In this video I show how I build some neat cabinet handles. I use an easy to cut, yet super duper strong joint called the bridle joint. These are fairly easy to make and will spice up any project needing cabinet hardware.

Dude 1994 was amazing for movies: Leon the professional, Shawshank, In the mouth of madness, clerks, lion king, Speed, hudsucker proxy, renaisance man, reality bites, True Lies, The Crow, Usual Suspects, interview with a vampire, new nightmare, Stargate, maverick, Ed wood, star trek generations, double dragon, clear & present danger...I guess pulp fiction came out, but dang...good year for movies. Also, thank you for prompting me to look at movies of that year to see if you were right about that being a best one. It was a fun ride.

The 1990s in general had amazing films and it was a response to the 1980s PC culture. So hopefully we can a cultural response to the current PC culture. I remember going to see films in the 1990s and not having a clue what they were going to be about. You could get an absolutely stinker or you could come out feeling you just seen something special. FIlms like LA confidential, Seven, Unforgiven, Heat, Silence of the Lambs, The Big Lebowski, Trainspotting, Millers crossing and Carlito's Way are all fantastic 1990s movies that tend to get forgotten. Someday I hope we can go back to films like that.

Very neat idea for handles! I had just this evening been pondering something similar for some drawers I need to make -- similar overall size and shape, squared, with long grain in all 3 parts. But alas, having no band saw, your bridle joint idea might be a bit of a challenge for me. Instead, I thought of joining 3 boards about 10" long like a trough, wide bottom, short sides, with the sides butted so as to cover the wide board's edge. The grain orientation would be running across the trough and up the sides, instead of the length of it. Then another trough with the sides not covering the wide board's edge, but sitting on top of it. Oh, and both troughs ending up the same exact overall dimensions (so the first one has a narrower wide piece and wider side pieces, and _vice versa_ for the other one). Glue up the two troughs using no brads or mechanical fasteners. Now put each trough on the table saw sled, and slice off U-shaped handle pieces that are half the thickness of the boards used in the troughs, like slicing up a loaf of bread. Finally, take a slice from each trough, sand the sawed surfaces flat without rounding the edges (I very much like your adhesive sandpaper stuck on the flat workbench idea), and glue them together, so that the corners have the appearance of half laps. These laminated half lap handles seem like they would be pretty quick to batch out, and with some good sanding before laminating them to erase the saw marks, I bet the glue line would be nearly invisible (depending on how it aligns with the wood grain). And come to think of it, a bridle joint handle would be possible with this method as well -- just cut slices that are 1/3 the thickness of the boards, and laminate 3 pieces (would have to start with one of the troughs twice the length of the other one, to avoid running out of parts).

When I was doing my schooling I had to make my own handles, but that’s because I didn’t have money to buy them & I didn’t want to use knobs. Great finale to the project. The choice of material and the sizing are spot on. I was surprised how relatively simple the construction was, with the heavy lifting done by the band saw. Whouda thunk it? I can even picture a laminated variant (three plies) of these, perhaps, with two types of wood, say maple and cherry.

I'd like them even if they didn't open the doors and drawers. Pulp Fiction - not just one of the better films of 1994, one of the best films of all time. (IMO),

A Tarantino classic - Pulp Fiction, of course. Also - I feel that you would be a great audio book narrator.

The "belt and suspenders kinda gal" line put me in mind of the old Monty Python Lumberjack Song. _He chops down trees. He wears high heels. Suspendees and a braw....?_

really love the handle choice, adding a new material would have detracted and made it look messier. I love how the handles match the top and pull it all together instead of detracting.
