Just so everyone knows, when you sign up to any of these ancestry or heritage style companies products you are basically letting them sell any data they gather about you for free, and the information is also used against other family as well. For example, if they can link you to someone with a genetic condition that's hereditary because of other genetic data they have then companies like Insurance Companies can pre-emptive discriminate against you or family who share that genetics and reject you even before you know about it. It also correlates into much larger data sets used to take advantage of you, the novelty isn't worth the non cash price you and people you care about can pay for your curiosity. If you are okay with this than go for it, but I believe that it's criminal they profit off your information without you being fully informed. And no, fine print in a contract does not count. It should be clearly stated on sign up how they plan to use your data for anything outside of the required use for the purpose you paid for.

@@Thunderous333 that’s actually not true. If the mother alleges that the father is abusing the children, specifically sexually, he is much more likely to get custody. Even if the abuse is proven, mothers still lose custody much more often than fathers.

It's absolutely possible to drown without water in the lungs. It's called dry drowning and it's been identified in 10-20% of drowning victims. As a person inhales water their airways will close to prevent it from entering the lungs, it's called laryngospasm. This also prevents people from breathing as long as this reflex is active. In most cases, once hypoxia sets in the laryngospasm relaxes and water is inhaled once the person is unconscious, but in some cases the airway will stay closed, resulting in a person drowning without water entering the lungs.

So Charles asked for a Divorce and requested a protection order against Lori because she "threatened to murder him and have an angel help dispose of his body". He said "he feared for his life and the lives of his children", and the Court gave her the kids?! The Court system is so fucked against fathers its sickening. The Judge basically handed those kids to their executioner.

unfortunately numbers show that accusing your partner of abuse (that’s not proven, just accusations) actually brings their chances of getting the kids up because custody court sees that as you potentially keeping the kids from that parent in the future. their outlook on it is that it’s not their job to look into accusation of abuse, just to decide custody. so if there’s anything to learn here, get documented proof of abuse to you or your children before going to custody court because you’ll be seen as a liar who’s trying to take the kids if you don’t.

I don't think there's some grand connection between them all... or maybe even connections among any of them. Although, there are several cases included in the whole set, that I think were poorly investigated and were likely the result of foul play. It's weird that many of the cases involved men who were found a week or two or three after disappearing, but were apparently only dead, or only in the water, for 1-3 days before being found. It seems like some of those cases, rulings of "accidental" were handed down when that seems to contradict the forensic evidence. Like the case with Todd; ruling it a drowning when he didn't even have water in his lungs.

There's definitely something to connect a few cases but I don't think there's some massive serial killer or anything. Most of it seems to just be really unfortunate accidents where guys got drunk and stumbled into water, and most of the malicious intent is from muggers who targeted drunk targets. Todd's is definitely one of the outliers in that regard; there's clearly a lot more to his case, it would be almost impossible for him to get into that situation without anyone at least being aware of it if not causing it.

I LOVE your off script ending. It's true, and the world would be a better place if more people could recognize that. I grew up with a rocky and unstable childhood, and ended up homeless, addicted to drugs, in an abusive relationship with no sort of family support. I chose to run from my problems, maybe in an attempt to outrun them, I don't know. Anyways, I ended up over 3000 miles away from any one I knew. While I am grateful for the opportunity to change my life and deal with my past so it doesn't control my future, I could have easily ended up as a Jane Doe somewhere. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. People who are stuck in a position where they have no control over the circumstances and are FORCED into making decisions that they wouldn't normally make...they're not going to just lay down and die. Our survival instincts will push us to do things we would never have imagined ourselves having to do. I think having a supportive family is something that is taken for granted. People don't understand how deep of an impact it has to have family that abandons, mistreats, or abuses you. We understand the world based on our experiences, and if someone has had the people they should be able to trust betray them in some way, that's how they view the world...through a lens of mistrust. We learn how to get what we need by figuring out what works for us, whether that's positive or negative. It's just survival. Whenever I hear about tragedies like this, or people growing up to be incredibly evil, MOST of the time, the families played a large part, whether through actively harming someone, or simply ignoring or brushing off concerning behaviors or issues. NOT doing something can be just as detrimental as doing something directly, especially when you are the one responsible for protecting the vulnerable. Life isn't always fair, and some people get dealt a pretty crap hand in life. They should be held accountable for any wrongdoing that created victims, but they should NOT be further shamed, looked down upon, forgotten, ignored, or preyed upon. Many, many people are just one or two decisions away from being in that position, although they don't realize it and would NEVER admit it. We as humans need each other. Kindness and compassion are so valuable, yet seem to be increasingly rare. A little compassion can go a long way for someone who hasn't experienced it in a while.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I run a centre for at-risk youth. Many of the youth are at-risk because they never had a chance, they never knew a stable home, their is so much generational trauma, their parents lost everything due to circumstances outside of their control, The list goes on and on. People who have never experienced this type of hardship do not understand the privilege that they have had when compared to these youth. There has been this sentiment, for decades at least, that teens some how just turn evil and responsible for their life path by their own choices. As if children choose to be addicts, choose have mental health issues, choose to be homeless, choose to go hungry, and choose a hard life of misery. Even when these youth it is often seen as on less kid to ugly up downtown and not the loss of a beautiful human being who had so much to give. I think, with how screwed up the world really is and with how many people are now living half a pay cheque away from homelessness themselves as well as how prevalent the opioid crisis is among the middle class people are starting to understand that no one chooses that life and that is can happen to anyone with just one bad day. Maybe one day we will all be willing to help each other out instead of judging someone else's sorrow to make us feel better about ourselves.

