I like NX fill for patching holes in tooling or fixtures. example. When something doesn't offset correctly and leaves a hole in a non-critical area. Fill works perfectly.

That is about as perfect a spot to use fill. Honestly. A simple patch.

The NX fill command is also very convenient for repairing defects on imported geometry. For example, if you have missing or bad faces after a STEP import you can fill in missing faces. For areas of bad faces you can delete the face then use Fill.

You say the CATIA V5 result is more complex than the result in NX *but* in CATIA you included the passing point which isn't possible to include in NX. So this comes as no surprise IMHO.

Isn’t the Catia solution here more flexible/generalized and will produce less heavy surfaces compared to NX when the input isn’t mostly a cut off square?

You need to either have the files translated out manually or use the CATIA translate option in NX.

You do realize NX is used pretty much exclusively to design every Russian fighter jet? And it is used to design some of the nicest cars on the planet. And Boeing uses it pretty much exclusively for military and defense. Maybe you have no idea how to use NX?

@@ClassASurfacingYes, and I am the guy who built aircrafts CAD models for MIG and Boeing company using NX and CATIA. NX sucks because of it requires more actions to build same object comparing with CATIA. NX is also less robust and require more work to rebuild the model or to implement changes in the CAD model. NX is less intuitive and has a bunch of limitations. NX has crappy visualisation of big assemblies. The only reason companies use it is NX is cheaper than CATIA.

I am just going to go with you are not using NX correctly. Both have good and bad things about them. It is a question of knowing how to exploit the good and reduce the bad. In some ways NX is pick heavy, I agree but in some ways Catia makes it very difficult to pick things. NX has better assembly tools. ANd yes, you can open an assembly faster in NX. I have tested it. Catia has a simpler interface but lacks the tools NX has so in that regard it works faster but I can do so much more with the native NX tools.
