great. Lots of room if your tall and plenty of trunk space. Just a 10 out of 10 and it’s not even a Z06. I understand now why they sell for more used than new.

Hi Archie, Thanks for reaching out, and for the kind words. My approach for the channel has been to be up front, no fluff, and lead with data/sources cited. I don't run with speculation, and call out when something is a rumor versus confirmed. I got tired of all the other car channels trying to be "first" without being "right". I'm rarely the first with news or details, but you can be reasonably assured that my data is accurate, and I won't waste your time. Anyway, thanks for watching and for the compliments! -Fred

The fact that the HTC has the mid-body styling features (including the nacelles) that give it an exotic look, slightly more headroom, way more storage and effortless convenience make it a no-brainer choice for me. At MSRP, no other car will touch it, but I wouldn’t pay used McLaren, R8 or Huracan prices for it

Hi Velocidad, Totally agree on all counts. It's funny, with all the waiting, your mind runs through scenarios. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought of every possible alternative car for what we estimate the Z to cost. And every time, I come back to the Z. Whether performance, bang for the buck, likely reliability, etc... It outmatches anything I can think of up to 3x the price, and has a lot more convenience/utility to boot! (just trying fitting a carryon suitcase in a 570S!). Also, with used exotics like that, you're likely to "inherit" some quirks and "hidden features"(issues) along the way. I'll take the Z, all day! Have a nice weekend! -Fred

Fred, Well done! I always appreciate your perspective. What puzzles me, since the coupe & HTC are basically the same both frame and rollover protection, which GM claims will hold 2.5 times the weight of the car, why certain tracks and or certain events will not allow the HTC. I still need to check with Road Atlanta but when I ran events before they allowed convertibles with hoops behind the seats. From my persecutive, it has been the HTC since day one. When I placed my Z06 deposit with MM Sep 2020, I told the sales rep that I want the HTC! My C5R-427 was a convertible. Seeing the engine may be unique in the beginning but for me it is not that important. Plus I do not want people leaning over the car to get a closer look. The ease of putting the top down especially while driving is a real plus. More than once driving the C5R-427 in the mountains on narrow roads with no place to pull over, and bingo it starts raining. I watched a video of a McLaren dealer evaluating a C8 coupe, and although complimentary, you could see he was not overly impressed. Months later he had the chance to see a C8 HTC, and the first words out of his mouth, "Now this looks like an exotic!" The smile on his face said it all. You and I are on the same page with specs! Sully
@FredsFullThrottle
@FredsFullThrottle 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sully! Pleasure as always hearing from you! I agree with you on all points. I do think those nacelles really lend a more exotic look to the car, elevating it. Just yesterday I was at MacMulkin for my annual oil change, and got to browse the showroom. They had probably 15-20 C8's and 2/3 were HTC's. I'll be honest, to me they just look nicer. I love the Coupe, don't get me wrong, but the fact you can have the hard top, the push button roof down, AND get all the looks is a no-brainer for me. The great part is that there even is a choice. The funny part about the comment about the McLaren dealer, is that the C8 probably gets better fuel economy, is right there on performance, has MORE storage, and is a fraction of the price. I totally get that they aren't targeting the same buyer market, and I do think McLarens are awfully nice (I have been smitten by the 720s/765LT from day one), but even the fact that the C8 is mentioned in the same breath is a testament to how high above its weight it's punching. Have a great weekend man! -Fred

@@FredsFullThrottle Before the Z06, McLaren was on my radar. But after looking a bit, the price is way beyond what I wanted to spend on a "fun" car. Also, I saw 3 videos where the McLaren owners, richer than I, had other exotics and their McLaren was the least reliable. However I still like the looks and performance! Like you, I appreciate various cars! I just think that the Z06 is the best bang for the $$$! Hopefully by this time next year, I will be behind the wheel of my HTC Z06.

