I went without coffee for 2 months during boot camp. The day I graduated I went to a restaurant with my family and had a cup of coffee, and it was truly amazing. Couldn’t stop talking/smiling. Didn’t eat anything, just sat there basking in caffeine’s glory. Very powerful. And I’m very addicted.

I stoped coffee consumption about 25 years ago because of a bad period in my life, I suffered from anxiety and panic attacs. Coffee exacerbated my anxiety and activated a panic attack, so I stopped drinking coffee. The coffee withdrawals consisted of headache 24h/d during 10 days. I woke up with headache and went do bed with headache. During the 10 days I felt ill, but at day 11 I felt good, no headache anymore and stoping caffeine was helpful for me with the anxiety issue. Since then I like to be awake without needing a coffee. I would never have stopped drinking coffee without the anxiety problem.

I quit smoking using the On! Pouches and quit coffee with decaf, then one day a few months ago, I just said fuck it, any amount of caffeine already effects me negatively and the On! Pouches just became gross after a year, I just quit both of those the same weekend. I had smoked for 20 years before the pouches, which really worked well. Reading the ingredients to both cigs and the pouches(way “safer”) are just too disturbing to write off forever. Couldn’t easily find any pouches without the fake sweeteners. So after the day I quit I had 3-4 weeks of intermittent migraine style headaches just from decaf and 2mg pouches. What made me really quit the pouches was that I started getting a few headaches which NEVER get, so I quit everything the next day. Haven’t had a headache in a few weeks, knock on wood cuz that shit was pretty intense at times. Now just eat a crapload of things like cilantro to get the heavy metals out of the body a much as possible even though NOTHING beats old fashion sweating. 😅

How many cups of coffee did you drink before you quit? I ask b/c I drink only 1 cup (black, no sugar), with breakfast. And my energy level is always consistent, provided I get at least 6 hours of sleep per night (though I rarely dream). I often have too much energy (I also exercise daily). I've been a 1-cup coffee drinker for 3 decades now. I doubt quitting will render me even more energetic.
@HeidariReacts4 ай бұрын
@@writerforlifeify I ain't no expert but I think you are fine with drinking 1 a day. I think this applies to people drinking more than 300mg of caffeine a day. I was drinking energy drinks (sugar free) that had 180mg of caffeine, and I usually took 2 of them a day for a pretty long period (atleast 2 months). It was honestly hell, now that I look back at it. My energy was so off. I quit drinking energy drinks since the month of february and I feel much better. Plus, sleeping less than 6 hours a die while doing this is dangerous in the long term. I truly believe that doing what I did over 1 year would surely increase my chances of getting sick. Either way, EVERYTHING in life needs balance. It is OK to drink an energy drink occasionally, for example if you had a bad nights rest but have to hit the gym, or need to be awake that extra time to study/work. But eating or drinking something every single day in a high volume will have a negative impact on your body, no matter what. So just balance it out in my opinion. Something I feel everyone should quit doing is drinking alcohol. Now THAT is a real killer.
@writerforlifeify4 ай бұрын
@@HeidariReacts Thanks for replying. Best to give up so-called energy drinks altogether. My co-worker, now 62, drank those for years. Different brands, including Red Bull. @@writerforlifeify Well, I still stand by my statement that drinking or eating anything in extreme amounts will always be dangerous. So keep a balance and all will be fine. If you are strong enough to quit majority of things that has to do with sugar, then go for it. Otherwise keeping a balance is the best decision, and being careful about the amount you take in your body. Whether that be candy, chocalate, chips, energy drinks, fast food etc it is important to limit that as much as possible. PLUS, sleep and working out is so important. Especially sleep. May God bless your colleague though. It sucks to hear, but the hard truth is that people close to him enabled that horrible routine of his. Happy to hear that the man is alive! Interesting take on caffeine but it's very "bourgy" take on history pre-modern era since like 90% of most slaves and workers and servants were not drinking caffeine to do the labour's, nor is it correct to link caffeine to both the enlightenment in 16th century and mideast science revolution in 12th century. There was however the cafe culture of highest elites and intellects where ideas were exchanged, and some anecdotal evidence of huge coffee drinkers like Newton and Voltaire. Still, there are various other factors impacting the proliferation of ideas and booms of productivity that caffeine plays much minor part compared to other factors than as being suggested. Free speech and freedom of and openness to non-religious/scientific/philosophical/literature/arts/history has more to do with the system and rights and education that encourages and promotes different eras of human thought and discovery, as well as the technological tools available such as optics like telescopes and microscopes. Optics, print press, chemicals, food, different paints and arts, metal working, economics, timekeeping, discovery of elements, imperialism and exploration leading to discoveries etc as well as freedom of intellectualism are much more direct causes than caffeine...

