JRjr's first run on x-men is incredible. nimrod era x-men didn't get a lot of hype but the action is great imo. always loved the way he drew nightcrawler, colossus and he drew the best rachel summers hound.

jrjr is a beast I'm slowly realizing. His sound foundation is versatility is key, which can be said of some of the old greats like his dad and John Buscema. I would love to hear you guys' opinions on that early wolverine solo monthly that started with claremont and buscema (another must have essential: Essential Wolverine #1)

He’s top 10 for me - like others always say, he has mastered weight, form and movement like Kirby, Ditko, Adams, Buscema, etc. His work on the Nocenti Dardevil is phenomenal. 💀🔥

The energy in these pages is insane. Although he's always been popular, I'm surprised in retrospect that JRJR wasn't a bigger star in the 90s. These issues encapsulate everything that seemed cool to us 90s kids about Liefeld's art, but they are actually well executed and they really hold up.

I definitely copied some of JRJr's action poses form this mini-series for window paintings of football games I did at a Sports Bar. He's so fundamental it doesn't matter how much of a hurry he's in-- his roughs sketches are in perfect perspective 100% of the time, better than anybody.

Bought issue 1, again, because of this video. 🙂 Regarding the colors, I loved it when it first came out. Looking at it now, I still do, but agree on the things pointed out here. I figured out why I love it: it's already digital color, but it still used the color language of pre-digital comics. So you still see a lot of magenta and cyans when all those colorful stuff even if they already have the means to go beyond it.

JRJR is really fascinating. He's so talented, but he's also SUCH a blue-collar guy. I'm pretty positive he loves comics, but very much sees it as a job, and it creates some really wild dissonance in some of his work, because you'll get books that are literally some of the best art Big Two comics has ever offered, and you'll also get some absolute clunkers, like his work on AVX. Regardless, he's still my all-time fave.

Man, JRJR really brought his A game to this mini-series. I remember being very surprised by how awesome these 2 issues were back in the day. I initially wasnt looking forward to them as Liefeld had moved on to Image and thinking that Romita was the wrong artist for this. I loved his work on Daredevil and Warzone but thought he was a bad fit for Cable. Man, was I wrong- it was like he became a totally different artist and went to a whole new level proving he could do the more popular characters as well as the Image guys. In fact I actually prefer his Cable to Liefeld- he gave form to the characters, the tech, the pads, the world in a way that Liefeld didnt- and brought it all to life in a way Liefeld couldnt. Everything felt more real and looked more exciting. Plus the colouring for this- was superb- the way a superhero comic should look. Also it made me realise that Romita is only awesome when he is being inked by Janson- its almost as if no one else knows how to ink Romita Jr properly- Janson brings out the best in his work. Romita Jr's best work has always been with Janson in my opinion. Finally- he is a much better storyteller than Liefeld which I really appreciated- its one of the reasons I kept on re-reading these issues over and over- one of the best comics from the 90s in my opinion.

I think John romita Jr is a talented artist and love some of his stuff kind of like this it's very stylized, but of course whoever did the inks on that probably takes a lot of that credit as far as it looking so solid and heavy as you guys said. Because honestly the artwork on his uncanny X-Men run was hollow as hell. The X-Men world these thin lined empty caricatures of themselves artistically. His run ruined the X-Men for me I didn't come back until the mutant massacre about 20 issues later just to watch them all get killed! Which really sucked for me because I love that comic it was my favorite.

I've always loved JR JR's art... I remember he followed high profile artist in some runs at the time, think he was right after Paul Smith in the Uncanny X-Men and Frank Miller in Daredevil. I dropped a sub when the youtuber called his art shit... never call JR JR art shit.

At the time I hated Liefeld's art so much I didn't even want to see his characters drawn by other people and avoided anything that had his characters in it, except this. I couldn't pass up some JRJR Dan Green action, even if it was fucking Cable. To me Claremont JRJR and Dan Green are the X-Men.

Could you guys please do a John ramita Jr X-Men episode. His art is so much different in what you're presenting in cable and The uncanny X-Men I would love to know how he got on the book I would love to hear you guys explain exactly the controversy of his art style compared to Paul Smith that really drew the eye of many fans including myself. I've never understood how he ended up on that book I mean I know Paul Smith had to leave it for some reason but that they put him on it and I think it was supposed to be temporary and he got to stay for like 50 issues I'm not sure I ever understood that.
