Thanks so much for the how-to, very good. I used J-B Weld's Marine Weld as it is petroleum resistant. Mine cracked at the same place as yours. One thing I did different was cut three sides with tin snips and then folded the piece back down and secured with several layers of refrigeration tape. Turned out good.

Great job on the repair, explanation, measuring and thank you for posting. I'm at repair #2 and out of money for this mess. It's time to DIY so can use my car...2009 CTS-V with another gas leak 141k mileage. first repair was 90k to 100k. Disappointing

Thanks for the video. I did the same for my 2009 Cadillac cts4 . All measurements are good. However, if I have to do this again I would move the reference point 1" left of the seam. Since the tank is pushed up against the floor on the right, it is very likely that you will cut into the tank. I used a handheld grinder with a metal cutting blade for this. Remember to keep your blade no more than 1/8" thru the floor.

better to get a good sheet metal nibbler, using a drill bit with a piece of rubber hose to limit your penetration, then the nibbler to remove the metal. no sparks or heat with this method, but slightly slower cutting and more kerf.

Second this - move lower left corner 1" further to left.

I think my car is leaking fuel as well. I can smell it and I also see something leaking along side the fuel tank. Good video thank you

repost- How did you make the fiberglass panel ??????? You replied you were going to post a video for the making of the fiber panel do you have a link for that video ??
@SoCal_Jerry11 ай бұрын
The take away is why the heck didn’t Cadillac put this access panel in the original design? Huge mistake as the “right way” to do this is to drop the driveshaft and complete rear end. That’s what my Cadillac Dealership is doing right now on my 2010 CTS. Thousands of $$$ in labor and a tough job! Crazy!!

How do you make the fiberglass cover?!

So this video worked for me and I appreciate it but has anybody put the metal back down and smell gas ? My car smells like gas every time I turn on now after doing this , my questions is what solutions has anyone done too get rid of the smell ? I was thinking of doing aluminum tape or some sound detonating Matt

What year is this CTS? I have a knocking in my gas tank. Going to replace the filter and the pump. Was going to change the pump this way. If you mentioned it in the vid I missed it sorry.

Is there any vids out there of someone just doing it the proper way and dropping the tank ? Idk if I want a hole in my floor above a Stanky gas tank specially if they bin known yo leak and smell
@jbone1383 Жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHalH-lm7yXb5I you have to remove the whole exhaust, driveshaft AND lower the rear subframe just to drop the tank, it's a huge pita!

When you cut? Did it spark while cutting?
@thejr3garage9105 жыл бұрын
I believe I drilled a starter hole then used tin snips. The tank is very close to the floor. If you use a cutoff wheel be very careful.
@omegatotal4 жыл бұрын
you can also use a sheet metal nibbler, no heat or sparks with that either
@b747skyguy6 жыл бұрын
Why not use a Rotozip Spiral Saw, instead of tin snips? Cleaner cut and much faster.

Probably because I used what tools I had at the time.

You didn't put what year it is or how far to measure from the side. We can tell how high to go but have no idea how far left or right to go in the car

I can see it's by the seat belt, but can't tell if it's driver or passenger side.....

2008 cts. @ about 53 seconds I show the seam overlap that I used to measure from. Rear passenger side
@blk95gsrt5 жыл бұрын
@@thejr3garage910 Exactly my point. You show the measurement width and depth wise approx 6 x 9, and where to measure from for depth front to back to center the hole. But where do you measure over from the side of the car from? How far? I can cut the size you have and get it right front to back, but from left to right I could easily be off a couple of inches.
@blk95gsrt5 жыл бұрын
oh and thank you for the video and the info. and if I missed the info on where to measure from for the left to right centering let me know.
@thejr3garage9105 жыл бұрын
@@blk95gsrt the seam is what I used as my start point. On my 2008 CTS, the seam has an overlap. That is my starting point.
