UPDATE! I have now been steered to a COMPLETE version of this classic. It's a bit fuzzy and the ratio is wrong - but if you download it and show it in 16:9 it should be right. In the public interest, I am giving my "rival" a free plug! You can find it on • Cab Calloway Minnie ... - But I DO have a complete version of Cab's reading of "Blues In The Night" from the same period - you can find THAT on • Cab Calloway - "Blues ... Enjoy!

Not to put a damper on such an extraordinary performance, but while I love watching these brilliant musicians and Cab Calloway perform, still struggle to comprehend how so many millions of Americans cherished their music, listening to them on radios as families, watching them perform on live tv, in theaters, with all of their contributions to Jazz, Big Band, Swing to Dance and Orchestra. Yet enough American's were at the same time COMPLICIT in upholding the state and federal laws that reminded these elegantly impeccably dressed and polished men, once they stepped off the stages and glittering lights into the shadows, they were required to use the back door to an alley. Same exit as the food delivery and garbage. Unable to celebrate the nights performance in fancy restaurant or nightclub like other celebrities of the era. Knowing behind those big happy smiles, when the cameras stopped, ALL were segregated and forbidden from attending or entering public schools and universities, public parks, theaters, restaurants, bus and train stations, restrooms, building entrances, elevators, cemeteries, amusement-park cashier windows, public pools, phone booths, hospitals, asylums, jails and retirement homes for the elderly and handicapped. 80 years later we are still witnessing Jim Crow era violence and not just the Deep South but in the northern cities.

Don't forget that the entertainment industry was still considered very low-brow employment at this time. Same thing with Jews who could make millions producing movies and owning studios in Hollywood, but were still not welcome at the country clubs. All of it was employment "Not fit for men of high moral caliber".

I saw Cab Calloway perform in the nightclub of a hotel i😂n New Jersey in the 1960s. I had a ringside table so close, I could have reached out and touched his toes. He was getting older and he worked so hard doing his show, always needing to use his handkerchief because he was sweating so much. But he was still very good. Still gave a wonderful performance. It would have been so easy to get to meet him and get his autograph, but i don't know why I didnt. Maybe was feeling shy. My music arranger Howard Hodge told me he used to do arrangements for Cab's daughter Chris Calloway. 😊😂😮❤ In new Loway

Love the way he moves and sings. I also love that he stood up for his chocolate bunnies at the Cotton Club. All or nothing. Of course he won. I watched a documentary on him at 25 yrs old and fell in love. How couldn’t you?

On this day in 1967 {March 19th} Cab Calloway performed "Minnie The Moocher" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... He first recorded the song in 1931 and it became his signature tune... In 1980 he appeared in the movie 'The Blues Brothers' and also performed the song in the movie... He also titled his 1976 autobiography 'Minnie the Moocher and Me'... R.I.P. Mr. Calloway {1907 - 1994} and Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}...

Love this song; I am not the youngest person: what I miss is the third verse. Let's remember that Cab wrote this song about his sister; he didn't exactly approve of her behavior regarding alluring rich males: she was astonishingly beautiful.... Hey, I would write a song about my sister if that was the way she could hear the message or to simply see herself as she was behaving.

This is not in the wrong aspect ratio. It's in the 4:3 aspect ratio (well, 1.37:1 to be exact, known as Academy standard) that almost all American films used until wider formats were introduced in the '50s. When TV was introduced it adopted a very slightly narrower format (1.33:1) that was standard until the beginning of this century.
