I am having a hell of a time trying to get the water pump out of my 1994 SLS. You mentioned yours gave you a hard time. Was there anything else that you can remember that might help others (me)? Yes, I have the tool, but in other extract water pump video's the tool was two piece. Wondering if the other part was to push the water pump in tighter that can be done by hand. How can one tell the water pump is bad on a 2001 deville? Mines overheat but I changed the thermostat and made sure that area where the small hose to the reservoir was clear

sadly this cars are known for getting blown head gaskets .. so it could be that .. but check that there is flow of coolant ..

You put grease on the o-ring in back of the water pump or an adhesive?

grease just so it would slide and NOT get out of place

I took off the thermostat and put everything back together. I poured some blue devil in and its still over heating. which line do you use to purge the water lines? and what else can I do besides putting the head gasket? just for the mean while.

I had the same issue with this one and everything I did worked for a little bit only. As the mechanic I had to do or try what the customer wanted because he didn't want to do a head job. Last thing I did to it was the blue devil twice and it did work

The engine performance is fantastic. It's the transverse mounting and the earlier head bolt issues that suck
