this song is about Gerard's and Mikey's grandmother Helena (Elena but she was known as Helena by everyone) who passed away, the song deal's with the grief and regret that Gerard feels over not being able to be with her at the end because of traveling but also his addictions, she was very important in Gerard's and Mikey's life as she was the one who taught them music, makeup and motivated Gerard to audition for a school play ,she was also instrumental to the band if I remember correctly she was the one that got them the van they used to tour back on Bullets era (their first record). The song works as a way for all of them to not only say their goodbyes and pay their respects but also to make peace with themselves for the things they did or didn't do while she was alive, it's a rollercoaster trough the 5 stages of grief.

I find people tend to be confused by the line "we are the very hurt you sold." (I saw this guy look at the camera like "what?" lol) I believe that line is Gerard berating himself because his livelihood (the thing that makes him money, AKA the thing he "sells") is music that uses death and loss and "hurt" as a central theme. So he "sold hurt" without realizing that he never truly experienced it until that moment. That's my take, anyway :)

I'm sure many explained the lyrics, but here's mine. Yes, it's about his grandmother Elena who Gerard and Mikey loved very very much. The hatred is self loathing because instead of being with her when she died he ,Gerard, was on tour. Sad part is that Elena probably would have said that he should be on tour, doing his thing, "saving lost souls", and never stop being creative, but still he blames himself not being with her. Loved your reaction, ty. Hugs from Sweden.

You nailed it with the combination of sadness and regret. Very insightful! My Chem is special on a lot of levels. One thing to consider, most of their albums have narratives woven throughout. So, some of the lyrics are meant to work on multiple levels and can be a bit "poetic and ambiguous' without the context of the narrative. If you want to do songs with videos, consider: Famous Last Words, I'm Not Okay, NaNaNaNa & Sing combination (The videos together tell a story.)

I would recommend listening to the entirety of the Black Parade and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge albums. All of the songs from both of these are great, so it's hard to pick out one or two. I wouldn't recommend their first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, because of how amateurish it sounds. It isn't horrible, but it isn't great either. Their last album, Danger Days, was cool, but seems to be a completely different genre than their previous albums were. A lot of fans were upset about that, but I think that The Black Parade was the pinnacle of their genre. It was never going to get better from there, so I think that MCR was smart in choosing a different direction to take the band. What I'm trying to get at here is that we would love to watch you react to anything from the Black Parade and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in particular. Priority songs: Mama I Don't Love You House of Wolves The Sharpest Lives Sleep Teenagers Famous Last Words I'm not okay (i promise) The Ghost of You Thank You for the Venom Hang 'Em High Cemetery Drive I never told you what I did for a living
@lavenderllamamusic3 жыл бұрын
Three Cheers is my favorite but Bullets is a close second for me. It helps if you really enjoy that raw punk sound to begin with! But because not everyone does, it's definitely an acquired taste for most. You either like it or you don't lol But I'd love to see them react to a song like, _Early Sunsets Over Monroeville_ , off that album. One of the more emotional ones in terms of Gerard's vocals
@SickSadZed3 жыл бұрын
In Danger Days, they were kinda acting... That's why they "changed" the name of the band while they recorded it "Killjoys".. It was a complete different universe and it was like an experimentation.. Personnaly, as a early MCR fan, i just understood that each album has his own universe with his own codes.. Welcome to the black parade were performer by "The Black Parade".. not exactly MCR, even if the styles were similar. And at the end of the album Gerard said "The Black Parade IS dead".. What means that they closed definitly that chapter to open a New one ( KillJoy kids btw). Three cheers was they real self album. The only one where they expressed themselves as THEMSELVES.. They real feelings, with stories of their real life.. They needed that and they did it.. But the Black Parade, even if it's a similar style was different because it was based on fiction.. Not Three cheers.. The first album( I brought my bullets..) was more general. They didn't have an Identity yet... They was just like all teenagers Bands singing this or that randomly.. (Sorry if English isn't correct, i'm french.. just tried to explain as well as i can.)
@iwlllfindyou2 жыл бұрын
three cheers and black parade are my favourite albums, but bullets is still amazing. danger days is very different, but there are still some amazing tracks on there, and i find the concept very interesting. i dont think mcr even has a "bad" album. i even love conventional weapons (boy division and the light behind your eyes are my favourites). of course, its all up to personal preference, but i wouldnt put it past people just getting into mcr to check out some of their older stuff.
