I just bought one of these dehydrators. I've been doing some tests on this particular model, and I noticed that there is a temperature variation anywhere from five to seven degrees. I have another Cabela's dehydrator that is one step down from this model, and the temperature reads as perfect.

Supposedly the top temperature is 160 degrees on both of them. On the big one, the very biggest one that they have I noticed that there is a about a 5 to 7 degree temperature variation (shows lower with an independent thermometer then it does for the temperature gauge that is built into the dehydrator)for at least a couple of hours. After that, it seems to be okay.

I did get one of this this year 2022. You give great information on cleaning the unit. FYI there is a recall on the 2016 units sold during August. Has the 165 temp issue been addressed? For solid meats it's not critical but for Jerky made with ground meat from grocery stores, that 165 temp is important due to possible contamination during processing. Any recommendations on BPA free inserts for smaller food items? Thanks

Hello Van. I bought a small cabinet at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for putting my Cabela's 160 liter dehydrator on. I know you said that you had yours on a 16in stand. If I put this on the cabinet it will be 70in tall. That is ok for me. Mine is still in the box. Could you please measure yours up and tell me if seeing the front control panel at that height will be ok. I don't want to go to all of the trouble of getting it all set up where it needs to go and it not be at a good height. I need to screw 2 - 2x4's on the sides and then ad plywood to the top. This will give me 3 drawers to put my dehydrating things in. I will wait for your answer before I go much further on this. I think it will work but not sure on reading the digital read out at this height. The cabinet after I put the plywood on top will be 30in tall and the Dehydrator is 40. Does the cord come come out the back on the left, right or in the middle. That way I know where to put my receptacle for the power.

I had to replace the control board last year. But customer service was awesome. I think it ran me around $50. Easy to replace too. Yeah very good investment.

Hey Van! The Cabelas looks similar to the Weston. I think yours goes up to 160 degrees, does yours hit that temp and are you able to maintain a consistent temp for very long? On my Weston once I got about 160 I lose about 5 or 6 degrees in about 20 seconds. Im not sure if my Weston is defective or not and was wondering if your Cabela was the same. Thanks

Love your videos, looking @ getting this dehydrator...Cabela's is saying to finish in the oven @165 for 30 minutes---is that just CYA for them? I cant imagine going from the dehydrator to the oven

+Larry Kapigian that’s what USDA says has to be done. So Cabelas is just covering their tails. I have done this before and it completely changes the flavor and texture in a bad way.

This looks like an obsolete unit. There is a new 80L and 160L Cabela's Commercial Food Dehydrator out now. Hopefully fixing the issues you pointed out.

I would think so. Mine reached 165 quick. My advice is try letting your jerky and marinade sit out on your counter till it warms up to 50 to 60 degrees. This will shorten the time it takes your dehydrator to reach peak temps. Hope this helps. Have a great day. 👍😁

I just looked at it and noticed the trays aren't stainless.. =( I need stainless since I do use the dishwasher for my trays and drying...

EyeCanShoot yeah the racks are the only set back. I've tried to find plastic trays. No luck. I looked into getting them teflon coated. I got a quote for $380. I passed. I could buy a new Dehydrator for that price. After 3 years they have held up pretty good. And using dishwashing liquid cleans them pretty good. Just one pass with a brush and their clean.

That is true. The do sell replacement racks. Last time I checked they were $5 each. Stainless racks would be way better, I agree. I recently bought the pitboss series 7 smoker. And it makes way better jerky in only 5 hours from start to finish. pitbossgrills.77jaha.net/knBjd

Im not sure about about any other brands.. This commercial one froom cabelas worked great.. No complaints at all. But shipping might be an issue. I went to cabelas and picked this one up.. hey buddy.. Thats awesome. Your gonna love it.. I kept the temp cranked up to 165. The time varies depending on how much you put in the dehydrator.. My rule of thumb is to start checking it every hour after it has been on for 5 hours.. Id love to try your jerky one day if you want to send some my way lol..
