As a former musician and student of music before islam i now, as a muslim, find listening to and reading Qur'an (arabic) is the highest form of music and leaves no place for 'music'. Qur'an is 100% perfect musically, and curing, alhamdulillah.

Instead of following these Mullahs, Shaykhs and Imams blindly 9:31, 2:170; just be connected with Book of Allah Aza wa Jal "Quran" which is made easy 54:40 and is Self-explanatory 25:33, 6:105, 6:114. Does Quran forbid Good music? No. So, Good music is perfectly Halal, and singing Hymn for Allah Azza wa Jal with music is million times better than useless so called Worship. There to any kind of worship in Islam. Word worship is relevant only to Idol worship. Meaning of Ibadat/Ya'boDoon in Quran is not worship. Root of word Ibadat is in ABD and ABEED. Abd means Servant, and Abeed means: Slave. Now tell me: Does a Servant obey orders of his Master or he worships his Master like Hindu Worships Idols? Of course, a true Servant obeys all orders of his Master sincerely and faithfully. So, meaning of Ibadat is obeying Divine laws and Ethical codes which have been finalized in Glorious Quran. When you are obeying all laws and ethical codes of Book of Allah Azza wa Jal; in fact, you are doing Ibada. When you are serving your parents, you are doing Ibada. When you are helping a jobless, you are doing Ibada. When you are giving good education to your kids, you are doing Ibada. When you deal your kids, wife and family members nicely and kindly; you are doing Ibada. In order to support your family when you work, and earn Rizq-Halal; you are doing Ibada. When you refrain from Shirk; you are doing Ibada. When you do not break promise; you are doing Ibada. When you are good with your neighbor; you are doing Ibada. When you refrain from lies 2:42; you are doing Ibada. When you help a relative or a poor person financially; you are doing Ibada. When you are mindful of God, you are doing one of Greatest Ibada. Quranic verse 2:177 has made it clear that your Namaz Rituals prostrating toward Qibla are NOT A GOOD DEED but Good deed is to be Muslim; follow Divine law 6:114, and then live as a Righteous Philanthropist. Quranic Salat has no any relation with those five Zoroastrian Namaz Rituals which were blended in Islam through Forgery of hadith of Flying-Horse Buraq. Neither Prophet nor even four caliphs left behind even one page of extra-Quranic hadiths. Al lhadiths are nothing but mere hocus pocus fairytales

The problem is identifying what is addictive. A person can be addictive to islam till they get to the point of Isis and chopping people's heads off. The same can be said if you listen to too much sad music is can make you really deppressed, which in turned can lead to suicide. I used to listen to a lot of sad music and boy was it depresssing. i do not know if it was a reflection of my state of mind or it was the music. I think its the former. I would not regard listening to music as a waste of time, there are some really good stuff out there. A point must be made, here, a lot of islamic music sounds very exoctic. What do i mean? its the beat, the tempo, its something we do not have in the west, so a simple riq and dumbek with the Dom tek dum tek, is sounds very exoctic, a lot of these beats are in islamic music No islamic scholar it seems has thought about this, to non arabs, arabic music sounds very exoctic and sexual even if its not meant to be. So by some people's definition of music that should be banned lol. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4jZdaGXeK1-rqM kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3fWlYiGedx_kJo

I was once completely immersed in the world of music, and Alhamdulliah I now know how it could entrap you to neglect your worship and remembrance of your Creator. @@ker_at6814 When one listens to music, he hums, shakes his head or fidgets with his feet, to play along with the beats. many people do it unconciously. I've also notices some people, especially males, who drive really fast if there's an upbeat or a "stimulating" song playing in the car. IT gets induced. They feel more confident and energetic to do car stunts. You can also notice this in the type of songs used in gyms, disco clubs or raves. On the other hand of the spectrum is negative emotion inducing songs that are slow, sad and claim to have a "soothing effect". Romance songs are an example. How is audio able to have such an effect on us, mostly without us being concious about it? When we pay close attention to the lyrics, it's worse because it's not calling to anything good, but to bad things mostly. Therefore listening to the Quran is the best choice if we want to listen to something. It is words of our creator and is only meant to guide and benefit us in this world and the next

