The “Broom’s Lead” may not be in a few years. I think the city wants to turn it into a rail trail and have the trains go farther down the NS mainline and turn off somewhere near Anderson St. to connect up with the ACWR again.

11:58 is where you can see the former R-Line lead through Uptown It's what the city used for the Lynx line.

NS can use the old intermodel yard now for the RBBB when it comes to town, it would keep the yard clear.

Great video! Why was intermodal moved out to airport?
@FNGFASHA5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Kennedy the old yard was on the same property of the regulator yard, which in in downtown Charlotte and highly congested with vehicular traffic. With a grant, thet were able to create an inland port.

Could Aberdeen reopen that old INTERMOBILE yard again (In 2019 wash and Oregon has federal grants to start truck to rail Transloads Facilities ....shorelines have that neat we will run a trains... attitude......This SHORTLINE is neat

Probably not. Since NS has the large intermodal yard at the airport. But they have a nice trans load operation in oakboro NC now.

@@FNGFASHAI got lost near the airport.And crossed over that yard by bridge.Looked like a near operation.I have family that lived near CSX yard in Charlotte.I was there by a store.And walked up to a waiting train. Engineer invited up into the locomomotive.Turned out to be the first dash 9 locoomotives.He was headed to Hamlet NC.I live in Monroe NC BTW.

What is a "slug?" Is a kind of tender for the engine, or is it powered?
@FNGFASHA10 жыл бұрын
The NS locomotive # 927 you see in the video at time mark 36:42 is a slug. A powered locomotive, that does not have a cab on it. It has to be controlled remotely or when attached to another locomotive.

What is the deal with the NS Intermodal Yard?
@FNGFASHA9 жыл бұрын
+MrCsxtrain The intermodal yard was moved to the Charlotte airport between two runways, too give it more space. I have two videos of it, here is one I took from an airplane window: Charlotte Norfolk Southern Intermodel from the Air... and this one from the ground: Railfanning the Norfolk Southern Intermodal Yard Under an agreement with Federal Government and the US Port Authority, NS is renting space between two runways, it is really cool! The taxi lanes for one runway goes over the intermodal rails. The old yard is being turned into a hub that will service Amtrak, CATS commuter trains and buses.
