That was criminally too short. I could listen to him and look at his space for a long time.

There is another wonderful clip by House & Garden ‘Design Notes’ where RK talks about his collection. Only about 8 minutes but well worth it.

I lived in Cairo for a short time and felt exactly as he did, there is almost a feeling of timelessness where it just doesn't exist. Anytime you wake up whether it be early or late ... is always the perfect time. Existence in the present was such a beautiful experience ... I miss it!

What an interesting man! My first thought was that every human should be so lucky to have a leather chair as worn in and loved as his red one was. That speaks of hours spent reading and enjoying life.

I am sitting in the twin brother of that worn leather chair. For real. That man is amazing. It’s all about color and atmosphere.

Even when he describes his childhood and the financial troubles his mother ran into he makes it all sound so charming. Just dealing antiques on his way to and from school. 💁‍♀️

So much in my house and collections is influenced by Mr Kime, he was someone I longed to meet and talk with. I just received the catalogue of the sale to get a better look at his collections. What he says abour Egypt I experienced with India, a place I long to go back to and where like Mr Kime I picked up so many beautiful ancient artifacts. Sitting on a giant boulder over looking the river in Hampi with several dogs and some monkeys watching the sun set was an incredible moment. Buying some treasures found by the kids in the river mud, being blessed in the temple. I was married there by my husbands uncle, a Brahmani priest. So many memories.

Lucky, charming man with a great life, and left the world right before the age range where the brain is guaranteed to regress, contract and thus dementia sets in, so I say he timed it as good as the rest of his life.

Its all about colour says he, against a red wall that speaks of ox blood, carnations, and spices from distant and ancient lands. Can anyone please enlighten me as to that paint ? I am looking to paint my wall too in that colour, in memory of him.

Human nature is to collect beautiful things. Unfortunately it is also the nighmare of archeologists. Beautiful thing without a context can not help to understand the past.