The average human can observe certain effects of music on the psyche. A decade ago I was diagnosed with a serious illness and I went into a deep state of panic and depression. I became so sensitive to what music does. I used to not filter what l listened to and some of the music I used to consume was too aggressive and dark for my mind and deepened my darkness that was already there. Positive light music did uplift me and I used it as a aid to get me out of my depression. The only problem I had with that is that music fills the psyche with repetition. It lingers on even after you stop listening to it. If you are wanting more silence and stillness which are necessary for spiritual progress then music even if positive can become and impediment. Of course there are other external factors that affect the psyche namely, TV and media content, food, colours, certain topics of conversation, the people you come in contact with regularly. These just like music have a great impact on the psyche.

The disrespect and bigotry in your comment against a highly eclectic, multicultural, multiethnic group of people aside, Muslims do not "dislike" music. One the contrary, some of the world's greatest musicians as well as poetry are still venerated across the Muslim world. Regardless of that, what some non-Muslims like yourself fail to understand, due to lack of any effort mostly, is that Muslims who are not in favor of music hold that position because they prefer to have their soul affected by something more meaningful, something much more profound that has a lasting impact for the better. Not only upon themselves but upon humanity in the long run. Muslims believe our mental faculties, including the ability to be affected by voice and musical notes, is something bestowed upon man for a much greater purpose and to receive a much greater message. If you are honest with yourself, you will find it. Have a listen to a decision of the Quran with pure intentions and an open heart while glancing along the translated meaning of the words. Today’s majority country music discusses adultery and fornication, common aspects of today’s sociopathic lifestyle. Rap extreme music is also misogynistic and filled with hate. It is not the Quran that has many instances of the word, “sword,” “to kill,” “dash children among rocks,” etc. Please do your own research and avoid what narcissistic mass shooters do: generalize large groups of people, then target them only to kill them off, as some people do in those video games of high atheism, the kind that promotes violence on women and Islam.

The harmful frequencies of music overtook my mind for a long period of time, i struggled with letting it go considering i was listening to hundreds of types of music in a one hour setting, i created a chaos of toxic frequencies in my brain and slipped into an ocean deep state of “ghafla” (a state of dangerous neglect of the conscious), the imbalance it created in my brain took me off nature’s balance and i almost felt numb or completely enslaved to a certain feeling(depends on the type of the track i was listening to and the feeling it gave me)the whole body of the track sits in your mind , captivating it and blocking it from any blissful enjoyment of natural sound, and it’s enslaving considering the cheap high levels of dopamine rushes it leaves you with, and once you leave it for a while those dopamine levels will eventually come down below baseline, that’s why you , unconsciously will come back to it for a boost, it basically grows into your brain master, and you its puppet.. I pray for everyone that is struggling with letting it go, please be a friend of god always in times of such struggles and try overcoming them by the fact that you want goodness ,balance and peace for your own soul and for its journey towards the light(god). Try,try, try…even if you fail again and again and again.. just come back to god again, and again, and again and a thousand more times again, god will never get tired of your company, just be with him, remember him with everything "Be, and it is" (كُن فَيَكُونُ kun fa-yakūnu).And reminder that god is always most forgiving and most MERCIFUL of us, his mercy encompasses everything and everyone, trust in that, trust in him getting you out of the dark, trust in his power/capacity (القادر/al-qadir), he wants goodness for you, he wants to move you up to higher spiritual spheres to meet you, cooperate with his way of loving you, you’ll make the best deal of your life.❤️‍🩹

