THIS IS A REUPLOAD. My first one got blocked after a week of being on my page. When I first uploaded it, I initially disputed it because it was immediately demonetized, but the video wasn't blocked. They decided to reject my dispute AND PROCEED TO BLOCK MY VIDEO :) :) :) So, now we're here. Thank you for being here if you already watched it previously.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."George Santayana It's good that this musical has resurfaced lately, unfortunately it's much needed still.

Crazy thing I learned is director Bob Fosse didn't want Joel Gray to reprise his role of the Emcee from Broadway and when he did end up in the role Bob was going to cut all of his scenes, but a lot of studio people weren't going to let him and Joel won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. While Liza Minnelli (Judy Garland's daughter) won for Best Actress and the film also won for Best Picture, Director and a bunch of others.

It did NOT win Best Picture. The Godfather did that year, but Cabaret did win 8 Oscars that year...

This was such a classic! I was 8 when this came out. Never forgot it. Spent most of my life working in the entertainment industry. Now, at 60, my back is shot, but hey - just because I can't do lighting and video anymore, I can still love musicals! Oh and just in case you didn't know, "Sally" (Liza Minelli) is Judy Garland's daughter. And you know who Judy Garland is. :)

One of the grittiest musicals I've seen, I love it! Sorry youtube banned your first video :/

VERY gritty and it always burned me they cut one of the central plot lines from the stage version in the film adaptation

This is Liza's best film. You should watch her mother's best movie, 1954 A Star Is Born. It was, i believe, the first major restoration.

Joel Gray, the emcee, is the real-life father of Jennifer Gray. Jennifer starred as 'Baby' ("No one puts 'Baby' in the corner!") in "Dirty Dancing" with Patrick Swayze; she also played sister Jeanie Bueller in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Michael York was everything American women loved in the 1960s & 1970s: young, handsome, sexy, British... He starred in "Logan's Run", "Lost Horizon", "The Island of Dr Moreau", and both Musketeer movies, among many others. Most people born in the 1980s and after only know him as Basil Exposition, from the Austin Powers franchise.

Didn't know that about Jennifer Gray - but do remember Joel guest starring in a good episode of Star Trek: Voyager.

@@paulhammond6978 I recall seeing that episode when it was first broadcast; great acting. I always thought Jennifer had a unique beauty, much like Barbra Streisand. A shame that Jennifer got her nose 'fixed'; it was a perfection that made her look quite ordinary. She was still beautiful, but she lost a certain distinctiveness, and it impacted her ability to land acting jobs.

"Plenty o' Nuttin'" is an anachronism: we're in 1931, and the phrase comes from George Gershwin's *Porgy and Bess,* which didn't appear until 1935. Call out the Dresden Northwest Mounted from 1933's *Pardon My English* (which opened in January, the same month Hitler was appointed Chancellor). They always get their man!

31:03 Its interesting that there was for a short period during the nazi era there was still a pretty gay scene in Berlin among the burlesque theater. The majority of the nazis shown in this film where also part of the Brownshirts who where more the working class socialist section of the nazis compared to the upper class elites in the SS, in fact there where several homosexuals in the Brownshirts most notably Ernst Rhom, they where only tolerated for a short period until Hitler had the brownshirts purged because of the gay and communist elements among them, weirdly enough Rhom and Hitler where best friends until he had him murdered.

An incredibly poignant and incredibly relevant film. The rise of fascism is a terrifying reality to watch repeat, and I hope somehow it can be stomped out this time.
