I quit smoking a little over a month ago and I feel like I really have it beat this time. I'm making a daily journal of comments on KZbin videos. Since I watch every SciShow video anyway, I won't have to do my usual search for a video relevant to how I'm feeling about quitting smoking. Quitting coffee and mostly caffeine ahead of quitting smoking (I'm down to three tea bags of green tea made as half a gallon of ice tea) was a big part of what I'm determined to make a success of quitting smoking this time around. Every time I had tried to quit before, I held on to drinking coffee for dear life as something I could still enjoy. This time around, I did most of the things I had heard recommended. And keeping away from triggers was one of them. I don't think anyone could savor coffee and a cigarette anymore than I did, but, if they are in contention, they should give up coffee a few weeks before quitting smoking. Another piece of advice that would apply to anyone quitting smoking is to try the nicotine replacement method before you get to your quit date. See how effective they are. I didn't smoke for the nine hours I was on company property at a job I had recently and nicotine lozenges made that totally tolerable for me. In fact it was nice not to be all huddled in the smoking area and just sit in the break room. Especially when the weather wasn't so great.
@brianlanders8028 Жыл бұрын
At least green tea is fairly good for you, coffee is to, in moderation. I quit smoking 11 years ago, I did the patches and the nicotine gum, it was horrible, but I kept at it then I broke my arm and was sitting in my easy chair and lit up a cigarette and the pain in my arm was excruciating, that's when I decided I really need to step it up to quit. It took me approximately two years to quit, but I still enjoy a couple cups of coffee and a glass of tea every now and then. Just don't give up, it's tough, because I really enjoyed smoking, but after I broke my arm, that made me realize how awful smoking is. Good luck. 👍

@@brianlanders8028 I remember an Omni magazine article blurb titled something like "Breaking Smokers Habits and Noses" that detailed how acupuncturists would target nerves in the nose that gave the sensation of having one's nose broken to cessate smoking. Its mostly the alcohol thats the real problem there... I know adderall works for me, and it works wonders; and in my case, i smoked less cannabis when i did have access to adderall (a at the time recently deceased friends old meds) bcuz the adderall does what the cannabis was doin for me, but even moreso Mostly its the executive dysfunction and sensory processing disorder that are handled by those drugs tho. It was rly nice when i had adderall bcuz i didnt smoke to reach a baseline of functioning, but instd i smoked to relax and unwind and actually feel high I hope that i can one day get the meds i need

I’ve always seen a connection between caffeine and nicotine. Often people quitting smoking report feeling “jittery” and I’ve always wondered if it’s the copious amount of caffeine they are still drinking. Would it be easier to cut back on both at once? When I worked in a coffee shop years ago, I once drank every extra espresso shot and by break time, I was feeling really jittery. I bummmed a cigarette off a colleague who smoked and I calmed down very quickly. I wish someone would do a study on the effects of quitting caffeine and nicotine together.

I feel like in the future people would talk about caffeine the way we talk about cigarettes now, like "people just used to drink this stuff daily?! And even give them to kids sometimes?!"

Never going to go anywhere near cancer sticks. This needs to be a PIF in France, a cigarette and a coffee at the café in the morning is a staple

Ive enjoyed this combination for over 10 years, and in 60 seconds it's ruined, never to be done again 😅