this is my story. I used to listen to various types of music especially english. Loved it. Listens to it almost everyday. Then one day, in 2020 it was almost ramadan, i decided to cut everything. You know, listen to music, check on social media, youtube solely because i want to fast the right way without any wordly distraction. But i put a condition to myself. Maybe i can just listen to music for an hour a day and that is after break the fast. Then i tried. Then afterward, the day after i wanted to to do it, but then i didnt, like i dont want to listen to music today. Maybe i'll listen to the quran, you know for a change. So i did. Then i start doing it everyday. Then i always wanted to listen to the quran all the time all day long. Masyaallah. You know what the coolest thing that happend. Everyday i used to listen to this selawat tafrijiyyah an hour during work. Its a loooong selawat. For a year i cannot remember it for the life of me. But then, when i started to stop listening to music and fasting. I could remember the selawat in a day! Masyaallah. I was stunned. I can neverrr remember it on normal days. Wow. So after that happend, i decided to stop listening to music permanently. I stopped following artists and i dont listen to the music that i used to listen to. Now i only listen to qasidah, selawat amd quranic ayah. Alhamdu lillah. I have become more calmer, im thinking more clearly, i can remember things a bit more easily. Now, if i heard music i will suddenly become uncomfortable. Like please turn it off or slow it down. Like my heart cannot accept it anymore. Alhamdu lillah. I remember a saying by a pious person saying that light cannot sit together with the darkness. And just realized that music is the darkness in my heart. Once you stop yourself from this wordly sounds, then your heart will start accepting the light which are the sounds that is good for the spiritual part in yourself. Masyaallah. Alhamdu lillah for everything. May we all become consistent in reaching the pleasure of Allah swt by doing these little types pf sacrifices.insyaallaah❤🌹

It's all about balance and the priority is Allah(SWT) as long as we avoid the inappropriate and satanic music. We all struggle and I myself am a struggling muslim, music has been a big part of my life because in my childhood, I didn't realize that Salah was more healing than listening to music, so songs and singing became my coping mechanisms. It's something that I'm so used to that it's the hardest thing ever for me to give up. And also I don't listem to inappropriate and satanic music but it's also very hard to avoid it, because somehow they will try to make me hear it, be it through advertisements or movies or any form of cinematic entertainment. So, though I don't think I can completely give up music as a whole as its been a part of my life for the last 19 years or so. But I want to focus on other things, the things to do rather than the things I must avoid. It would be really helpful for me to get the opinion of a knowledgeable person or a scholar but I'm far from capable of getting that kind of help on my own. But I want to keep my focus on Salah, Zakat, Sunnah, Dikhr, and keeping the 6 pillars of Islam in mind. Alhumdulillah there are so many Islamic Scholars online now, that KZbin is helping me learn more about Islam. Subhanallah ✨ Jazakallah Khair for reading this. I know I wrote a lot, but for once I wanted to get this out and find out what good opinions I can find. Thank you. May Allah(SWT) give you happiness here and in the Hereafter ❤ Ameen🤲🏻✨🤍

@Sacred Warrior Islam does not forbid those. Practically speaking, It's the culture that decides it. I'm from Morocco and I know that throughout history in the Maghreb and Andalusia it was usual for scholars to listen to music and even play it. I'm sure this is the case in the Levant as well and places like the Balkans. Many composers of Andalusian classical music and poetry were scholars in Islam as well. It depends on the culture. The scholar in the video is making a point that music - bad or good - has an effect on people. That has been recognised by Muslim scholars and ancient Greek scholars as mentioned in the video. He never said it's haram. Scholars in throughout history actually argued it was halal. The thing is that many Muslims that see music as haram - and you'll repeatedly notice this - associate music with 'vulgar western' music such as rap or pop music where it's all about being 'loose', letting go of morality and committing sins such as unlawful forms of sex or consuming forbidden drugs. They never associate music with (say) classical Andalusian music, which contains harmonious melodies, beautiful poetry and is peaceful to one's heart. Or classical Ottoman music which was used to heal people suffering from depression. Or even just western music like that of Vivaldi or Mozart. No, when they think about music they think about modern day rappers saying some swear words in front of a camera with half naked women shaking their ass behind him/her. You quickly see what influences their train of thought.

