I found this is the best explanation I've seen - the diagrams in particular helped me , I also want to thank you for your recent video on attaching lead shot - I have struggled with shotting floats for years - main issue being moving shot to change pattern - your tips on fixing , moving the shot then discarding the last bit of line , solved my problems - and I actually enjoy shotting up now -thanks !.

As most of us probably did I started out float fishing and over time moved to more leger and feeder tactics, targeting larger fish. Recently I took a float rod, some bread and a pint of maggots with me to the river and rediscovered the fun of using a simple float setup, 4lb line, a 2lb hooklength and a size 18 hook. Initially feeding some balled up bread&maggots and then little and often with maggots, I had constant bites, multiple good sized dace and small chub. Typically fishing with static hair rigged baits, boilies, meat, pellets etc I'd forgotten how enjoyable this type of fishing can be.

Returning to angling after many years away. Reason for returning was mainly due to my son expressing an interest, so borrowed some kit and took him a few times to a local stillwater where we landed some roach, rudd, perch, and of course a few gudgeon too :-) . He loved it, and I had forgotten how much fun it can be. Some great videos uploaded to this channel. I especially like the longer and more technical ones explaining the use of stick and waggler floats, as well as the significance of the tell tale shot. Thanks! Now have more confidence in achieving good results going forward when I purchase ourselves some tackle of our own. Please keep the videos coming.

will you be doing a video on using a centre pin casting the amount of line loading the reel . as there is little of it around and using a pin is tricky even for we anglers that fish with them a lot . for example loading line from the top is better in windy conditions . but for casting and batting line back in . line coming of the bottom is better ext ext

Awesome video, loads of info I've missed in the past and never thought of, thanks. I am after a centre pin reel and rod myself can you recommend any please
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 7 жыл бұрын
Mostly I use a light 13 foot float rod with a line rating of 1 to 4lb, but I do quite a bit of Roach fishing, you may need something different. A 4.5 inch reel with a 1 inch wide drum should be fine for long trotting and general river fishing.

Nice vid. Would the shotting pattern be different for seed baits? or would a waggler be better?
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 7 жыл бұрын
For a small bait like pearl barley, I would fish the stick. Bigger baits with heavier gear I might use an Avon. I would only use a waggler if conditions demand.

Hi AA. I am just getting into river fishing, trotting especially , can you tell me what knot you would use to tie your ready made rigs to your mainline so I can look it up on you tube and learn it. Thank you this is a fantastic tutorial
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 7 жыл бұрын
Loop to loop using figure of eight loop knots with the loop in the main line large enough to pass the winder through. Loop to loop also allows you to easily change the rig if needed.