Best comparison I’ve seen. FYI, everyone says the cost difference is $7,500. That’s true only for the 1LT. For 2 and 3 trim levels, the cost difference is $7,000. I have a loaded ‘22 HTC and would NEVER want to trade it for a coupe just for what amounts to a 7.6% difference. Bite the bullet and get the HTC; you won’t regret it.

Hi Brian, Thanks for reaching out, nice to hear from you! Congrats on your car, it sounds awesome. I'm with you, I think the HTC doesn't sacrifice much over the coupe, and if you don't care about showing off the motor (like me), then there's no real compromise here. TBH I'd way rather be driving the car and out enjoying it, than sitting at cars and coffee and bench racing. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the HTC seems like a win all around to me. Great episode Fred. Something lost in the debate is heat dissipation and the HTC. I went to Ron Fellows and did what I would consider mild lapping. 5-8 laps then a break. The heat coming out of the hood vents is pretty amazing. The HTC doesn't shed heat like that. If track days, 20 lap sessions, multiple rotations in hot areas of the country, heat will be an issue for both trims. If I was going to do anything over autocross I would buy the coupe. I have had my roof off many times in weather that hasnt gotten over 50 degrees much. Turn up the heat and I'm good. Heated seats would make it better. There is buffeting that you don't get with the HTC. Drop the windows 1" and it is greatly reduced. Keep them coming Fred...Pierre.
@FredsFullThrottle
@FredsFullThrottle 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pierre! (Thanks for sharing your name!) Heat dissipation is a really good point. I actually thought about including it, but I didn't have enough info or details to back it up. It's certainly a concern, but I couldn't find much actual data/examples of how well either option dissipates it. One thought I've had, I've heard HTC owners lamenting the lack of a visible engine when they open the roof mechanism half way or for maintenance. Several people online have said "Oh, I'll just replace that opaque panel with plexiglass or something". I don't think any of them thought about the tremendous heat that engine will be putting off. Also, don't they realize if there was any way that Chevy could have done it (safely) that they would have? They know what a great looking engine they've got, and clearly celebrate the mid engine layout. It's just funny to me that armchair "experts" seem to think that they can A. Design or do something better than Chevy, and B. Chevy didn't think of it first. To your point though, I do think there would be some concern with lots of laps (especially in a hot climate) on track, and getting adequate cooling. With the coupe, being able to just park with the rear hatch open for 10 min to help cool it would really make a difference. I do have confidence that Chevy did test the tolerances of their heat shielding for the roof package during testing. After all, they show in their promo videos a Z07 version of the HTC on a track many times (that bright orange one). It would not compute in my head if they didn't think of that, or didn't realize someone would buy a track focused car (well Z07 at least) and not track it. Certainly most won't, but some will. But, one of the benefits of being further back in the line on reservations, is that I have the foresight of seeing how it all goes before I pick my final spec. I can see the reviews, read and talk with owners, watch all the videos and all the mistakes people make. Essentially I could become an expert in the car before I even have mine, so that I go into it with eyes open. That's my current mindset at least. Here's hoping there isn't anything serious, but if worse came to worse, or if pricing is insane for some reason, I would still be just fine with the coupe. Agreed with you on driving when it's cold. I run with my windows down on my C7 pretty much anytime I drive it if it's above 50 degrees. Heated seat cranked, heat vents cranking, and I get to enjoy that LT1 growl. Nice to hear from you (as always), and have a great weekend! -Fred PS - I thought of you this afternoon. This weekend I'm doing a small project and will be using some scrap wood that's in my garage for it. 2 projects actually. The reason I thought of you, is that it'll be using up wood that's crowding the top shelf in my garage. It's not on camera (it's left of the FFT banner), but it will help free up space for me to start thinking about maybe at some point doing a bit of a reorg on my shelves and a clean out of the garage. Nothing major (don't want to get your hopes up just yet!), but progress nonetheless. Anyway, talk to you soon!

