I recieved this notice today but i dont have any documents to upload. I was unemployed at the time and filed for PUA on the terms that i had a child at home who could not go to school because of covid and also had a high at risk senior citizen at home. Thats all i signed up for. I even talked to them on the phone ahead of time and they said i was eligible. Now im finding this out. Still have a child at home we are all vacinated but i still take care of my elderly mother as she is handicapped. And still unemployed. I dont have the money to pay that money back. I really dont know what to do here. Any help here would be very much appreciated.

Mail notices have not been received yet and they are no longer paying attention to the EDD in any way. It's not the majority by any means here watching these videos.

I uploaded a job offer letter last Sunday. And yesterday I received a letter from EDD stating that my document met the legal requirements and that no further action is required.. I had been waiting for this job offer letter for 2 months. The company that offered me the job wrote and signed the letter. This was a big stress reliever.. The PUA program helped me a lot during the time of the pandemic (unless my 2019-2020 tax return docs will be rejected by them, and they take all the money back LOL). I was not employed in 2019, I didn’t File. My W2 is my new job beginning 1/2020 . Corona shut It Down completely 3/2020. I was awarded a PUA instead of regular UI. (Not enough hours yet worked loophole) A GOOD ONE 👍🏻! I hope with my w2 and that explanation to edd . Will work… Do you think I need to file 2019? They asked for any time between 1/2019 3/2020. I just can't believe they're doing this now over two months after we've been booted off UI and not actually before getting benefits. I also wonder what will happen with the taxes we already paid on the benefits received if we have to repay anything.

Lots of notices will be hitting on Friday. Lots of folks got a lot more than the $167 and have never complied with documentation and follow ups . I was in my last year in college 2020 but I didn't have a job in 2019, i have proof of email correspondence with employers that received my application and they responded with either possible availability and another job was reviewing a high volume of applicants and there was a delay due to COVID. This was dated around March-April 2020 for both jobs. So then COVID hit and I never heard back from both jobs after that. I put $0 for 2019 income when I first applied for PUA July 2020. My issue is I have no official job offer letter or promise to start a job as they did not offer any response on that, but all I have is proof I applied to these positions and some email communication before the pandemic hit. So I am lost on what docs to provide, all I have are emails and 2020 tax return. I don't understand why one would get approved for PUA (which that's the only one I qualified for) and then have to go through this at the last minute? I would've rather taken care of this July 2020 when I first applied for benefits and got approved, not now.

I guess they were super buried..and decided to make it easier/quicker.. but its true that they made it super easy for people to just file based on nothing other than the idea that possible jobs would exist somewhere had there been no shutdown. People who filed based on thin air shouldn't have been approved so easily. It would be pretty screwed up to expect people to pay interest, or penalties unless they really just filed on some bs. Looks like lotsa people are going to owe edd lotsa $$.

When i go to upload docs its the same form as before and "pending self employment" doesnt require tax returns. What if you were self employed, but it wasn't enough to pay taxes on it, and it was a cash payment.

If it was under $400 then a tax return wasn't required.... You would provide your business license or one of the documents I go over in the video

@@kcloveonaleash Sending both won't hurt - but they care most about seeing the year prior to your unemployment claim start date. I sent my full return since it was easier to upload the whole PDF, but schedule C should be exactly what they need.

Im in the same boat too. The only reason i applied for PUA was because had a child home that could not go to school because of covid and an elderly family member in the home that was high risk. I was in the process of looking for a part time job but didnt get too when this all came down. Now they are telling us if we dont have work history in 2019 we may have to pay the money back. That would be impossible. And why didnt they do a better job of weeding out the claims that may be ineligible and screw this many people over. This is wrong on so many levels its sickening. So i guess if you dont have documents to upload and say no documents on the form the will most likely find you ineligible and you will have to appeal it to be heard and hopefully be granted a waiver.

Lord knows the state is getting more than enough money from all the taxes they are charging us on our gasoline and vehicle registration and yet it dont see any if that money being put to use as promised. Ginny: I’ve read that these docs are to verify you were or were planning on being self-employed. So this is not income verification. This is more to prove that you were not lying about being self-employed. I say this bc some of us were told to put down gross income on the original PUA. I want to know if anyone is getting disqualified bc of actual figures or if this is more of a verification that you were doing the self-employment work and not so much about your net income. This is an important distinction for this particular EDD request. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Upload documents. There would be a reason why you were accepted for pua - the pandemic must have impacted your ability to work in some way otherwise you would not be qualified. Click the timestamp menu for your scenario and view the suggested document ideas.