Todays music is tuned at 440hz, so the music goes to your head - this means that it is easier to control your mind. The big music industry know about this. Classical music (i.e. Beethoven, Mozart) was tuned at 432hz, this is the frequency of your heart - that's the reason why classical music feels good. Fun fact: the adhan is also tuned at 432hz.

What an evil teaching! It's been proven that children who study musical instruments are better at maths and science than their peers. Einstein was an accomplished violinist who played his violin every day. Also, some of the greatest treatises on music, including al Farabi's Great Book of Music, were written by Muslim scholars, who organised all the Arab music modes according to the ancient Greek modal system which they learned about via translating ancient Greek writings on music. Also, during the Islamic Golden Age, Music Therapy was a normal part of hospital treatment in Muslim countries.

Thankfully I’m a classical pianist, theoretician, and historian. I can say with confidence, that as this sheikh said, “good” and “bad” use of music can change its original quality. Music itself is pure. Nowadays, you hear junks like gang rap, lyrics about sex drugs and others, that are all not considered pure at all. For me, I study and listen to Bach, Chopin, Schubert and many other greats throughout the history. Nothing can be compared to the level of academic intelligence of these greats.

As somebody who was once working on becoming a classical violin soloist and composer, I can understand how difficult and scary it is to imagine a world without music, especially when it is such a big part of your life. But after taking the jump and giving up music completely by the mercy of Allah SWT, I was able to understand how much music took away from my relationship with the Qur’an and Allah SWT. Even if you continue as a classical pianist, I highly advise you to start learning about Islam and Allah SWT, even if it’s just a little bit every day. In my experience, once you learn the wisdom behind the commandments of Allah and the beauty of the Qur’an along with its recitation, everything else, whether it be Debussy, ravel, or Mahler, ect., falls short. I also recommend watching Da’wah videos and learning the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH to understand and build the fundamentals and foundations of the Muslim Identity. I highly recommend checking out One Message Foundation on KZbin for Da’wah videos, and Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda has an amazing Seerah Lecture series on KZbin as well. Additionally, if you like reading instead of watching or listening, I have heard that The Sealed Nectar, and When The Moon Split are two good Seerah books. Anw, I pray that you and your family are doing well in health, wealth, and enabling, and that this advice finds you well. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, places ask. I will make dua for you and your loved ones

I cant help but notice that he takes certain musical phenomenon that aren't inherently bad/destructive(such as music making someone cry, happy, or energetic) and adds his own negative connotation to them in order to make these musical experiences seem demonic/destructive. For example, music making you want to move is considered a beautiful and joyous experience in many cultures, but this sheikh just dismisses it as a feeling "agitated" and makes it seem as if the music is this oppressive, manipulative force that can control peoples minds. It seems to me that in order to justify that idea that music is haram/demonic, some Islamic scholars create their own subjective narrative/interpretation that casts music as a harmful, manipulative force and then pass that same narrative/interpretation off as an objective fact. In reality, I've yet to see an Islamic scholar provide any genuine, logical evidence that can confidently prove that ALL types of music are INHERENTLY bad for human beings.

As a Muslim musician, music is a manifestation of God’s beauty on Earth- created to demonstrate a token of God’s unfathomable beauty. This applies to all art forms. But we cannot blame the art for the impurity within ourselves. Just like the internet, it can be used for good, or for bad, yet no one has ever questioned whether the internet is haram. There is no consensus on whether music is haram or not, and I choose to whole heartedly believe that it is halal aslong as it does not contain profanity or anything the prophet prohibited.