Don't let Fred's comment ease your concerns... I have a '21 HTC and it has been in the shop 3 times. Once for tank level sensor (said I was empty when I was full) and twice for the HTC. The back lid will open, but doesn't lower the top and I get a "Service Convertible Top". Both times, it was stuck in the up position. Second time, dealer replaced a sensor. I went months without an issue. This weekend, the HTC was stuck in the down position. Tried numerous times and got the same "service" error. Called dealer, scheduled an appointment, pushed the button and it magically came up! Pulled back into the garage and called the dealer back. I love the HTC, but it has some issues...

@@FredsFullThrottle I wish someone would explain why the HTC will open via fob, but it will not close. If I had to choose, I would prefer my fob to close the HTC! I owned the Stingray coupe and traded for HTC. Aside from all pros for HTC, the biggest difference for me was 'injector ticking noise'. HTC eliminates it with the plastic cover and the lid on top of the engine! I also hear the exhaust better by lowering the rear window compared to coupe. For me, I've always planned on getting the coupe for pretty much all of the reasons you mentioned. Even though I'm probably sticking with a coup configuration, your video was very entertaining and informative of the subject. It's also so true what you mentioned in your video about coupe owners: most of the time I forget that the panel is even removable! All my prior vettes have been coupes and I've taken the roof panel off maybe 5 or 6 times over the years, but it is nice to know that it's an option. BTW, like most everybody that's following you, I've been keeping a score card on how I believe you will build your car and comparing it to my own build. So far I've been on the money with your choices, but I did have you down for going with a coupe! Great job with the vids, Fred!

Thanks man! Right there with you! It'll be really interesting to see what the normal temps are for the LT6, as well as ambient engine bay temperature. My concern with any clear option that isn't actually a type of glass, would be how well it holds up to heat. Polymer based transparent "glass" can get cloudy with significant heat. I'm sure there'll be a solution, but it'll be something I follow for sure. My gut is telling me that if Chevy could have possibly made it clear for the HTC they would have, but it also could have been a cost saving measure to keep the option in that sub 8k range. Ha ha ha...Awww Yeah... It's Fredday Again! GM, Fred & Manju S. This was one of the deep dives I was most interested in. Most of these facts I have already learned about, but two were new! It makes sense, but I guess I never thought about the C8 being designed as a convertible in general. Essentially the Coupe and HTC are convertibles, but I like there is no difference based on chassis stiffness or rigidity overall! For my use with a few track days a year on the calendar, the HTC will not be limiting me in any way, so any current limitations for a harness bar won't matter! Since I've seen HTCs on the drag strip track and road course tracks and this will be my intended occasional track use, then I won't have any problems! My overall use will be regular driving with road trips planned, so the need for storage space is a must, so I am 100% HTC. The $7500 additional cost doesn't really matter overall, as it will always be a return when resale value/trade in is concerned! Be Well Fred -Shane

Hey man! Glad I was able to share a few things you hadn't thought of. I always try to find the balance of "detailed enough", without being boring or too bogged down on minutia like bolt sizes, center of gravity adjustments, etc... Also, as you and I have discussed offline, there is the tradeoff of time spent on the planning/filming/editing, versus return on the video. I was actually editing this one right up to 8pm last night. I liked that I was able to pull in a few video clips of the 2 roof options being used, which I think really helped convey how they work. I'm with you, I've seen enough HTC use in light to moderate track situations that I don't see it being a blocker for how many of us will use the car on track. Agreed on the price too. Hi John! Not weird at all! Being able to distill it down to whatever factor matters most for you is great! That's a great reason, and completely makes sense to me! The tricky part for some (maybe most?) people is that there are multiple factors that matter to them, so it's more about weighing tradeoffs, than just picking the one thing that matters most. I hear you though, that LT6 is a beauty. Personally, I like the look of it without the carbon dressing kit on it, so you're seeing the actual top of the air intakes/plenum. There's something for me about the mechanical feel that really feels special. But the carbon looks pretty slick with the LED lighting package too. Which do you like better? Have a nice day! -Fred

