Peter Adler's joyful, jewel box of a home in London's Notting Hill is a rare treat, overflowing with treasures and a glorious expression of everything the designer and collector holds dear.
"It’s very hard to know why you’re attracted to something and not something else," he says. "Everybody’s taste is just as valid as everybody else’s, it’s just their taste, so you can’t say ‘that’s in good taste’ or ‘that’s in bad taste’, all you can say is ‘I like that’ and ‘I don’t like that. Why you like it, or why you don’t like it, is a mystery.”
Join us for a tour of this unforgettable space, captured by Luca Cepparo.

His commentary on on good taste vs bad taste was so refreshing and democratic. What a delightful man and what a wonderful film, Cabana‼️❤️

Initially, I was really overwhelmed with the amount of objects crammed into a small space and it was a real assault on the senses. Then I felt a great comfort in what I am witnessing as a viewer. I think in recent years we have become used to a vacuum of artificially curated spaces where everything is tidied away and displayed and it becomes very uniform and sterile. This is the complete opposite and you know what, I really enjoyed this refreshing, unvarnished piece of film. I got to know the collector behind the objects, and the real story, rather than an over polished narrative. I particularly enjoyed the flags and the symbolism involved. Thanks Cabana for making me think, and learn something new. You always have a refreshing take on what you realise in the World. Thank you,

I thought this was a shop and I was going to make sure next time I visit Londen I'd pay it a visit and hopefully buy a few treasures. Alas, it's his home! Incredible. The flags are absolutely gorgeous.

This guy is amazing! He’s got a keen eye and depth of knowledge only achieved through experience, hard work and appreciation for craftsmanship regardless of medium. Gorgeous jewelry and arrangements are equally dazzling and the Ghanan flags are fantastic. Such a cool dude too. 😊❤️

A bit overwhelming because of the amount of items but so many beautiful objects I understand why he collected them. It would be difficult to say, "no," especially to those flags.

I think I broke out in hives when I saw how full of objects his place was...but....I loved it. ( I have almost nothing around my home). His passion for searching and finding and displaying new things was palpable and infectious. And the OCD part of my self immediately wondered..."how does he catalog all of this material and then insure it...?"

This was very enlightening in the sense that we got to know a bit about the collector behind the objects and his many collections are indeed extremely lovely. That said, I must confess that it all came dangerously close to a hoarder's den at one point. Some of those items, the gorgeous African flags and other textiles for instance, would be better served and preserved being properly framed instead of folded and piled amid a sea of other stuff. Perhaps he ought to be a tad more selective about what he actually has on display while still maintaining that cozy 'cluttered chic' vibe.

I’m just wondering if any of this was ever stolen originally and then re-sold and resold and then talk to this man

What treasures!!!! So you’re saying the Fante were collaborators and the British used their small numbers to conquer the Asante! Ok got it. Colonial crimes. Check.

As long as it’s kept clean and dusted and spider free, I’m OK with it. If it’s dusty and musty, then, yuck.
