@@alexursu563 no they weren't. Sadly even as a FNC fan I predicted 0-3 and guessed right. We were just worse IG (we won because of insane bot gap in the bo1s but our solo laners were a lot worse so we needed miracle in bot while being in solo lane meta) but we were way better than KT and people saying KT vs IG was the real final do not remember that it was 3-0 stomp for IG there too but the shy decided to have some fun and picked fiora instead of sion in game 3 and then was subbed by his coach for game 4.

Even as a Fnatic fan, I think G2 had a better chance at beating FPX than Fnatic did at beating IG. Perhaps my fnatic bias causes me to like 2018's worlds more. Maybe its in part to do with C9 as well, seing them get past Afreeca was surprising and exciting even as a non-C9 fan.

@@Niick3015 yes we were never close to beating IG. The solo lanes gap was too big and the meta was full solo lanes focused. I still believe if G2 and FPX played 10 bo5s G2 would probably win 7-8 out of them. 2019 G2 was the best team in the world but the meta favoured FPX so much.

Peak TheShy, Peak Rookie and Peak JackeyLove, 3 monsters at their peak being the best players at their respective roles at the time as well as a really good Jungler and support to complete the team, 2018 iG may just be the greatest LPL team of all time, but of course, theshy and jackeylove being on the same team meant winning Worlds on a good day, and being eliminated by NA on a bad day

A huge difference is in narrative of opponents, fnc beat edg, whom were good but not too crazy and they never really made it big at worlds alongside having beaten them in 2015(ofc diff rosters, but it makes it feel more okay) and c9, needs no introduction its NA, While g2 beat dwg, a crazy promising looking rookie squad from korea alongside T1 whom have only lost once in the finals at worlds, so them getting taken out by an eu team in semis makes the narrative look cooler

2018 was the year i started watching pro more than just worlds. I watched all of LCK that year. What a great year. Started off with kingzone sweeping the league, khans second game of 2018 was a riven penta. Then in summer you have the debut of Chovy and Viper on griffin, the downfall of skt, and old man score (and my favourite player smeb) winning a title. Then, after watching LCK thinking they were the best region, Cloud9, G2, and Fnatic sweep through and suddenly NA and EU look really good. Not to mention TheShy and the entire IG roster’s year. A 36-2 regular split record and crazy worlds run. I definitely think in terms of games 2018 isn’t the very best worlds, but there’s no other league tournament that felt as unpredictable and fun.
