@@GamerZakh Sounds good! Although I suggest an additional challenge for your next playthrough which I though was amazing when I replayed the game. The challange: No aqueducts! Housing is force close to water, making the city look more natural. If you want to spice it up even further, only allow fountains next to water. Makes the city even more natural and beautiful! (For levels with too little water, apply the same rules to mountains)

Every real-life economy politician from now on should be able to play at least one of these economy management games by heart. These might be just games, but they greatly improve and visualize your perception of real situations. All they really have is theoretical knowledge and life experience, which is *not* what they should have when entering such a role. I've been watching your content lately very often, and you made me get back into RTS. Thank you very much for that

@Morgan Allen I wanted to bring it up in whatever RTS video the idea struck me, as an enlightment moment. I mean, they have simulators for anything nowadays, mostly for pilots and space pilots. Why not use it in governing as well, not necessarily in a form of a video game, but this is the best we've got and I'm pretty sure the simulator would resemble some strategy game a lot.

Ok I first played this game in 2000. Never made it past mediolanum or lugdunum at the time. Just recently bought it again on steam and with the augustus quality of life improvements and essencially the roadblock, I'm doing alright for most of the game. Of course, between that first experience and the current one there's been thousands of hours of pharoah gameplay which came in handy in a lot of ways. But never have I ever learned about this forced walking thing and let me tell you, this completely changes the game and all experience I got from the 20+ years. This might completely change the way I play it and make my cities a lot better looking, as I've perfected a block based layout that makes all cities look annoyingly similar and quite limited in terms of how they deal with obstacles. The possibilities are near limitless!

It works for most of the buildings, but not for Senate, forum, school, prefecture or engineering post. For entrainment buildings it's better to use actor, gladiator and lion school. When you learn all of this, the markets will be the most tricky to master, because it's difficult to make market ladies go the same road all the time (they will make a detour sometimes) and that will make loop not so stable. Still my favorite type of building the city because you can make the loop go wherever you want.
@lordlorensoth4847
@lordlorensoth4847 3 жыл бұрын
It works for forum and prefectures . Forums although they seem at the start that wont get forced after 2-3 trips they DO get forced and make the round of the loop.The difference is that Forums spawn the walker on the north side of the building and return to the south.Prefectures on the other hand has a completely different setup that honestly does not worth doing.

Hah, man. I commented the same thing because I somehow missed this post. I agree that it's the best way to build the city - you can fit a good 8000-10000 people into a single block, supported by only 1-2 markets (depending on difficulty - and, in Pharaoh's case, the Temple Complex you have).
@koosschutter1675
@koosschutter1675 Жыл бұрын
This is going to change things. In pharaoh I build a separate road on the outside touching people because I didn't like the undesirable buildings in the residential area, but then I need extra architects and firehouses, and with large distances I sometimes needed to double up. I always run out of workers. Oh I see firehouses and architects work only occasionally. (1x1 building)
@KingCrimson250
@KingCrimson250 3 жыл бұрын
Here's a list of buildings this doesn't work with, either because the walkers follow different rules, or because they just can't be made infinite: In C3: Prefectures, Engineer Posts, Forums, Schools In Pharaoh: Police Stations, Tax Collectors, Courthouses So with these buildings it's normally best to intersperse them throughout the block (as we see Zakh doing with Prefects and Engineers in this video). Note that it *does* still work with the Citizen (i.e. worker finder) that the building sends out, just not the building's actual worker. So in addition to 2x2 buildings, it will also work with 1x1 buildings (like Clinics) and 3x3 buildings (like Academies), so long as the road still follows the rules and it's not one of the above exceptions.

The remaster of Pharaoh got me back to city building after a years-long hiatus. I only wish I had found your channel earlier. A question about forced walkers: You used a 2x2 building as an example. Would it also work for 1x1 building walkers, such as engineers? I know that roads merge if they are only one tile apart, but couldn't a road 2 tiles apart be 'pinched' only at the site of a 1x1 building and then diverge again to make said building's walker into a forced walker?

is there a size limit? i dont know what im doing wrong actually. i have a forced walker save about a month ago that spans roughly 270 blocks, 4 such blocks on a 400 x 400 map, and it works fine. and im trying a new self imposed challenge (in no way should it inpact forced walker, but the challenge is to make a city without exporting) and the new loop is roughly thousands of blocks, basically the bottom of the map is all my production including farms, furniture, pottery, and the road loops an entire 400 x 400 map ending up at the top of my loop. basically what im trying to say is, now that ive upped the travel distance to such ludicrous numbers, its not working, and i have cut it down to roughly 500 blocks, and it starts working again... i didnt count the 500 block one, but i did count the 270 blocks. and it is roughly a little under double the size. i tried to push it to 1000 blocks, and it stops working again.

@@GamerZakh I've persevered a bit with it last night. Some buildings have to be positioned "just right" relative to others or the end of the road. And I can't make it work with schools, at all. I've always had the problem that in order to keep prosperity & culture scores up then all the plebs have to work in jobs that contribute to those scores. So I've been ignoring culture and at the end of the level just spamming everything that's needed to get education & entertainment up to "perfect". Until this discovery you had to base your entire city structure around the limited distance that each of these "walkers" travel. They deliver goods from their building to houses which makes the houses evolve into better houses that fit more people (but demand more resources), if houses don't get these goods they devolve and you lose your population, which leads to unemployment, which leads to resource shortages... Without studying some of these methods it's really hard to have a stable city that doesn't randomly implode because walkers decided to walk left instead of right or because you put an important building 2 tiles too far away from your houses.
