I love designing and building cabinets. My very 1st job was in a cabinet shop way back in 1968. I wasn't there long, but long enough to peak my love for woodworking and cabinet making. Oddly though I spent 42 yrs working for my family's concrete contracting company and I retired in 2012. I never lost my passion for woodworking and over the years I accumulated all the tools to furnish a nice shop and woodworking and cabinet making was my avocation for most of those 42 yrs.

Me too! My house was built in 1930. Everything is a weird size, shape, etc. I have so many things to work around that I can't imagine how much it would cost to build what I want. Besides I want to try, I can always hire someone....but trying is all the fun! :)

Hey, great video. I have a question, do you have any reservations about putting particleboard in wet areas such as bathrooms? If so, what steps do you take?

The melamine finish is water resistant. If a raw particle board edge is exposed, it can be caulked or sealed. Thanks for watching, Wes

@Woodworking With Wes awesome to watch you either way. I am working in a 400sqft woodshop and it's small, but I've got a lot of decent tools that are on mobile bases. Our jurisdiction limits us at 900sqft and eventually want to get to that size. You do nice work. Thanks for the reply.

Why do you use mdf? would plywood be okay too? What are the considerations that go into the decisions made? :)

While your skills are excellent, the choice of materials are questionable. When we put in our kitchen we were told that particle board wouldn't stand up to a granite countertop. I truly feel this won't last very long. Staples and melamine aren't exactly "fine cabinetry". I'm sure it's the budget of the customer keeping the quality at this level. Congratulations on the looks of the cabinet's as they look great. Sorry you had to work with such poor materials. Great job.
@WoodworkingWithWes
@WoodworkingWithWes 9 ай бұрын
I am sorry you were given such poor information when you built your kitchen. There are many types of quality material available for kitchen construction. Particle board with a melamine finish is one of them and widely used throughout the cabinet industry. I have never had to replace a cabinet based on the material I used or the construction method I employ because of excessive countertop weight in the 45 years I have been in the business. Thanks, Wes
