For me laptop user with a mix of AMD 780M IGPU and RTX 4060 DGPU! this aspect of CachyOS is key: "We are providing precompiled nvidia modules for every kernel. We are not relaying on nvidia-dkms anymore since Mid of November 2023. This helps to avoid issues with compatibility or the compilation with nvidia-dkms." Believe this can save lots of headaches (if done well of course). Great video A1rm4x!
@az9az9az911 ай бұрын
Hi. I also have 780M and 4060. I was wondering if there is battery life optimized kernel for AVX512? I would ideally be able to switch between different power levels, but is there way to make custom CPU speed limits? In Fedora and Kubuntu there was no way to fully power down 4060 Nvidia with Optimus GPU switcher and EnvyControl, how is this working in CachyOS?

I've been using it for more than a year now, its optimizations are noticeable, the staff is very responsive and updates are fairly punctual (there are no long delays for important packages as seen with ALHP). They also aim for sane defaults with is a refreshing user-centric approach. Have I mentioned the performance improvements, ah - I did. That is a big plus of course.

I had ran Cachy a year or so ago for a little bit, but I never got down in the weeds and really understood the optimizations made by the team. It's very worth it if you do! They have put a LOT of work into the improvements, and the wiki explains each pretty clearly. I installed it again last night on a Thinkpad, and I'm stoked to really see how much computing improvement I'm going to be able to get with that older machine. Enjoyed the video!

It applies to how fast the package manager can find packages, install, and resolve issues if any are there. pacman is really good at this and zippyr (openSUSE) is notoriously slow

@A1RM4X Жыл бұрын
Salut Gabriel!

Tried CachyOS myself and... It's a great project, and looking at the comments, people enjoy it and see the benefits. In my particular case, though, I got more issues, than Nobara. Wake from sleep ends up with black screen, Nvidia Wayland does not work at all, app startup time differs anywhere from 1 sec to 5 seconds. Spectacle opens so slow, that sometimes I wonder whether I pressed the keys correctly or not. Other than these issues, which I'm sure are fixable, this is a great distro. I'm just looking for a perfect distro for my setup, which would work the best out of the box. So far it is Bazzite. Will try BlendOS now, and I hope it's my final distrohop before anchoring to it or back to Bazzite 🐰

Bonne continuation !

The way I understand it is that it basically performs a speedtest on all the available mirrors and orders them based on best to worst connection. Then when you download packages, etc. it will attempt to use the highest ranked mirror first and if that's not available, it'll try the next one down, and so on...