I'm inclined to agree. Though I have a C7, I can honestly say I've only ever driven with the roof off twice. If the roof was fixed on the C8, then they wouldn't have necessarily needed to make such a large trunk, and could have tightened up the dimensions a bit. Though, since they want to have 2 golf bags fit, maybe it couldn't shrink that much. It's a car that is made to be a jack of all trades for a lot of different people, so unfortunately they can't go too far in any direction without compromising elsewhere. Have a nice day Tony! -Fred

You did a good job covering all the points in a reasonable amount of time. Before the C8 came out a knowledgeable member of another Corvette Club made a presentation on the C8. My question was on lost storage space with the targa roof off. With the arrival of the C8 the answer to my question and your video made it clear you lose a lot of space. I exclusively drove my C6 and now my C7 with the top off. The C7 has a distinct advantage over the C8 when it comes to long road trips. Back in 2009 my wife and I took a trip beginning in Portland Oregon that eventually ended at the Hurst Castle in California. We had soft luggage and did a pretrip loading to test locking of the targa roof without forcing it. It was awesome being able to ride open air especially on the Pacific Coast Hwy. BTW at 6'4" how do you fit in your C7 GS? While everything about the interior of my GS is superior to my C6 there does seem to be less room. Again Great Job!

Hi Bill, Thanks for reaching out, and the nice compliment! One of the biggest challenges I face in making videos like this is finding where to "cut off" on the detail. I want to provide enough that it helps/informs the majority of the questions/curiosity that people have, but also don't want to be too "light" or too "heavy" on minutia. Sounds like I struck a decent balance! I agree with you on the C7, a ton more storage. I haven't done any road trips in my car (yet), but having that abundance of space is really nice. I think the C8 really strikes such a nice balance of power, performance, looks, convenience, utility, etc... I can't even ding them on the loss of space too much, considering that there aren't many (any?) other cars with as much balance in so many areas, no matter the price. The closest that comes to mind to me is the Cayman series for utility, handling, etc... but then in raw performance it falls to the C8. Haha, fitting in the C7, I don't know to be honest. I'm roughly normal proportions torso to legs, but I do have to play around with my seat a fair bit to get the right position. I take a more "racers" stance in the car (upright, arms bent just right, a bit more close to the wheel), rather than leaned back, so I think that helps. My seat has about .5" of room to slide back or recline that I don't currently use. Anyway, thank you for the kind words, glad it was helpful. I really appreciate the support! Have a great weekend, and thanks again for saying hi! -Fred

Something I have noticed about the HTC with the top up is the smaller "fake" quarter window. It looks longer and a better part of the flow of the design on the coupe. I will probably end up with an E-Ray before my position for the Z06 ( I would probably sell one for the other) which makes for less need to see the engine. I like the look of the first years NSX with the black top and would consider doing a coupe top black in vinyl for that look. The nacelles on the HTC can be black but they did not carry the black far enough down to where they meet the flat surfaces as I might have done it. Plus there is that little step in the design of the nacelle that makes disturbs the flow. I'll have plenty of time. I'm wondering if the E-Ray can get the Z07 look options. I have had three cars with sunroofs that I never used. Generally speaking I don't feel a need to be in the wind but I did own a 911 Porsche Speedster at one time and with air conditioning or heating that you could feel, it was really pleasant in the times I drove it topless.

Great Vlog Fred! Loved the Pros & Cons Well thought out and has assisted me in making my decision. I have the luxury (some would say the opposite) of being further down on the ZO6 list to see what others will say about the C8 ZO6 prior to me seeing an allocation. Working out all the bugs too of a new launch and engine design for Chevrolet. I’m leaning towards the coupe. Looking at a potential build, information provided by the Corvette Action Center shows that the “Base ZO6 model” checks a lot of the boxes for me. The only major option I would add is the Front Lift. Will need to decide on a trim level. I’m not really into Carbon Fiber, thank goodness… saving a lot of money there! I love the look of those CF Wheels, but I think they’re going to be issues with curb rash, pot holes and tire changing machines. People actively tracking their cars are going to go through how many sets? There are 3 other options (I call them practical options) I have with my C8 that I would carry over. Those being: ERI Battery Protection Package, PEF Contoured Liner Protection Package and SDA Tow Hook $540 total expense I think. (These could be included in the build or purchased later) If the Base ZO6 MSRP is around $89,000 my build would probably come in lower than $100,000 Then the other considerations are my health and when I get the allocation as I will be around age 70. I might be totally happy with my C8 and not be inclined to want the ZO6, but my son may want the car, so that could be another possibility. Have you thought about a color? I really like Torch Red and Black Trim! Watching the Vlog again. 4th time lol!

