Something I like about your drumming is every hit seems to have been consciously thought, like every shot is accounted. I mean, it rarely seems like a beat placed to support other musicians or a drum roll just to change a beat. It does seem to support, but your drumming is a real part of the melody. Good job!

My first concert ever was Live, circa late 1995. I was 12, already a huge fan. Throwing Copper was my first CD. This was their final song and I can still vividly remember how freakin’ insane the crowd got; there’s so much kinetic energy to this song. I also remember having a hard time being able to see, and then the guy next to my mom and I just picked me up and held me at his level. Much respect to him. Definitely a Top 5 memory for me.

Thank you so much for doing this video and for the channel in general. I have been looking for over a decade to find a good video of exactly how you play this song. There have been a lot of good “sounding” drum covers over the years but I haven’t come across someone who plays it the way you do and that has what I’ve always been interested in! What you play and how you play the chorus, well really all the parts aside from the verses is just epic. It is so impressive to see you coordinate all the notes the way you play it. It looks exhausting 😊 and it is an amazing visual display of your talent. Keep the videos coming and again thanks for fulfilling a wish of mine for many years! I know it is a good amount of work to take the videos and do all of the editing, etc. so your effort is greatly appreciated.

I was 13 when I saw Live in 1995 at the Polaris Amphitheater in Dayton, Ohio. First concert ever. One of my fondest memories of that concert was when a man standing close to my mom and I could tell I was having trouble seeing the stage (short kid, hadn’t hit puberty yet). He raised me up and put me on his shoulders for a few songs. White, Discussion was their encore performance, and it was incredible. I started drum lessons shortly after, and it’s specifically because of Chad Gracey.

I have a concept of drum music but I can’t read it. So no I don’t write it out. It’s all completely from memory. Great question!!

technical question....I think that from TDTH or V era, like in the video from the BOP DVD, you started to omit the second snare hit at the beginning of the going crazy riff. Was it intentional because it was technically difficult to place it all the time? Was it a choice because you think it sounded better this way? By the way it's very nice from you to offer this. Great work.

I forgot to ask in my comment - something I've always wondered about you... I assume that's a floor tom to the left of your snare - quite unusual. Can you tell us how you came to put it there and why?

I adopted that from Larry Mullen Jr. I dont use it much but it gives some cool fills when I do. Plus I use it extensively on songs like Hold Me Up.

Hmmm well since I am the drummer on this song I made videos playing the drums to the song. I am far from implying that the drums "stand out". I am simply recreating what I did with a visual for people that are interested in watching....You know the old saying "if you dont have something nice to say, then dont say anything at all"......I fear this sentiment is lost in the world of the internet today. What is supposed to stand out then? Drummers are not supposed to typically "stand out" in a song. That is not their job as a drummer. They are the backbone, not the face. Provide the glue and binding agent to the song, which Chad does here.