A video I watched of someone made me realize that those notes that makes you weep and cry are the same notes as if a human cries, which why I think we get moved emotionally (music I think kind of extends and amplifies it in a way). When you talk, when you hear a door creak, a water drop… etc, anything that makes a sound is made of notes, right? The answer is in the Qur’an if you’re looking for an asnwer, surat Luqman, ayah 6. It’s any kind of entertaining talk and speech that go astray of God’s way… (it’s better to read the full verse in Arabic, the verse has also without knowledge and taking it as a mockery). We also get emotionally moved when someone that is very good at speaking speaks, which can be dangerous at times. What if the person lacks knowledge and avoids the truth, he/she can attract individuals by their adorned words and the way of speaking. There is another verse on poets in Shuaara’, ayah 221-227, which I’ll leave it at that. Note the exception at the last verse. Please share if you know verses about music because I want to know, and as I recall and know right now, it’s about speech and your motives/intentions.

If the following hadith from al-bukhari 5590 is not a enough of blanket statement that music is haram, I don't know what is 🤯.. the Prophet Mohammed SAW said "There will be among my Ummah people who will regard as permissible adultery, silk, alcohol and musical instruments" 🤷‍♂️

This hadith have so many different versions... And some of these versions don't even mention music and hence some ulema doubted the mention of music in this hadith. And it is one of the reason why Imam shawkani and likes of him wrote whole risala on validity of difference of opinion on the prohibition of music even though he himself didn't considered it halal.

I clearly felt the message. But I have a question lurking around in my mind. Singing accompanied by musical instruments is Haraam. Then how can we fight the demonic "songs with musics/only musics" with only angelic vocal songs on good moral topics as we must avoid playing instruments? Because from my understanding, sound from the musical instruments has a much greater effect on us than just a vocal.

Oh Lord, here we are with the "music instruments are haram" b.s. again... 🙄 How many people will have to answer to Allah for trying to make haram what He made halal, as well as the opposite, since basically everyone today accepts riba as an inevitable part of modern life. If we could only stick to the Qur'an and know our priorities, what a great umma we would be instead of being the laughing stock of the world.

Not really. Ghazali is a huge scholarly giant. Ibn Hazm is a huge scholarly giant. Both rejected the fatwa of tahrim. This is a matter of scholarly difference between giants, and we should respect that and not turn it into an issue where we look down even slightly on those who act on its permissibility. Because looking down at a Muslim believer as if they are not truly believing is haram by the wording of the Quran itself. We should be careful with our statements.

Music is haram, brother Ghazali, is a scholar in certain fields, but has many erros. I would strongly recommend to follow, the 3 best generations....Ghazali was born like 450 after hijrah. I would suggest finding out what the sahaba, tabien, or the tabien students said... the best 3 generations.... As its pretty clear. Find a scholar that uses narrations and follows the methodology of the salaf ( the 3 best generations).. in terms of islam old is best....go to the start....and it will be clear..before ashari mutrdi, or greek philosophy...I would think you would agree the sahaba had a better understanding of the deen than anyone alive now, and that goes for ghazali........

@@mohammedyusuf3888 Ghazali and especially Ibn Hazm were closer to the salaf and had more literary evidence than we do. Also, toleration of music in the time of Salaf in Medina is documented. Al-Shawkani brings the evidence in Nayl al-Awtar. Going back to Ibn Hazm, he specifically says there is no dalala in the Qur'an or in the sahih hadith that music is haram. And there is no evidence of consensus or agreement of the companions. Well, after this, what other source of shari'a is there? So, it shows that the fatwa for the permissibility of music meets the highest form of scholarship. Ibn Hazm was well aware of the evidence from the salaf and he was the most anti-ra'y scholar the history of Islam has ever seen. He was the uber-Zahiri. May God have mercy on him.

@@thescholiast5118 sidi, imam al-Ghazali definitely did not permit usage of instruments *in general*. Rather he considered that some instruments (namely percussions) can be permissible for *some* people in very specific circumstances. His text is very clear in the Ihiya’ on that point, and based on what he said, at least 99% of music nowadays is would be haram. Also one has to keep in mind that the relied upon position of the four schools is prohibition of all instruments like chords and wind instruments (violin, piano, guitar, trumpets and so on)