Hi Doug! It sounds like you've got a solid spec figured out. Agreed, CF gets really pricey, and for most of us, other than aesthetics, there isn't a tangible benefit. Have you gotten more time out in your C8? Curious how the break in has been going, and just your overall enjoyment? Also, I'm curious with the HTC currently why you're going coupe on the Z? Both are great, and it will save you some money, just curious if there's a specific reason other than variety. So my current leading colors are ELBM, Red Mist, and Amplify Orange. I was over at MacMulkin yesterday to sit in an HTC with the roof up (to make sure my big head fit!), and they had one there in AO. It really popped. The one there didn't have many black accents besides the high wing, so it didn't look quite balanced. I would get the nacelles in black, and the mirrors in black or carbon flash (whichever they offer). Interestingly, HSGM has been high on my list from photos, but then seeing 3 cars in it yesterday, it just didn't wow me as much. Didn't look bad or anything, but was just.....meh. But, they did have a couple Red Mist cars, and those also gleamed. Love the depth of the paint. I haven't seen ELBM in person up close before (just driving around), so I'm very interested to see that up close. Also, being 2-3 years out, there may not be some colors by then, and some other new ones to replace it. I'll tell you my secret hope. That they would release an Admiral Blue Metallic (same color as my C7) by year 3. If they did, that would 100% be my color. I love it on my current car, and besides the manual transmission, that's one of my favorite features of the car. Anyway, thanks for reaching out, always nice to hear from you, and have a great weekend Doug! -Fred

@@FredsFullThrottle No action on the break in. Stones still on the roads and weather have been factors and chemo side effects have held me back. We got 3” of snow on Wednesday and they had to put more stones out on a small hill and intersection I need to drive through. Of course you know for your build, Red Mist would get my vote! (ELBM was my other choice and I initially had ELBM on my build, but changed it to Red Mist about 3 weeks later.) Although, what color selections will be offered in the future? Could possibly be a game changer! Why not HTC for ZO6? $$$$ $7,500 at the current price quickly raises a build. And, I’m more of a coupe guy. Never thought of a convertible until the C8. Great vlog Fred. I am 6'6" and actually skipped the C7 generation since it was less room than C6. I fit alright in my C6 coupe. I am #97 at macmulkin and been waiting a good while. I won't be tracking the Z06 but the sound is most important to me and I miss my convertible prowler I barely fit in and the htc is just the ticket. Sound, looks, ease of use, a little extra room with and without the top up. Being able to see and clean the engine is not enough to outweigh the sound and all the better things that come with the htc. My redeye only needed an exhaust and the Z06 probably the same. Maybe just a cat swap is all. Z06 htc 3lz ccb in rapid blue. Still deciding on interior and Z07 package. Going to the ncm bash later this week to see some colors for the first time and hopefully the Z06 in some different specs.

