Such a beautiful line as always! From the slopes of Etna to Catania, a wonderful journey winds along the basalt and lava rocks with small old and new generation DMUs. I knew the line that goes from Randazzo to Riposto on the other side. Luckily the line has been modernized. Years ago I had seen a rare video of a first cabride in the 90s in which the line was in pitiful conditions. This is the sad situation of railway equipment in Italy. The rolling stock is often lacking, ruined tracks, little maintenance: this is the reflection of the regional lines in Italy, especially in Southern Italy. Here, fortunately, being close to a large and dense metropolitan area, something has changed. There is talk of extending the Catania Metro or creating a suburban train-tram system on the model of the Spanish Cercanias. Let's hope so! Man YOU ARE CRAZY! You even did the Circumetnea! A beautiful line! you amazed me! Until the 1980s, Sicily was full of freight lines, especially for the unloading of minerals, but now they are all abandoned. It would also be nice to do the Palermo-Agrigento line along the Platani valley, which is one of the few electrified lines in the interior. Or the old route of the Palermo-Caltanissetta-Catania, also an electrified line, but an old line that needs renovation. We eagerly and gratefully await all lines in Europe now! Well!

A railway line that was previously unknown to me - captured in the film in the best weather and with many Mediterranean impressions such as black volcanic rock and interesting vegetation 👍 Nevertheless, two questions that you or one of your viewers might be able to answer: 1.) On the side of the route you can see many abandoned ruins where only the walls are still standing... Were these perhaps former railway buildings such as stations or gatekeepers' houses? 2.) The rails were painted white on the sides almost along the entire route!? Possibly to prevent overheating in summer? I read before that temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees, especially on the south coast 🙄 It was another cinematic pleasure 🙏 unfortunately somewhat marred by vibrations during the entire journey at higher speeds - perhaps from the camera or a part on the outside of the railcar 🤔 But what's the name of an old Rolling Stones song: "You Can't Always Get What You Want"! 😄😄 Many greetings 🖖

@wandajackson3410 Thank you very much for your comment. I am not sure about the abandoned buildings, but I guess they are former railway buildings..and the white colour, someone answered that before, it is to prevent overheating.

Thank you for an extremely interesting video, though scenically the line was not quite as good as I expected. But what I found amazing was that an enormous amount of money has obviously been spent on modernising the line (though no sign of electrification) but, despite passing through some quite sizeable towns, there were very few passengers! And the service appears to be a handful of trains a day. (See European Rail Timetable table 644.)

I have just finished the trip (very beatiful landscape, truly entertaining), but I have to make some points about the infrastructure: 1) the 'grandeur' showed by small stops and stations, an excess, considering the low passenger traffic; 2) the slow pace of the trains (max 45 Km/h), when we have seen that other lines (notably the RhB) can do more with a metric gauge, even at higher altitude; 3) the unsettling presence in a very active seismic place of long tunnels. I am not sure local authorities judged rightly in rebuild a historic railway this way.

In teory the project is to extend the actually Catania's metro beetween the city airport and Adrano. From the city centre to Adrano the line has/will replace the Circumetnea line. Until Paternò it will be a totally new infrastrucutre and beetween Paternò and Adrano they will reconvert to standard gauge all the bypass tunnel wich were be build to be part on the metro line. The line has been financed until Paternò with the next generation EU, that means that until june 2026 construction must end. For the rest of the metro nobody knows.
@danidandi81077 ай бұрын
(I decided to separate facts and opions) I totally disagree the project, metro have sense in an urban area because they have a high frequencty and a lot of stops. In a contest like the one of circumetnea it has totally no sense, you need a suburban service. Another thing I don't understand is the need of building again an infrastructure that already exist, I beleive is a waste of public resources.