Although, recently I inadvertently had it one morning from a drink I didn't realize had it in and I grabbed it in a quick moment of we have to move, lots of too 55mg, and I had a straight panic/anxiety/couldn't function attack on the highway, and we couldn't stop we had to keep going to get to our destination. Wow, it was quite the trip, one I don't want to repeat. Getting rid of the morning red bull's, coffee's whatever else and just replacing it with hot water satiated my stomach so much more. It also, I believe, helped me to remove alcohol from my life. Once I removed the caffeine, I didn't need the downer in my life to chill out at night from anxiety and stress of the workday. It gave me a clear head, and allowed me to quit my job and focus on starting my own career.

Sunlight generating melatonin is how we're designed to enter restful sleep. Getting away from the cycle of the presence and absence of sunlight is what led to the rise of modern neolithic diseases that allopathy doesn't fix.

@michaelswenson65992 жыл бұрын
@@chickenortheeggphotography caffeine is a stressor just like blue light, that triggers the release of cortisol to prepare to fight, flight or hunt; to meet the day. Melatonin fuels truly restful sleep, but it is countermanded by blue light as it is designed to do at dawn in a proper circadian rhythm. Alcohol was substituting for your lack of melatonin and it was not giving you the restful, regenerative sleep that wellness requires. I'd bet you're still stressing your physiology with blue light at night like everyone else. I hope that was a bit more useful. Don't stop at just removing caffeine and alcohol. Put your eyes and skin in the sun, now that you have more control of your mornings; and keep your eyes and skin dark at night to let melatonin engage to do it's work properly. When I did this, my sleep and wellness changed dramatically and I still drink too much caffeine.
@chickenortheeggphotography2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelswenson6599 Gotcha. Yes, I already do all that. And read before bed, exercise every day. I don't really look at my phone too much before bed. So no, the blue light thing isn't really an issue for me. Ever since changing my lifestyle over the course of a few years things have all but taken care of and cleared themselves up. Alcohol was a familial issue mainly, most everyone in my family history was addicts, except my parents, and it just became a habitual thing because I was hanging out with the wrong crew. I knew i had a problem, but did nothing to fix it. It was a mindset more than a lack of melatonin, trust me when I say that.

I never needed coffee in the morning, but always needed it in the afternoon after lunch. I feel fine from the time I wake up till lunch with no stimulants. But as soon as you start eating (excluding breakfast for some reason it doesn’t have much of a negative affect) - energy crashes and you want to go to sleep and that’s where you need coffee. The solution is to eat one meal a day in the evening after work. When you don’t eat, your energy is always good and stable throughout the day.

Used to drink about 6-8 coffees a day EASLY + at least one big Monster a day… Covid forced me to leave the industry and now I know that without lockdown I would ve been in even deeper💩. Never ever did any sniff what is a plague in hospitality so I can only imagine how destroyed people are after coke abuse FOR WORK, instead of once a week or month. I got GERD due to all that ( basically chronic heart burn/acid reflux ), have to take a Lansoprasole medication every day otherwise it a matter of hours and I might drink nothing eat nothing and I still feel a dragon spitting fire in my throat and chest if I do not take my med. Still not the end of the world, people have much bigger problems and hear much worse news - but really - F caffeine, you don’t need that and when you ACTUALLY NEED IT like I did “because of work” - change the job instead of adjusting habits to it to cope. Quitting coffee made me get my shit together. I had depression, anxiety and insomnia. I’m also diagnosed with ADD, which made me crave for caffeine so bad, cause it gave me the euphoria and focus that my brain is missing due to that condition. Well, but the side effects where that ever so often I had a caffeine down and my brain was worse at focusing, more tired and fatigued. My mood was at the bottom. Then I tried to drink more coffee, but all it did was increase my anxiety and stress level instead of the effect I was craving for. It made me realise that it is in fact like a drug, and like any drug you want to have more and more, but the effect gets lower, especially with a prior condition like in my case add. So, yes i love coffee. I love it when I feel the euphoria and can think, focus and talk better. I feel like finally I’m normal and cured from my condition and be in charge of myself, but it feels much better to embrace yourself the way you are, accept your add and live in a natural way without addiction. To be in balance, have a deep sleep and wake up easily feeling happiness and euphoria right away without having to drink a substance first.