Hi pHixiq, I think your comment was directed at Vettesweetnos, but I can chime in a bit. I'll keep things simple, since there are a million thoughts on the subject. In my opinion (based on my own experiences), you need to do a few things: 1. Find a career you like, that can fund the lifestyle you want. College is generally helpful for certain fields, but not a requirement (again, depending on the field). I know electricians, plumbers, and contractors who make a lot more than I do, who didn't go to college. If you do go to college, make sure you enjoy your field/major, and the career you'd have, but also make sure it can "pay the bills" so to speak when you get out. That art history degree may be your passion, but if you can't get a solid paying job upon graduation, then it doesn't do you much good. It is important to like what you do though, so try to find a balance between enjoyment/fulfillment, and one that pays well enough to fund hobbies like cars or whatever your interests are. To answer your question, I am an engineer, and work in E-commerce. 2. Educate yourself on basic "real world finance", and "personal finance". Read as much as you can on it. This is all the basic stuff about managing debt, how to save, insurance to cover your assets, basics on investing, etc... Being good with money is a key requirement unless you have excess wealth. School doesn't (or at least my college didn't) provide ANY guidance on how to be good with money. Much of the advice I was given when I was younger was wrong. I fell into investing early on through luck (won a business card raffle for a free lunch). Most of us (myself included) need to be careful with money to be able to afford the things we want. If you can't find answers, read books, talk to a financial advisor, etc... Chances are when you first start out post-college, you won't be making much (I wasn't). But, if you work hard, you can grow a lot faster than you expect. I'm at a point in life where I'm well beyond even my highest aspirations as a college kid, and never thought I'd get here. I've only been out of college 16 years, and already achieved every goal I set forth in life, so it's definitely doable. My last goal (to retire early) is well on its way, and I'm on track for that as well. 3. Save, save, save, and spend on the things that matter most with you. Life is frequently about tradeoffs. Saving for that car you want tomorrow, means you can't buy that other thing you want today. I lived well below my means for a while, which allowed me to save. For me the tradeoffs were worth it, but it's not for everyone. Eventually your compensation can grow to where it more easily supports your interests, but that takes years and years of work generally. That said, you need to enjoy life as you go along, not always waiting for "tomorrow", because we never know how long we have. It's all about balance. Be disciplined with money, and when you are making enough to have some discretionary income, I suggest getting a financial advisor (only a certified fiduciary). They will help you leverage your money to meet all your goals, and help you plan for the future. TBH, the cars and whatever else is all window dressing for a strong financial background. To me, I wouldn't have the cars and everything else unless I had everything else squared away first. Those are the last step. The other stuff helps you sleep at night, Everyone is different, and this is just what worked for me. Hope it helps. Lastly, saving up for the car I have, I made a video about the exact process (with numbers/details): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp6zioSbabR1pKM And then the way I saved up to buy the new Z06 I made another video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnOqpZWIeJ6jbNk Good luck! -Fred

Hi Rick, Thanks for reaching out! I'm really interested in the ride differences for the Z07 package as well. There are a LOT of changes in that package under the skin of the car, and from impressions I've watched from the design team and a few ride-alongs, it sounds fairly substantial. I'll be covering the Z07 package in as much detail as possible soon (another one of my deep dives, like this one), and will see if I can dig up any better sense of the differences for day to day comfort/usability. Agreed, the Z07 will come with the Cup2R's (I think that's the model), which are super grippy, but also get significantly less life than the P4S's. That'll be something I cover heavily, I have a lot to offer on that (from my own experience with the PSS's (precursor to the P4S's). It does sound like a good plan to have track wheels, and road wheels, especially to make best use of that exotic rubber. Have a nice day Rick! -Fred

Interesting. I can see with all the windows up that might be the case, since that main panel without the glass over the engine is thicker and has heat shielding. However from every owner I've talked to who has the HTC and has been in the Coupe, with the mid-window down, you have a straight shot over the back to the exhausts. Hi Ross, Yup, I mentioned that in the video. However, they are not as solid as a dedicated steel rollbar (hence the market for aftermarket roll bars for the Coupe), and being safe for track versus regular onroad driving are two different things. I don't disagree, the car is likely quite safe even if it rolls over, however when the convertible mechanism is open, you can see that there isn't a ton of additional structure inside. I'm just pointing out what I found, so to inform others, and since I'm interested in doing track work with the car. Have a nice day, thanks for reaching out! -Fred

