Good morning Miss Brenda. Glad to see your sweet face and your soft voice this morning. Praying for all of those who have been devastated by these two last hurricanes. God bless them and be with them comfort them and provide all their needs in Jesus name amen. 😇🙏🩸🕊️🩸🙏😇 You are absolutely so right Miss Brenda that's the way I was raised to get out of the house and don't come back till the street lights are on; then you better be in the yard.! 😀 It was a whole lot of fun. We used to take blankets out side and clothespins and build great big tents with sticks for poles to hold the blankets up; and stay up all night talking laughing giggling and having a blast. Sometimes the neighborhood kids would come over the whole backyard would be fully neighborhood kids camping out in the blanket tents.!

I’ve made this dish for a long time also. Mine calls for sour cream in place of the mayonnaise. You’re right, this dish is so good. Seeing your smiling face lifted my spirits this morning. I live near some of the counties that experienced devastation from Helena, but here we had high winds and heavy rain. We did lose power for 2 days due to trees on power lines but our hearts ache for the lives and homes lost in the mountains of North Carolina. Pray for these people. They will need help for a long time.

I am so happy I saw this video this afternoon. We read to our boys everyday when they were babies. My husband read the newspaper to them in the mornings and I read books and the bible stories to them at night. They grew to be smart young men. My youngest has 2 masters degrees and the oldest is a systems analyst.

Ms Brenda my grandson with my daughter and son in law moved in when he was 6 months old. They’re building a house. I’m having the best time playing and singing and reading to him. We stomp like an elephant around the house. I started with flash cards when he was 9 months old. You think he isn’t getting any information because he loves to spread them from one of the house to the other. But he is. Recently, I purchased musical books that play classical music while you read the stories and we dance to the songs. He just loves them! We whisper together out on the porch about the birds and the trees he loves it and cry’s if I go outside on the porch without him! Oh and he loves to cook with me!!! He’s now 16 months. My house is really going to be empty when their home is finished!!! What a lucky little fellow he is that we all three read to him off and on all day. He brings us his books!!! I recently had taken him to a little airport to see them take off. Now when he hears them he points up and says airpane!!! LOL I can’t imagine never having this experience with him! It’s truly a blessing!!!❤ He and I are going to make this casserole tonight they got two small cabbages yesterday from their CSA. Have a blessed day Ms Brenda❤

My brother and I played with doodlebugs. They are actually an ant lion larva, they grow into something like a dragonfly. We liked to put a little stick down in the hole and watch it push the stick out. It wanted an ant or something to eat. Funny thing to us. We played outside everyday. Gone are those days. My Mama told me many times,"Life gets harder by the mile",and I learned it did. Some things I see now I just have to shake my head at...there is nothing I can do about them. But we are all here to learn these lessons. And we have to know God knows what He's doing. He is always working in His children's lives. Because He loves us,and wants our love in return. Your recipe looks really good. I would have to reduce it down a lot smaller but I think I can. You have a wonderful day,too...and a good night's sleep after! May God bless you.
@Codered8102 күн бұрын
We would stir the holes with a tiny stick while chanting " house on fire, house on fire. Bring some milk and bread" my mother told us that chant is what brought the doodle bugs to the surface. 😂
@janh519Күн бұрын
I loved chanting over the doodlebugs! It always seemed to get them excited and they would begin to rise to the surface. I really enjoyed watching them coming up to the top of the ground, always inside our barn, as we chanted, “Doodle bugs, doodle bugs come out of your hole!” They always started coming to the surface of the dry powdered soil.

I am 73. We lived out in the country. There were doodle bugs! And we played marbles. We played in mud puddles. I stepped on a bubble bee! It hurt! No one ever read to us. We did not have books. I am always looking for new vegetable sides for Thanksgiving. We have all time favorite dishes of course like sweet potatoes, broccoli rice and green bean casserole and dressing etc. but I just like to change it up sometimes. Some of my family don't like sweet potatoes so I make mashed potatoes or hashbrown casserole. I worry about everybody having a full plate and don't want anybody to go away hungry. Anyway, cabbage casserole has just made its way to Thanksgiving Dinner at my house. I'll do Brussel Sprouts at Christmas! My grown kids always say I am making too much but I always see them lining up making themselves a plate or 2 or 3 to take home leftovers. LOL Thank you again for sharing your recipes to take to our dinner table too. Blessings from Louisiana. ❤

P.S. Ms. Brenda, we have so many small things in common, but there is a life-changing situation my husband and I share, just as you and your beloved George did. My husband was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia back in January. He seems to be declining much more rapidly than we expected. He told me to run away from him as fast as I could. I told him I had always run towards him, never away, and that was not about to change after 50 years of marriage filled with love. He cried. When I look at you I feel a kinship and a hope I can't explain. I see you doing all the things I do now, without your husband. Maybe I can do that too, you know?