When I was a physical therapist, a client asked me one day what are the reasons for heart palpitations, as all of a sudden she was having them. While I didn’t give medical advice, I asked her how much coffee she drank a day. She said usually 2 but recently she had gone up to 3 cups. When I asked “what day did your palpitations start?” She said ohhhhhhh....... Another one was getting headaches in the morning lately when she woke up, and she said she only drank 2 cups of coffee in the morning. Thinking it might be withdrawal, I suggested drinking the 2nd one around 3 pm, and the headaches stopped. (Of course I urged a doctors visit if the change in habit did not help). I was in the hospital for a hysterectomy and they asked me if I wanted to be part of a trial of a new injection to try to prevent the massive headaches people were getting post surgery “from the anesthesia “. Not being prone to headaches (or coffee drinking) , I said no, and did not have a headache after the procedure. Later I realized that the rule not to eat or drink anything for several hours before an operation was probably causing headache withdrawal in the coffee drinkers, NOT the anesthesia. The “scientists “ didn’t find that out until years later. Where has logic gone.

When I’ve been addicted to anything I’ve always felt that I’m either up or down. If I just consumed the drug, I’m up, and if it’s been hours since, I’m crashed, I feel I need another hit, or sleep.. It’s been two weeks off coffee for me and my energy throughout the day is just at a normal level.. There’s no huge peak in the morning, then crash by noon, then another coffee, then spending my evenings really tired/crashed. My sleeps improved, I just feel normal. I can’t believe I spent like 20 years on caffeine.

I’ve noticed I’m less irritable but the sleep is about the same (not great) and energy during the day is pretty low after 12pm, basically want to do nothing or even lay in bed all day. So idk.. kind of need to get stuff done at work plus just not feel like a vegetable. Although the irritability and impulsiveness from coffee is kind of bad too especially when driving or dealing with annoying people. So no clear cut win or loss unfortunately.

My sleep is better, my productivity is better, my willingness to engage in challenges in life has improved, which has been noticed and rewarded. I only drank about a cup and a half a day but still experience withdrawal for about a week. But after the first month my anxiety was gone, I was sleeping way better, my body had natural energy throughout the day (no dip around 2 o'clock where I felt groggy). I tried a cup recently and didn't have the psychoactive effects he talks about but that might be because I ate chocolate occasionally, which contains caffeine. But the crawling out of my skin feeling and needing to go home thing happened to me too. I felt overwhelmed by ordinary shit. That was deep what he said about his concept of the “self” being caffeinated. If you take that observation to an extreme, we cannot have a concept of self that is “pure” and unaffected by the food we consume and how it makes us feel. Oddly enough, I feel most like “myself” when I’m fasting, and I wonder if that is connected to this idea. I mean, the concept even extends beyond food. My sunglasses prescription makes me feel dizzy and like I’m on some drug. When I wear them, it immediately makes me feel like I’m in an altered reality, and I kind of relax. Probably living in a city with high altitude like Denver might cause a different sort of feeling, too, from the lower oxygen in the air. At least it might until your body adapted. Anyway, what I’m getting at is that the concept of “self” is one that I personally need to rethink and hold with a more open hand. Maybe if it’s impossible to isolate oneself from these external influences on ones sense of self, then the best way to know oneself is to experience as many different places, people, foods, lifestyles, chemicals as possible, and the thing that remains constant throughout those experiences is coming from your pure self.