Thanks Scott! So the interesting thing about the detailer spray, is that I didn't actually notice a difference on the XPEL on the car. The XPEL soap I use is specific to the PPF I have, and includes a bunch of additives that make water bead, cut down on static/dust/dirt accumumulation, etc... I bought the Zymoll early in ownership of the car, so it's probably like 4 years old (maybe not even still good?), and I've only used it twice, both times when the car got a bit dirty on the drive to a cars and coffee. Only thing I really love about it is it smells Tutti Frutti, lol. But aside from that, I didn't find it made the car have any better luster, or shine. It's a great product (I've seen other cars use it specifically to great affect, in fact I got this specific one after seeing an M2 owner use it and transform his car), but I just haven't seen much effect on my own car. Hope that helps, realize it may not be the most helpful answer. Have a nice day, and thanks for reaching out! -Fred

I have a 2022 HTC, and I completely disagree that the coupe is somehow quieter. The rear window on the HTC opens to the exterior, not to the engine compartment. The coupe requires much thicker glass there to muffle engine noise. The HTC, on the other hand, has the tonneau cover AND the thermal barrier to muffle engine noise. The HTC is the way to go, believe me.

Hi Brian, Thanks for reaching out. Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been traveling up through last week, and have over 100 comments to reply to. Anyway, my comment about the sound being quieter in the Coupe maybe wasn't as well explained as I thought. In car with windows up engine noise wasn't what I was talking about. I was talking about the exhaust noise of both cars. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Windows down, with the mid-window down in the HTC, you have direct "line of sight" so to speak, directly to the back of the car where the exhausts are. With the Coupe, you have 2 layers of glass to get through to the exhausts, or the side windows (which are a wash vs the HTC). I was talking about the direct exhaust noise, not the engine noise right behind you. Also, while applicable to the Stingray, I was taking into account the center exhaust with the sound reflective bezels on the Z06. Since exhaust noise was something they were specifically targeting for the Z, that's what I was focused on. Regardless, congrats on your HTC, and I agree with you, the HTC is the way to go! Hi John, Thanks for reaching out! If you haven't been to one of the dealer tour stops, definitely try to make it to one. I get the point you're making, that there's a lot of ancillary packaging on the engine, however with the LT6, you actually are seeing the engine. For cars that don't have the carbon accent package, you can see in stead two big polymer ribbed pieces right in the center. These are the intake plenums on top of the cylinders. Inside (if you were to open it up) are 3 different valves which are always in varying states of open/close to modulate the intake pressures for the engine. This is not dis-similar from the big intake scoops present on a lot of modded muscle cars from the 60's/70's. It may not be metal, but it's no less part of the engine. Also, if you look down in the bay on the sides, you can see the red anodizing of the cylinder heads. I don't think you can get too much more of a view of an engine than the cylinder heads. But I digress. To your point, engine bays for the last 30-ish years (maybe longer) have gotten more and more cluttered with wiring, hoses, and plastic. I'm always amazed at car shows how "empty" the engine bays look in older cars, definitely a cleaner look! That said, as the technology has improved, it's amazing how science and technology have crept in to provide dramatic performance and efficiency gains. Sort of the "cost of progress", to lose that clean engine bay, but likely worth it (unless someone cares more about aesthetics than function). One isn't better than the other, it's just different. But if you take any 2 eras of cars, or just engineering for that matter, things change. Hopefully people can appreciate both for what they are. Have a nice day, thanks for reaching out! -Fred

Agreed, for those of us with "normal" weather (read: it rains occasionally, and isn't always sunny), the HTC is much handier for frequent roof changes. :) Have a nice day Joe! -Fred

Can you talk without moving your hands. I'm thinking no.

The question is....why would I want to? :) If I stood there with my hands at my sides I think it would look weird, not to mention I would probably not have any energy. Do you use your hands when you talk? :) The funny thing is that in "in person" conversations I don't use my hands nearly as much, but when I'm presenting something I do. Go figure... lol

Of course he can. The hand movements are very good and a positive part of his videos in my opinion. It's the fredway.
