A month ago I've decided to try recording an audiobook. A month ago all I knew was I need 'a condenser mic'. Then I have found your channel somehow. Now I have a USB condenser mic, an XLR condenser mic, two XLR dynamic mics, a boom arm, a shock mount, a mic stand, a pop filter, and Steinberg UR22mkII. And not a single word of that audiobook recorded. Curse you.

This mic definitely suits better for Mike, who have some distortion in low-end of his voice. and CAD shows it great. For some with smooth, and bit higher pitched voice like Bandrew (and myself) have it's not best mic.

WARNING BEFORE YOU BUY: I have just tested TWO CAD e100s microphones, back to back. The recording was using a MixPre3-II with a sample rate of 48kHz and bit depth of 32-bit Float. My first copy of the e100s had a noise floor on par with an AKG P420 (in other words, nowhere near the published specs for the e100s), the second copy I received is even worse (higher SNR than the first copy by about 2-3dB in my estimation, noticeably noisier than the first when listening to it in with Sony MDR-7506 headphones) in self-noise performance as I just finished testing side by side and scrutinized the recording wearing headphones and via spectrographic analysis and waveform statistics in Izotope RX8. I really wanted to own a good sample of this microphone, but I don't think this is going to happen so I am returning both mics. By the way, I am assuming both microphones came from the same batch since their serial numbers differ by 2 (one is SN6025, the second one is SN6027). My Deity Smic2 blows them both away with respect to self-noise (EIN). These were purchased through Amazon and sold by Photo4Less. The box is NOT WOOD, but plastic, imitating wood. I am aware of Booth Junkie's reviews/experience with similar problems with the e100s. I am aware of all the discussions of Gearslutz as well.

Looking for a new microphone to do my audiobooks and voice work. I've used an ADK6 for years. But. I'm looking for something like this. Never liked the CAD's given to me. Always seemed low end and well...cheap. Have one plus about 10 other named brands and model mics. But never found that "one" and too poor for the "classic" Neumann models like u87 or tlm103. Good review! Thanks!

The sound remind me a lot the NT1, is an awasome puppy, a super microphone in my opinion, but the company support is quite different, I have found that CAD don't provide overseas warranty support like Rode's, it's a beutiful microphone that when it fails burns your USD $ 500, I prefer keeping buying Rode mics as they have a sturdy warranty covering their mic overseas. What do you think about the support of CAD microphones, to me it's important be covered with my investment.

Love it...I have the vintage one but am thinking of getting this one to future proof my vintage in case something ever happens to it...I don’t want downtime with this beauty. They sound ever so slightly different...the vintage is so buttery smooth and warm...this one is just as smooth but seems to have less boomyness and a little brighter...both things can be adjusted during mixing, not a big deal, they are so similar in a lot of ways!

I have the original e100 (without the S) it's got the golden grill. It's an amazing mic and my favorite condenser mic of all time for vocals. Out of all of the choices out there, I've just grown fond of the unique, buttery smooth consonant sounds it delivers and smooth vocals. The version in this video (e100S) does not sound like it has any problems either. If I ever need to upgrade because something terrible happens to my e100 original, I would definitely pick this up. As far as plosives, I never have a problem with my metal pop screen, but I can't speak on the S model because I only have an original. From the sounds of it though...this version does not sound noticeably different at all. Buttery smooth.

good mic. I think at the point where the boost starts it is a little too jarring and abrupt. It's like all flat and then BOOM the boost starts to rise at about 4-4.5khz. Overall it's a good mic though. It has a nice speech boost that goes under the 5db line and (ok at 7khz that's when the human voice ends and then the rest is the treble pretty much) has a little boost in the treble that doesn't make this mic breathy I think which is a good thing. Overall a good mic just with that jarring point where the boost starts and I think the price should be maybe $300-$400 (somewhere in that range) given all that is has going for it.