I think you are always yourself. The concept of "self", and conscious being is dependent on the interaction between influences from the outside and those from the inside. Because if you don't experience things, you don't "be", yourself doesn't exist. And your reaction to that influences, like caffeine for example, change your momentary self, because of the constant interaction. I sometimes like to think of our self, our consciousness not as a think set in our brain, but as like a dynamic existence. I hope everything is understandable, English isn't my first language

Over a year ago, I tried this. I only did a month, but aye that first coffee hit me like a trip. Forward to now, after having many bouts of trynna quit and come back, I found out something new. Spreading my intake out to where I don’t drink it for 2,3, 4 days helps. Tonight I haven’t had a drink in almost 2 days, and I decided to dilute my energy drink into a jug of water, and Fucking aye it has done more for me than any drink alone recently. I’ve encountered those psychedelic caffeine trips many times. It’s more of a hyper aware feeling than anything.

My wife said she was going to quit coffee. I told her to do it gradually. Nope, she goes cold turkey and is miserable for days. She can't figure it out why! I told her that she's an addict. Doesn't go well. She lasted a few days and began drinking tea. We're still married.

This is complete horse manure. This caffeine addict is trying to extol the benefits of a drug that he's dependent on, and basically attributing all of modern development to one cause. Any external food that provides no nourishment but is required for you to function effectively can never be a good thing. The ideal way is to get off caffeine entirely and drink it only for the taste rather than for the hit.

I think it really depends on how much coffee you are used to. First time I quit was when I realized I am going over 3 cups of espresso per day. I quit, stayed off of coffee for a while and then started drinking again, limited ton2 cups per day. Second time I quit was when I had a flu. After the flu suddenly I started getting irregular heart rythms. I noticed they were considerably worse after just one sip of coffee. I went to the doctor, he explained I should simply wait, because the virus left some toxicity in my body which affected my heart. So I just did wait (no meds) and eventually my heart was fine again. But I never forgot how my physical condition was negatively affected by coffee, widely regarded as harmless or even positive. Since then I quit and started over a couple of times. A friend of mine mentioned that every time he doesnt drink coffee for a day or two he get headaches. I realized it's the same for me. My father thought coffee cures his headaches while it's actually going off of coffee which causes them in the first place. Nowadays I drink one espresso in the morning just so I cab have that positive/enthusiastic view of the world which caffeine gives. Although I fully realize it's the absence of caffeine which causes me to feel tired and bleak in the mornings.

>Nowadays I drink one espresso in the morning just so I cab have that positive/enthusiastic view of the world which caffeine gives I think you're doing heroin, not coffee Coffee is just a beverage. It shouldn't affect you that much - unless this "espresso" is a 2 litres one

I grew up without ever ingesting caffeine - until around age 20. No coffee, no tea, no chocolate (I was health concious so didn't partake in chocolate because I thought it was unhealthy). I regret starting caffeine, life was better without it for sure. Once you break the seal it is hard to go back to 100% caffeine free. I used to be able to focus for long periods of time with ease but now I almost NEED the coffee to concentrate properly, or I feel like I get symptoms of ADHD or something.

Same here. I never had caffeine until I was in my late 20’s when I had a Americano from Starbucks. I was hooked. I wish I would have never started.

I personally stop drinking coffee 10 years ago. It was very hard at the beginning, cause I was totally addicted after university. Coffee helped me stay awake at night to study. It is true that it is hard to stay focus at the beginning, but after a while it is the opposite. I feel more focus without coffee and I don’t have ups and downs (more stable and energized).
@jaednhowlar23593 жыл бұрын
yeah his idea that coffee helped focus sounded like copium to me. Im training as a Buddhist monk and there is literally no benefit at all to coffee for anything focus related. I turn into a jabberbox and a keyboard warrior.

Maybe its just me but I went from 4 cups a day to nothing at all for the past 2 months and I dont feel any different at all. Even when I was drinking coffee I wouldnt feel different at all. If I was tired and had a cup of coffee I was still tired. Maybe its because Im used to amphetamines(I was a heavy recreational user for a few years) but caffeine to me literally does nothing except increase my heartrate.

@@hiddenpotentialproject806 I use to drink 3-4 cups of coffee a day. As if now, I stopped for 1 week so far, and I'm less anxious and less irritable. I didn't cold turkey it right away though. Went down to 1 cup of coffee for 2 days, then 1 cup of green tea for another 2 days, and then completely off afterwards. Had a slight headache on day #2 of no caffeine, but it only lasted about 2 hours.
