I heard a great homily from our Pastor at Mass last night. I really enjoy Fr. Mike's homilies & this one really hits home. I was a cafeteria Catholic for too long. He is right. I am trying to become a devout Catholic & to do that, I have to be "all in" as Fr. Mike says. God Bless you Fr, Mike!

Thank you Fr Mike for your homily today 🙏🏻🕊🙏🏻 The “cafeteria Catholic” seems to be fostered when we hear the Pope, Cardinals, Bishops and Priests expressing “opinions” as if they were Church teachings. ‘Many ways to God’, ‘blessing same sex couples’, canceled priests and religious to name a few cause many to question what a Catholic Christian should believe. Your words clarify, thank you 🙏🏻🕊✝️🕊🙏🏻

Sad but true. Not to mention a Pope who often waters down our faith. This is not by coincidence. See the work of Bella Dodd, a reformed communist from the l930s and 40s, who writes about the purposeful infiltration of our Church by communists and atheists. Also, see the work of Michael Rose, and the purposeful infiltration by homosexuals.

I’m so blessed to Live near the shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama, where Mother Angélica lived and died. The nearby parishes are thriving and growing as well. I’m blessed to be among faithful Catholics- NO PICK AND CHOOSE- OBEDIENT TO HOLY MOTHER CHURCH.

Being "half in" reminds me of Jesus' warning to the Church in Laodicea in the Book of Revelation: "So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.": Thank you Fr. Mike !! Bob in Grand Rapids, MI

That was excellent, Father! Thank you so very much. You know I love the readings for today, but I also love your discussion on the Jubilee year. I’m thinking I will ask my Bible study group to go on a pilgrimage to the diocese of Honolulu‘s Cathedral. That would be amazing.

As Catholics, God has given us many chanches to repair our souls. There are many heavy-duty actions such as fasting , sackcloth and ashes, physical anguish, and others. However, we also are given peaceful methods to atone and receive fotgivenes. Plenary indulgences, Divine Mercy, The Sacraments, all of which are predicated on prayer, which are gifts from God that not everyone can receive. If you are not perfect, take advantage of God's mercy!

I was a Cafeteria Catholic for most of my adult life, but the scary thing is that I was convinced I wasn't. Once my eyes were opened to the enormity of my delusion, though, it was a painful shock! The chasm between what we think we are and what we actually are can be abysmal. The things we will tell ourselves to hide the blunt reality of how far we have strayed... generally by avoiding looking at ourselves, and by focusing on "others", who do this and that, and yet are "good people", so it can't be "that bad" etc. I've always loved C.S. Lewis' story of the visit at the dentist. You go in order for him to treat the one tooth problem you are aware of, and then he breaks it to you that your mouth needs a complete overhaul!! Likewise now I see the magnitude of my "pick-and-choose" problem, and to think I was one to judge others who were guilty of the same attitude! It's always so easy to spot in others the very things we can't bear to see in ourselves... Now I really want the "whole thing", I want to be a Catholic through and through. Thank you , Lord, for enlightening me and always giving me the chance to start all over again. And thank you, Father Mike, for shining the light on those things we would rather not see! You truly care for our spiritual welfare. My God bless you richly.

Thank you for mentioning the Jubilee Year (which started December 26, 2024) where Pope Francis opened the Holy Door at St. Peter's in Rome, very beautifully decorated & then the one at a prison located in Rome on January 6, 2025. I wish this was spoken about during that time, it is a blessing that your parish will be celebrating the Jubilee Year & many blessings to all 🙏

This plenary indulgence term is quite a controversial thing. there are many opinions about it. I tend to believe that big part of our sins are forgiven , not everything. And that we will have to spend less days in purgatory. Another indulgence is on Divine Mercy Sunday. Another thing that confuses me is which are the Holy Days of obligation, because in each country they are slightly different. I agree Father, that its tough to follow Lord Jesus, to walk on the narrow path. Thank you Father and God bless.

Oh Father Mike, I was once so naive. I'm sure there were times I was a "buffet style" Catholic. Mostly do to the lack of education from the pulpit. Once we left a "not so Catholic" parish after 35 years, my eyes were opened wide. Hearing things like, "I don't believe in purgatory.", a Eucharistic Minister going to Holy Mass every other weekend so he could attend services with his fiancee, many not believing in confession, and on and on. I thought my mind was going to blow up so we had to leave for an orthodox parish. We are so happy now! What people don't understand is God will show us our soul on our day of judgement. What will we see?

Is he planning to go Australia? 4 years... is that the planned Eucharistic Congress? America is not so bad - obviously choose where you go, avoid the crime ridden / rap / drug places, all well-known and can be found out. There is an approved Marian apparition - Champion? St Solanus Casey. St Juniper. St Kateri. The incorrupt body of Mother Wilhelmina. Abp Fulton Sheen (may he be canonised soon!).

Here's a problem - the current pope is master baker of the cafeteria. I am tempted to say he is not the pope; but that causes problems like - all the bishops appointed then become invalid, and how do you unwind that mess? So now I think yes, he is a pope, but an unfaithful one. Just as Judas was a real disciple, but chose to betray. So Bergoglio, Roach, Fernandez, Cupich, James Martin - all Judases. Well, Judas won't be lonely; he'll have plenty of neighbours soon.
