My father owns the land on which Kilroy was murdered, the ranch was very cheap for obvious reasons. The story is very well known here and there's a lot of people that think it's haunted. Although nothing strange has happened, some farmhands say that they have found miscellaneous bones along the field. My father brought a priest to bless the land and placed basalt pillars on the corners of the land. It's eerie seeing the pictures of the cauldron with a familiar landscape in the background.

I've always felt bad for Pauline and Juliette because nobody had any idea what to with them. They had become so outcasted and lonely that they had to make their own world together to escape. Every time they tried to cope with their loneliness, they were considered weird, mentally ill, evil, witches etc and this only made them further withdraw until they became solely dependent on each other for their own psychological survival. Their parents didnt seem to have any malice against them at all, they just didnt know what to do. Fears of homosexuality being possible and homosexuality being considered both a mental illness and moral failing, clouded every single caregiver's judgement of their behaviour and all the ended up doing was pushing them further into anguish. The girls were mentally ill, but not in the sense that were insane, but in the sense that they were fucking miserable and lonely.

I did figure out the second one was Angst. Many people don't realize people don't become serial killers just because of a bad childhood. Sometimes spoiling a kid too much also breaks his psychology, especially when he has to face real world sooner or later. Also, many parents think they're doing the right thing for their child by being overprotective or any other kind of behavior which cripples their child's psychology. You should let your kid experience life slowly and get ready for it. Edit: Guessing the third one is Heavenly Creatures.

I think the last case is just sad, maybe it had unhealthy aspects but that is unsurprising given how the girls were so socially isolated from thier peers. They were each others world and platonic or not, having others decide to keep trying to tear that apart and then planning to separate them forever is so cruel. It is no wonder they lashed out to protect the world they knew. I am not condoning what they did, but it is understandable.

@@lightforce4604 they probably can’t after what they have done. It would be like a dark stain in their past and their past friendship would be tainted because of it. I could imagine that. I know how close friendships break and even if you could, you wouldn’t want to revisit them for various reasons. A murder commited in childhood to protect the friendship could in adulthood, after you’ve understood the gravity that a child can’t really grasp as well, make you feel like what did we do all that for. That could very well be a lost relationship forever.

i'd say the majority of the time, its a combination of nature *and* nurture. a lot of serial killers and violent criminals are raised in hostile, miserable environments, but just as many people are raised in the same environments and never hurt anyone. that said, it's definitely not impossible for either one to be the sole factor. from your description of kniesek, it seems to mostly nature for him, but honestly who knows; growing up in post WW2 europe wasn't easy for anyone

In my opinion nobody’s truly born bad, or at least enough to be evil without outside forces. If you ask me, the nature argument stems from the fear that anyone can end up like that. People say that someone was “born evil” because it makes them feel better, that themselves or people they know couldn’t do such a deplorable act because they weren’t “born bad.” Could also come from the fear of addressing mental illness, people say someone is pure evil because they don’t want to admit they didn’t do what was needed to help them.

Having looked at so many criminals, I think that some people are just born defective. Werner Kniesek isn't even the worst example, IMO. That honor goes to Dennis Raeder, aka BTK. He had a stable homelife, held down good jobs, became a deacon in his church, and yet was a sadistic serial killer who turned his victims into "projects" where he would meticulously surveil them for months or years before striking and fading into the background afterward. There may be other, better examples I don't know about, but Dennis had absolutely no reason to be a monster yet chose to be one.

It's been a long time since I took a psychology class, but one thing they taught us was that it's a combination of nature and nurture. Everyone is born capable of evil things; everyone needs different switches flipped before they'll actually do them. Sounds on its face like a pseudo-nihilistic "One bad day" type philosophy, but I think of it as an incredible opportunity. We have the knowledge and resources to be better at criminal punishment and preventing violence than we have ever been in the entirety of human history, if we can only get people to discard the old ways of looking at the issue. The truly dangerous approach in my opinion is when we get fed up with the complexity and heartbreak and just reduce people to "monsters" and try to call it a day. That's cheap. That's giving up on the problem.
@goaway9977
@goaway9977 2 жыл бұрын
Much violence in society can be explained by and therefore mitigated by environmental factors but the reality is that our environment changes so rapidly that we will always be one step behind. You have the uptick of serial killers in the 60s and 70s, the rise of gang violence in the 80s and 90s, terrorism in the 90s and 2000s and spree shooting from the 2000s to the present day. Changes in culture, technology or economic and political factors can solve one issue only to inadvertently create a new one. And so on and so forth. Utopian visions of a world without "monsters" is naive I'm afraid. There is so much neuro diversity in the human population, and so much diversity of circumstance and environment, that there will always be someone somewhere who falls down the path of being a "monster".

I agree. I usually fall asleep listening to this kind of channel, and no I'm not a sicko , just fascinated with humans and what they are capable of. I studied criminology and psychology. I had a horrific childhood and one of my mental disorders is PTSD but I have never been evil or cruel towards any living creature. Sickens but fascinates me what some people are capable of.

If you didn’t know, “matar” is the Spanish word “to kill”, and I believe that “Moros” is what they called Muslims, from the common term “Moors”. So “Matamoros” sounds like a pretty ominous name-
@rumpeltyltskyn
@rumpeltyltskyn 2 жыл бұрын
My Spanish teacher explained this to me. Spain at one point was ‘ruled’ or occupied, or maybe invaded? by Moors (can’t remember 100%), before they were driven out. “Matamoros” was like, a battle cry or something, and became a common town name in Spain. So I imagine that it carried over into other Spanish-speaking countries. (Just saying all this from a historical standpoint, that that’s the reason. Not saying it isn’t ominous and weird to think about.)

@@rumpeltyltskyn That’s really cool- thank you! I was just kind of guessing because I only know a bit of Spanish, but I did remember that the Moors lived (and fought) in Spain in the Middle Ages. And I seem to remember that in the Philippines, the people also speak Spanish and use the term Moro, so it kind of made sense to me. I didn’t even think of it being a battle cry- thanks for that detail. Have a great week!
