I was born in Sacramento and grew up there. Many times my mother (a 5th grade teacher) and my dad took my sisters and me to Coloma. In 2019 I visited California (I now live in Oregon) and took my husband to Coloma as I had such wonderful memories of it. It did not6 disappoint! And the drive on this road taking us to Auburn sure brought back memories of many childhood road trips. This is a great post! Thanks!!

My heart just skipped a few beats! I took that drive many, many times back in the 60's, I lived in Cool as a young 7 year old cowboy. I went to Northside School, traveled over the Old Coolie Bridge down on the Southfork when the new fangled bridge was washed out and lived through the 1960 Forest Hill/Volcano Wild Fire. Cool was The Wheel Saloon and Cafe (owners Ralph and Clairice Hollingsworth) , the small general store w/ postoffice in back and two gas pumps out front...blink and you missed it when you went by. Thanks for the memories!

The Auburn state rec area has some great hiking, including some hikes that are more geared towards getting in cardio quickly without a lot of sightseeing like "training hill."

I went to Coloma in 4th grade as a school field trip when we were learning about the California gold rush. Specifically, Coloma Outdoor Discovery School. I remember that trip a good bit. Even collected a small flake of gold, but I don't know if I still have it. Either way, thought I'd say that.

Local drivers here are like the no others. It’s almost as if they use magic to keep all 4 of their wheels on the ground when they round corners. That 55mph speed limit challenges you to go faster

You're still uploading. Must mean your stuff is away from the flooded parts of California. The infrastructure is getting very tested down there!
