Continuing 'The conquered and the proud', this time we look at Julius Caesar as dictator in Rome, about his activities and reforms and his murder on the 15th March - The Ides of March - in 44 BC. We talk about Brutus, Cassius and the other conspirators and what motivated them.

Another exemplary lesson! I’m always struck by the generosity of time given by AG, even in summer. We Roman military nuts are very spoiled!

My hero in history is Caesar. I gobble up any great content I find. I'm always saddened by the death. You have to wonder if he took his security more serious what really might have happened in the trajectory of his vision of Rome. Great video as always!

Same here Caesar is my favorite historical figure of all time! His death saddens me but I think it was a fitting one, and it cemented his immortalization for all time! Nobody will ever forget Caesar, better to go out with a bang than a whimper.

The bust you showed of Caesar at 34:45 he looks sick or very underweight. I don't know if the other bust of Caesar look like this or not.

All the senate had to do was send cesar to the East to fight the Parfians to avenge Crassus and he would have died out there

I’ve often thought Trump is a Caesar-like figure in American politics. His outsider status and populist positions have led to naked persecution of him by the organs of the state and a de facto empire under considerable strain. Echos of history.

yet Trump is by far not rich enough to pay all American soldiers a year's salary and all citizens of the capital a year's rent out of his own pocket.

Donald is not an outsider, and never was - basically inherited a business in real estate in one of the largest real estate markets in the United States. Otherwise, he hasn't been a victim - he basically got himself in all sorts of trouble. Now Caesar wasn't an outsider either - he was a member of the senate, as was his family for some time.

They are some aspects that can BE similar but they are still vastly different people, for example Caesar in His consulship pushed several of His policies through meanwhile Trump really didnt do that much AS president and He didnt pushed His policies so aggressively through Like Caesar, also Trump has Money and He IS hated because He didnt owe anyone much Money meanwhile Caesar was running away from His Money lenders. And the biggest example Trump isnt Leading an US Division and isnt privately raising whole brigades Just because
