I caught loads of chub on the Avon weirs using a 6 swan balsa loafer, size 6 hook and luncheon meat. Bidford, Offenham and others, over 60 in one session . Deadly method. Works on the Trent too. People using maggots were struggling. Almost 40 years ago now!

Hi James, great to see you fishing the stick once again. Do you still use the Abu’s for your float fishing I bought both models after seeing you fish with them a couple of years ago and still love them today !

Michael, it's Chappy (cameraman.) James is away in China. He now uses Cadence open faced reels. top anglers do move companies, and if I can speak on his behalf, he would honestly tell you that all the products he has helped promote or has developed over the years he truly believed in, and of course he would now point you towards Cadence reels. If you are happy then Abu reels are ideal. If you seek new reels then it's Jame's job to guide you towards his current favourites. I can say on my part, they are very pleasing reels and the rods are excellent. Hope that answers your question.

Hi James Many thanks for this pleasant video. I'm not used to fish in running water, and I've just a little question : how do you "plumb" to find the depth ?
@CadenceFishingUK6 жыл бұрын
You could use a pole for ultimate accuracy, however, that is limited by length. It's a case of running the float through until it pulls under too frequently then shallowing up bit by bit, or add a swan shot to the hook with a strong pinch and just easing it through to feel your way and get a general sense of the depth. On sluggish rivers it's easier of course.

Many thanks for this quick response.

Hi Martin, just read your comment above and thought I'd let you know how I plumb the depth on rivers with good flow when stick float fishing. I attached a normal heavy plummet to my hook then cast downstream and across towards the far bank, then I'ts a simple process of pulling the rod back allowing the float to appear on the surface, then let the line go slack, if the float disappears then you're set too shallow and need to raise the float away from the hook, if the float stays on the surface for a while before disappearing then you're set too deep and need to slide the float down towards the hook, just keep repeating this process until you're happy you've found the correct depth, it does take a little practise but you will soon get the hang of it! Hope this helps, all the best Paul Kozyra

Martin Goblet try attaching a plummet and holding back then let the float rise under shot the float and see if it pops up and over and keep bouncing it down

@CadenceFishingUK6 жыл бұрын
No. James has access to a couple of stretches on private property not far away. Sorry, we would love to be more specific but the land owner might shoot us proper dead like :p

Welford club water is a bit further downstream isn't it? This is definitely Welford weir though.
