INGREDIENTS :
1½ cups black chickpeas (chana)
350 g Tendli (Ivy gourd)
1 tomato chopped
1 slice onion
1 roasted coconut grated
For the Masala Paste;
5-6 dry red chilies
1 sliced onion
1-2 cloves garlic
1½ tbsp coriander seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
5-6 methi seeds (fenugreek)
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ cup grated coconut
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 small ball of tamarind
TEMPERING :
Few crushed garlic
fresh curry leaves
1 tbsp mustard
METHOD :
Add soaked chickpeas/chana, salt, and water in a cooking pot and cook until 70% cooked on high flame.
Roast all the masala paste ingredients with/without oil on low heat until aromatic (except turmeric and tamarind). Add them to the mixer jar grind them into a coarse paste and keep aside.
Now add, chopped tomato, and sliced onion, (you also can add soaked cashew nuts) and mix well. Cover and cook for 1 minute.
Add ground spice mixture, roasted coconut add salt, and adjust according to taste. Cover and simmer for another 5-6 minutes on low heat.
Tempering; Heat 2-3 tbsp oil, add garlic s, and saute till they turn golden, add mustard seeds and a few curry leaves. saute for a few seconds and then pour it in tendli chana sukka.
Serve hot as a side dish and enjoy!
