Nice introduction Lars, maybe worth mentioning that when you introduce a parameter for something you already modeled, like in a sketch or an extrusion, you can ALSO directly in the parameter sheet find the dimension of extrusion length in the build-up-as-you go list of dimensions. There is no need to go back in the history and type it in there, you can stay on the parameter sheet, but the different section of it. You can also introduce calculations that use more than one parameter as to drive your model for one specified feature. Or: use the parameter and modify and use it in a certain way before applying it. An example might be a specified hole diameter, for which you need to extrude a body first like 1.5 times the specified hole diameter as to have a good construction after you draw and create the hole in it.

Good stuff, Lars. You missed an opportunity to demonstrate a useful Fusion360 feature: What happens when you realize that you misspelled a parameter name (With should have been Width)? Do you have to fix the error everywhere you used that parameter? No, just change it in the parameter table to the new value and all the references are corrected, as well. I find this equally useful when I realize that I have two or more parameters that are almost the same name but different function that should be clarified by a more different name. Thanks again. Would be nice if the parameters dialog box was modeless instead of modal. Then it could be open during drawing, and allow very easy access to see/add parameters

Nice video Lars! I think you should avoid naming a component "body" in a beginner video. the distinction between components and the bodies within them is not obvious when you first start out.

This new series is great. I really love Parameters too. I mean, why use a parametric design software if you're not going to use parameters, right? P.S. The only thing I don't like about these new videos is the intro and outro music. It's significantly louder than the rest of the video so when it starts, my speakers start blurring it out and it's a bit annoying

Another terrific tutorial. I've been using the parameters feature for a few months before this tutorial and feel its really the 'right' way to do things. But I find there is either something missing in Fusion, or in my understanding of its use in the larger scheme of workflow. Let's say I make a ... Piston. I define PistonLength and PistonDiameter in the parameters and build off those. Next I import the piston to a new design that will make use of it. That new design will need mounts for the piston of course... Except the parameters from the imported Piston don't import with the object. So how do you develop the mounts/use for the imported component and keep it parameterized so the mounts automatically adjust if you resize the original piston?

Love parameters. Can I create two objects tied to each other with only small difference? For example two boxes with different lengths? Would then like to add features that affects both. Shamfer for example

Inventor has something called an iPart that can accomplish this. I think SolidWorks has 'factory parts' and something called 'configurations' to achieve this, if memory serves me correctly. It would be nice to see something similar in Fusion.

In Fusion 360 is there anything similar to iParts in Inventor or factory parts in SolidWorks? For those who don't know an iPart is a part with parameters like this combined with a table for different variants you can select through. One master part to make several different variants.

is there a way of grouping parameters? in my design it is made up of lots of bits i.e. I have an X rail, y rail and z rail, so I have x_rail_length, x_rail_.... and the same from y_rail and for z_rail currently I just prefix but it just get very long and hard to tell if I have already made a parameter for something or not.

Good explanation of using parameters. Very powerful feature. However, I find the ability to keep sketches for components outside of the component somewhat confusing. I thought this was just an unpleasant side-effect of the new "Create Component from Body" feature, which moves the body into a new component but leaves the sketch(es) behind in the assembly. I don't see an advantage and in fact find it confusing. But would welcome anybody to try and change my mind.

@@cadcamstuff there is something on the F360 store that exports and imports parameters. it is stored in a csv file, so that can be edited. Minor drawback is that it a parameter is referenced before definition, ie you go back and use a parameter lower down in the table, the import fails. The utility is trying to be too helpful. But, you can edit the csv file for proper order. One nice thing, is if you use a set of parameters a lot, plop them into a csv file and then import them into the new file.