One of my favorite creators said recently (Dr. K from HealthyGamerGG), that what he has realized in his 20+ years of experience, is that mental health has evolved into a "you" problem. If you have mental health issues, that's something that YOU need to fix, and get under control. But often times what he has seen is that the problems were created by others and no one wants to take responsibility for it, so the person IS left to deal with it on their own, and being told they are the problem can reinforce that shame and it does nothing to fix the problem! It's so frustrating, to see MOST of my friends from my teenage years either dead or in prison, or on their way, only a handful have made it out. We all had horrific experiences which is what brought us together, that shared struggle. I do hope as well that more data comes out, or however it happens, that there is that shift in perspective from the general public, to understand that real life human connections with compassion and empathy are the only way that we are going to see our society stop unraveling. It's discouraging to see how technology seems to have made it easier for people to feel a sort of separation and divide from others, contributing to so much of the radical and argumentative nature of so much of the internet, and the decreasing time spent actually interacting with our fellow humans. It's so important for people like you and me, who have an intimate understanding of this concept, to be able to use our experiences to hopefully help others understand, and hopefully make an impact on how people see, and treat others that are less fortunate than themselves.

The whole thing, put together, really ruffles my feathers. The disenfranchised, poor, marginalized, vulnerable people become re-victimized by the people who are tasked with keeping them safe, while the real criminals (PDFiles, repeat violent offenders, etc) aren't even being investigated, even if you come to them with evidence! The whole system is fükt, from corrupt judges and prosecutors and DA's, down to the patrol officers who get off on having control over someone else's life, freedom, and future. Agreed, it's a very flimsy theory and I was glad to hear Cadaber's skepticism. I think it's reasonable to conclude that some of the cases of accidental drowning associated with this theory could be the result of foul play (More due to the law of averages than anything else), but that's very different than them being the result of a singular network of killers. The leaps of logic made to connect all of these together into being the result of a cross-country gang of serial killers who use the most commonly graffitied symbol as their calling card are astounding. It really has a lot of the same vibes as the stuff you'd hear from police officers who classified themselves as "occult crime experts" during the height of the Satanic Panic who were eventually shown to be utterly full of bunk.

I come from a very, very small town. (less than 300 people) My brother lost his best friend in a car accident. The guy was drunk driving after his "last night of drinking" before he was going to try and get sober. My bro, being a fireman and one of the only available emergency workers at the time, had to direct traffic until the scene was cleaned. That sort of thing doesn't ever leave you, and being in a small community, it doesn't leave most of us. I live in a big city now where accidents like this happen almost daily, and I rarely see anyone bat an eye at them. It's eerie, to be honest. Anyway, I appreciated your closing words and how you handle each case with respect. Thank you.

on the first one, there is such a thing as a dry drowning, that can explain the lack of fluid in the lung's, but it doesn't explain the time frame difference on how long the body has been in the water... that is the true mystery. (some very rare cases, the bronchial tubes close off in the panic and they literally suffocate instead of drowning.)

There's very clearly something wrong in Todd's case. The lack of water in his lungs and the lack of decomposition on his body are major details that I think can't just be waved off. I'm certain something went down between his disappearance and him being found.

my theory is that someone poisoned him but i cant remember which things people have used to poison people where it doesnt come up in any screenings. my mind immediately went to that cause theres been so many murders that were ruled accidental deaths cause this certain thing doesnt show up in screenings. ive heard about this lady who killed like 3 husbands and they were all rules accidents cause there was no proof she killed them

Todd sounds like a normal dude so it's hard for me to imagine he'd have any enemies, especially ones dedicated enough to kill him. I suppose it's possible that this could've just been a random murder with no real motive beyond the perpetrator just being evil and wanting to kill someone. This whole case is just really eerie.

I went down a rabbit hole in your account when I moved back home a few months ago and had to do a lot of work for my parents, it really made the boring tasks manageable.