@@ginnysilver I just cpuldnt fond any work...but they never asked for any documents at all...and after I recieved and a approval letter I was told a card would come and it didn't then they said I was denied and then I kept getting alerts for all the increases etc...but for over a year no answers they just let me certify when i couldn't not...so i dont have any documents so I'm so confused as to why i got some money....they put me through the ringer with all the different auto responses i did get....it was like 2 different people were working my application...all I know is I was denied unemployment just befor the pandemic was here and when the pandemic came I couldnt find anything so someone said to apply for pua and I did....close to a year and a half of trying to find out why bu sending questions I was approved and then denied and their only answer was to send money...kinda like here you go now shut up lol!

This is going to make millions pay back money. We stated my husband hadnt worked and they approved his application. So now what? He was self employed and while receiving foodstamps we used to say he did odd jobs that earned him 300 bucks a month. Can we just write it on a piece of paper? It was always cash.

I would send a written business plan of what was supposed to be your business. Make it a good one, there are really good templates on the internet and put the dates going back to march 2020. I plan on doing that, please keep me posted of what you do and how long does it take for the EDD to get back to you. I honestly think they just want people to send any kind of proof. Guys, read through your docs before uploading, my dum dum bum just uploaded an affidavit with a spelling error, AMB instead of AM, hopefully they will over look this, it was too late and documents can not be changed once you move on to the step after uploading documents. Any way, they are submitted not with a letter from the employer who had intended to employ me before the covid19 restrictions. Good luck everyone!

I was offered a job by my father but when things got worse he decided he couldn't afford to add on another person at the time. For this, do I simply have him write a statement saying pretty much that with a signature? I'm worried EDD is gonna be really difficult with these types of cases despite it being an option when I first signed up and got approved.

Don't worry, you are safe it seems, but that letter of employment is crucial. Find the employer and get a written signed statement of employment offer and CANCELLATION with date/year . Upload that letter. Good luck.

@@char3414 It looks like it would be ok. Signed, typed up neatly, with contact information to the family who usually hired you. Remember to specifically state that you lost the job due to Covid-19 and make this very clear. You'll be okay.

@@backpain100 seems like you know whats going on.. my claim was based on the job I lost when shutdown happened. My claim ran out in Nov 20. I refiled and got the extensions all the way until the end, in sept.. but just received the request for docs. I never filed a claim self-employment earnings..I worked in 19, and the first few months of 20 until shutdown. Edd switched me ext.tier2 or something..I don't think I ever had a "PUA" claim.. I uploaded my w2 for 20..and paystubs from 19 cuz I couldn't find the w2. Does it make sense that I was put on a PUA?

I am confused what EDD what to see from people? They want to see your income before you apply for unemployment or they want to see that you was looking for job or you lost your income before you apply for unemployment.

Hi Ginny! You have been such a huge help through all of this. Up until last week I never received a request for proof of documentation nor did I see it online where you can click the link to upload the docs. I was told in the letter that I failed to provide docs and therefore was disqualified. I was freaking out. I've been self employed for decades. I got ahold of a Tier 2 associate who told me where to mail in the hard copies and also suggested I upload the documents. I don't know how long the mail will take. This was 8 days ago and I had to wait for my accountant to get back in town to provide me with the necessary info to send. Now I see absolutely no place in my online account where to upload my docs of proof. I desperately want to do this so they have proof ASAP. Is there anyway to do it? I seriously cannot believe they never sent me a letter and I was very diligent in checking my online account for the request to send in proof. Any help would help would be much appreciated.

I plan on using Abobe Scan for tax docs. Then for biz bank statements, I will send files I already have saved on my computer (1) Jan. and (1) December to save on the number of files. Hopefully these file types will be acceptable. I was told the scans are more legible compared to a camera. I hope all of these file types will work. Good luck everyone!

Did you file a 1099? You gotta have some documentation. If its legit, send proof. Any proof you were self employed.

I got no ideal how to have those documents I applied, I stated very honestly. Non 18 month work history Non self employnent, business lisence, gig worker or liscense contractor. I usually do as handyman and Grass cutting. deal all cash medical insurance. I did not report income tax in last 7 years still now. dont judge!! I barely made enough living. I stated $0 income in 2019 sch C I am unemploy in pamdamic. locked down no job and work. I used to worked 20 to 30 hours a week. I called EDD and got approved after interview.

This is not a judgement, but rather honest details to avoid you having tax fraud penalties which are quite serious. I understand it is very hard making ends meet when you are self employed. All cash if you earn overr $400 per year is self employment income and you would be required to file it on a tax return. claiming government benefits when you did not follow the tax filing rules is quite a big risk in many ways. I would recommend you file your taxes. But, the EDD does list many other documents they would accept as proof which I read in this video - receipts, an affidavit stating you were self employed, a business license, etc.

