Loved this video as usual! soooo relaxing and what a beautiful day! I haven't noticed before that when you are going slow it sounds like apache war drums and when you speed up it sounds like a steam train, the chug chug! anyway I enjoyed and waiting the next place that you take us!

You did well to get across Woking Junction without being checked to a stand. Woking box is nicknamed "the crucible" for good reason by a lot of crews.

Haha! I didn’t know about the nickname, but I can empathise. Maybe I just got lucky this time!

Great video! Not sure if you cover these areas, but are you able to make any videos of the Windsor/Reading lines, the Hounslow or Kingston loops, Shepperton, Chertsey or Frimley branches? I'm trying to gather some research for route building a train sim route and there's nothing recent available on those lines. The only thing I have is from 2005!

Thanks. I’ll add it to the wanted list once cab access is easier 👍🏻

I always assumed the whole of the southern region was electrified, I’m surprised by how much isn’t. All down to cost I guess, and how busy the stations are.
@emmo9993 жыл бұрын
There has been some gap filling over the years, East Grinstead line and Redhill-Tonbridge for example. But there is still a fair bit of mileage with no juice

Great video. Those tampers rattle and bang about quite a bit - rather like the old electric trains I used to ride in 50 years ago.

The spur from Shalford to the site of Peasmarsh Junction never had track laid on it.
@richardashby56443 жыл бұрын
It’s abandonment was part of rivalry between the railway companies. The South Eastern Railway which built the line to Reading hoped to use the Portsmouth Direct to get to Portsmouth. But before the latter was completed it was snapped up by the LSWR which denied any access to the SER so the spur couldn’t be used.
@emmo9993 жыл бұрын
Yes, I realise this now. Dennis Pocock has also commented saying it. Unfortunately, bit late to amend the captions once the film is encoded. But thanks for the history behind the abandonment
@dennispocock83693 жыл бұрын
The spur at Shalford to go direct towards Portsmouth was never completed. The earthworks were completed but that's as far as it got.
@emmo9993 жыл бұрын
Ah that’s interesting to know, I thought the spur was completed. Thanks for the correction 👍🏻

That thing rattles and clatters about doesn't it. What's the maximum speed for one of those running solo? 60?
@emmo9993 жыл бұрын
Yes, 60mph. For working reasons, they have quite hard suspension, which means they don’t get the luxury of air suspension like passenger stock
