Cabin Air Filter Replacement Nissan Leaf | How-To

In today's video, I change the cabin air filter in my 2015 Nissan Leaf SL. The replacement air filter was a recommendation to a problem I've been having with fogging windows.
UPDATE: Since doing the cabin air filter replacement in this video, I have noticed a considerable improvement to my foggy window situation. And this, despite, actually not doing the cleaning I mention in the video yet. Going to tackle that next and see if I can get it even better.

Worked on a 2016 Leaf. Filter cover is hard to reach below glove box and beyond side panel but video shows that side panel is not removed. Great! Video clearly also shows orientation of filter cover because when mine popped out the orientation was not clear. Also shown is that end of filter needs to be squeezed to fit into slot, then expands inside. Very nice video, thank you.

Thank you for the step by step video. No need to remove glove compartment. Such a kooky set up for the filter. The Canadian Tire replacement part has thicker pleats. You need to do some neck and shoulder stretching first or hire a contortionist. Very hard to reach in to get to the filter tabs and filter. Very much appreciate the detail.

Nice job. They wanted $70 to replace it for my wife's 2015 Nissan Leaf SL. Your video was super helpful. The slot that the filter is in is WAY further forward than you think even after watching Derek's video. He is right, the tab end is at the bottom and the notched end fits at the top. Wow, crazy that he would design it this way--clearly not for the people who do the maintenance. The pressure taps and first cover came off easily. I put mine in the same way as the one that was in there--so the arrow was pointing toward the cabin compartment. I hope that was right. I reviewed your video again and you did say that the arrow faced the cabin so mine went in correctly.

Derek, with the way your windshield looked, I have to ask if it's more prone to fogging in the summer or hot weather ? I swear it looked as if you had condensation from somewhere. I'd first check the drain for the A/C (underhood) to see if it was clogged and holding moisture in the air box. Then when it gets hot, it evaporates and collects on the windshield. Just a thought brother...

Appreciate you taking the time to write and for the thought. The day I shot this video was much colder than it looks (about 5 degrees Celsius), so don't think it is heat related. It happened pretty consistently prior to changing the air filter. Hasn't done it since. Not saying that will solve 100% of fogging windshields, but it's a good place to start :)

Good video. Check n clear the drains around windscreen. Also check strut mounts and rubbers the water sits in the strut mounts. Cover with rubber glove or plastic cap.

You didn't say enough about the direction of airflow. It's not obvious which way the air flows in the air box.

The airflow goes into the cabin. So point the arrow on the filter towards the interior

Filter is absurdly, cruelly inaccessible. Much more difficult than two previous cars I've owned. Took me more like 30 minutes, but success in the end. Never could have changed it without this video, so thank you.

Just beware! I hate the design of this. It needs the air filter being compressed to get in the hole, and we have no idea if the air filter was fully expanded inside. My previous air filter was not definitely folded inside and I guess the air just bypassed the filter and went straight from outside to inside the cabin for last 2 years!

I agree. A slide in/out filter would be more ideal. However, I was not consulted on the design process at all :)
