Update: April 12, 2022. I completed 7 months of treatment for brain cancer in early February 2022. I am now nearly 100 days post ASCT (autologous stem cell transplant) back in Wyoming and slowly recovering. I will have a MRI scan tomorrow but anticipate it will show NED (no evidence of disease).

I finished four rounds of high dose chemotherapy. Got an MRI about a week ago. My oncologist said the MRI looked "excellent" and "the best possible outcome." My next step in treatment will likely be a stem cell transfer, will know more in a couple weeks. My prayers go out to your partner and others battling cancer.

Growing from seed is my preferred method. With good germination it's possible to have many hundreds of plants.

Thanks for sharing the 1999 video! I was still a minor and was just starting to become interested in plants other than cannabis. In those days there was near nothing online, books only… most we’re out of date books I gathered up from second hand stores and often they provided bad info on culture, lots of names that were defunct or even just wrong… Acquiring plants if good quality at that time was even harder than finding good info. HOWEVER! Many of the “old standard” plants from the past were heirlooms, not necessarily anything special, but different. There’s lots heirloom houseplants that you can’t buy anymore, you can find the same species, but it will be a different form, not a named form, maybe not even recognized as being different… I remember an older Hindu rope, Hoya carnosa compacta varigata that doesn’t match any of the forms I can find currently online. Point being, individual genes can be very special, especially in a field of plants that now relies on cuttings and tissue culture, with little diversity from seeds or other wild populations.

I've bought many cacti and succullent seeds from Mesa Gardens in Belen, New Mexico over the years. I do like the genetic diversity that comes with seed grown plants. Although unusual, I have had monstrous and cristate forms arising in batches of seedlings.

The 14' x 22' greenhouse was made by Turner Greenhouses, from North Carolina if memory serves correct. It is covered with twin wall polycarbonate, well suited to our extremely cold winters in Wyoming.

What happened to most of the collection from 1999?
@CactusCowboy572 жыл бұрын
There was a power outage in January, 2002 during bitterly cold weather. That resulted in the fan in my gas-fired heater shutting off. With no air circulation that tripped the overheat safety switch in the heater, shutting off the gas supply. The next morning I went into the greenhouse. Temperature in there was about 10 degrees F and many of the plants perished.

@@CactusCowboy57 oh that’s horrible! I’m from Austin tx. and I also collect cactus and it’s always so stressful during our winters 😓 Hopefully you can start collecting what you lose :/ but prices for some cactus are going crazy these days 😖
@CactusCowboy572 жыл бұрын
@@Hectorrbazaldua In recent years I'm more focused on winter hardy species. Cost has not been much of a factor as I routinely grow from seed.
