what drove Ingo into suicide more than depression was his refusal to take his medication for schizophrenia he was suffering, the lyrics have a religious context due to both Michael and Ingo himself expressed in some interviews to be christians, I may add Michael Kiske is my favorite rock/metal singer along with Ronnie Dio thanx for the reaction, I enjoyed it a lot

My interpretation is first verse is a memory of being brought up young singing and stuff in church. A bit of nostalgia regarding the good feelings but it was taken for granted and he has either lost his faith or otherwise forgotten his spiritual upbringing. The chorus introduced leaving the earth and loved ones behind ... could be the perspective of Ingo after his death, or simply Kiske growing up and thinking that in his adult life he has taken a different darker path away from the spiritual life. Second verse is his feeling of desire to return to the specifically Christian church. Chorus again, either first person view of dying and going to heaven or returning gloriously to the church. The final verse is again, a plea to god himself to accept him back to the faith, either as Kiske or spirit of ingo, or perhaps both. I feel even the childhood memory could be all point of view of ingo as well, but considering kiske life events since then I feel it is more autobiographical.
