Great video. Scotty always has good stuff, and fun to watch too! He did forget to mention one of the oldest test in the book. The pop bottle test. Works good if you don’t have a fuel pressure gauge or access to the Schrader valve. Disconnect power to coils/spark plugs. Disconnect fuel line, use a piece of hose to direct it into a pop bottle. Crank it over for a few seconds. Should get about 4-8 oz of fuel. Works best on older mechanical style fuel pumps, but can give you an idea on electronic fuel pumps.

You are my goto guy, I had hard starting with 3.4l chevy and by your vids I came up with replacing the MAP sensor for $85 because simptoms matched the best. But still had to hold pedal down an inch to get started hot or cold with rich gas fumes/smoke when it finally started out the exaust pipe. So botom line it wasnt the problem, however evey othe car guy had a vid on the Fuel Pressure Regulator that matched my problem exact as when you removed the vacuum line to the Fuel Pressure Regulator gas would sputter out where the vacuume line was, mine sputterd the gas too, problem solved for the additional cost of $52 for the new Fuel Pressure Regulator. Please do a vid on this problem. Thank you for your videos, keep up the good work.

Their lists go back 5 year models if the vehicle has been made long enough. Their ratings are based on questionnaires sent to every subscriber to the magazine. Problem or good performance are listed for engines, electrical, transmission,brakes,AC, etc. Don't buy a car til you check it out. If it,'s rated as reliable then have a mechanic check it out. They also cover major appliances , computers, home ACs, etc in their yearly general guidebook. They'll save you thousands. Like Scotty, they accept no advertisers. They also list the true gas milage for every model.

Scotty Kilmer So I have a question: a few months ago my car would start to “hiccup” when i would come to a stop, my fuel economy started to run abnormally, and now i have a fuel smell coming into my car when i start it up. I did the one gallon of lacquer thinner and i ran it at 2500 rpm for a half hour. I have noticed a change but i was wondering if it could also be a bad fuel injector(s). My check engine line is still on. Should i give it a little more time to let the thinner do its thing or should i venture off to another idea? I may even have to take the converter out at one point to do the cleanup in solution. I appreciate it, i am Military and I don’t get paid an officer’s salary Ha! I am trying not to pay more for something that can be fixed in a simple way. Thanks!

I had the same problem on my 07 civic after I replaced the stereo head unit. Called a mechanic, he came and looked at it and said it was the fuel pump, even though I told him I had started the car without problems prior to the head unit replacement. Found out it was a button under the dash that I had to press. It started immediately. Remember kids. Disconnect the battery before doing any electrical work on your car! :D

Many times a defective in-tank fuel pump can be replaced without removing it, by adding an external fuel pump. They are cheap and easy to install. If it can suck fuel through the dead pump, it will work.

Thanks, but I’ll stick to my ‘01 Toyota Camry LE with 311,420 miles that runs like a Swiss clock, with original engine and automatic transmission and everything works!! Blows cold AC when I need it and heat when I need it. I repainted it, and tinted the windows and looks brand new. Inside is in excellent condition, has power everything including a manufacture sunroof!! I Do most of the maintenance myself and the complex stuff I take to a trusted mechanic. I’ve had it for the past 12 years and plan on keeping it another 12.

I had a jaguar once never again the car broke down almost everyday what a piece of crap it was although it was very stylish

Very insightful, I'm definitely getting a jaguar. Lol but on the real, I needed to know that information about a fuel pump
