I'm a CSUS graduate (Go Warriors!!!), so it's great seeing my old stomping grounds again. That migration from the Bay Area to the Valley can explain the traffic issues today too.

Glad you are doing these ride alongs/ driving videos. I recently just moved to friant im enjoying central California but the heat knocked me out. Im moved from upland in southern California

I was so lucky to have reverse commute while going to Stan State. The traffic is awful, I always took 132 home.

Caltrans moved CA-132 to a freeway (one lane each direction) off of Maze Blvd (between CA-99 and North Dakota Ave), so it would be nice to see some footage of that. Also Union Rd on CA-120 became the state's first diverging diamond interchange not too long ago. Since you mentioned future Bakersfield footage, I'm looking forward to seeing the new Centennial Corridor / Westside Parkway (CA-58).

I traveled on the new 132 eastbound from I-5 two weeks ago. It looks like it's not finished yet. I know the residents on 132 closer to Modesto were always complaining about the truck traffic. Bakersfield built the Centennial Corridor to provide easier access to northbound I-5. Fresno has yet to do anything like that. People want Highway 180 extended west to I-5. Currently it ends in Mendota at Highway 33.

I was born in Tracy in 1950. I remember when 9th St. in Modesto was Highway 99. The freeway was built about 1968 and was only four lanes. The current Highway 120 was built about 1972 to replace Yosemite Ave. in Manteca. 120 was built as ONE LANE in each direction and was outdated as soon as it opened. Spreckles sugar factory was located at the junction of Highways 99 and 120 in Manteca. You always knew when they were processing sugar beets because it smelled like a sewer. Locals called it "Manstinko". The sugar factory was blown up in the 1980s and now it's Spreckles Business Park. Turlock was the worst city to travel through before the freeway was built in the 1970s. You hit EVERY stop light in downtown Turlock. Locals said that was on purpose to help local businesses. The housing boom started in the 1980s with the computer companies springing up all over "Silicon Valley". The population of Tracy about 1960 was only 10,000. In 2024 it's about 100,000 and is the second largest city in San Joaquin County after Stockton. About the year 2000 the South San Joaquin Irrigation District in Escalon began selling water to the City of Tracy. They do this because there are almost no farm customers left in Escalon.

You might add the Bay Area earthquakes to your well presented linty. I remember driving 99 in the late 40’s when it was all 2 lane with a few 4 lane beginnings around Bakersfield.