We need some clarification about who that affidavit needs to be from. Because if it is from us, why would that not just be a form letter on the EDD site we just electronically sign?

Hi Ginny, I found a job at a restaurant before the shut down and the job was rescinded. The business near my home was closed for good, and I don't know how to find the manger but I think the owner has another restaurant in another city. I don't know if the owner is willing to help me or not, but I will try anyway. Should I ask the boss to write a statement explaining the situation or should I ask the boss to write an affidavits for me? It was an verbal offer back then. I am so confused on what my options are? Claiming government benefits based on income that wasn't claimed with the IRS if you earned over $400 is not wise - a tax return is required if you earn over $400 per year net in self employment income. If this is your situations n, I would recommend filing your taxes owed so you don't get in trouble/penalties with the IRS and sending the return. However, the eDD does state that they accept receipts business license, affidavit, and other documents.

I do Central Casting work here in Hollywood but took time off to go back to college. I was about to get back into it to regenerate my cash flow but then the pandemic hit, cancelling all film production. To get work, I just call into a casting agent and get booked for a production. I received this notice earlier today and I'm freaking the hell out because I never applied for, or was on a PUA claim. I was employed before covid and I filed a regular UI claim which was extended as a PEUC followed by a PEUX or something. I don't know....they all blend together at this point. At any rate, I was never self employed, and the EDD knows this because I had to provide my prior work history when I applied for my initial claim in the first place. So why are they pestering me for proof of employment surrounding a PUA claim? It doesn't make any damn sense. What the hell am I supposed to do? I don't want to upload anything as requested because I didn't have a PUA, but this doesn't feel like something I can just ignore. I'm an absolute wreck because of this and I need this resolved or I'm going to go nuts.

Just send your tax return. It proves your work history and you are all set. Many has PUA as an extension briefly before peuc was extended. It is not a big deal, simply upload and done.

You likely got PUA for awhile. It may be that EDD needs to submit this info to the Feds and EDD is unable to extract it from their files, so they make us send a duplicate. Just upload the proof of prior work that qualified you for regular UI, check their instructions, and you are done. Rule Number 1 of EDD: Nothing EDD does make sense!! The more nonsensical the idea, the more likely EDD will adopt it. Best, JM 🙂🙃🙂🙃

They need proof of the time you were working, yes. This is a federal requirement. Send you tax return to document that you worked before your claim.

Did you receive this notice? If you receive this notice just send them your work verification - easiest would be your tax return. You are qualified if you had employment plans that couldn't happen, you just need to send your tax return if they ask.

Following. I also had plans to go back to work as my youngest was to begin school, but then distance learning. I have no tax return for 2019 as I was doing odd jobs for family for very little income, looking for something more once my child was in school. Family I did odd jobs for died of covid. In still devastated by the loss, overwhelmed with schooling my kids and am stressed to the teeth by this new paperwork request. My husband and I both lost our mothers last year and emotionally more stress is not something I can handle 😓

@Vega_2022 Go back to your employer and demand a W-2, assuming you were an employee. I believe they are required to provide it under federal law. If you were supposed to file taxes based on the amount of income you earned, you are not excused because of the employer's errors. Did you get paystubs? You are expected to keep a record of your gross earnings. Did your employer take out taxes or pay into unemployment? I suggest you file asap your state and federal taxes for whatever years are missing, and pay the taxes & penalties. Otherwise, the IRS may go after you, and they're not nice when they do. Good luck on sorting this out.

I worked for 2 app based companies such as doordash, Uber but not for too long and the income made was very low for each of them and my pay check stubs were app based too for 2019 _2020. I worked less than $3000 for 2019! I never got physical pay check stubs and was told they are not required to send 1099! Am I considered as self employed? I'm confused? My mom filed for self employed for baby sitting her grandson and she qualified for PUA and received payments from 2/14/21 - 9/13/21 Now she needs to file proof of employment status for her pandemic unemployment assistance claim from 1/1/20 - 1/17/21 If she was getting paid cash by baby sitting at home. Do you know if it’s just for people who claimed self employment? Or is it for everyone on PUA?? Cause you can get PUA for lack of work history so u wouldn’t be eligible for normal UI benefits but they gave me PUA since I couldn’t get another job because of covid 19 and I only received 167$ the whole time since I hadn’t worked in 18 months. I’m just confused if I’m going to have to send anything into the edd and what would I send if I hadn’t work in 18 months. I never claimed self employment either. Any advice thank u 😊
